Element Fire Extinguishers

Here’s a good business opportunity if you’re looking for one, get the distribution rights for Element fire extinguishers! I first heard about these fire extinguishers on one of the Lotus car forums since guys there are always looking to try and save weight. But then Jay Leno had the Element guys on his YouTube show Jay Leno’s Garage and after watching it, I ended up buying two for myself. I would have actually bought more so I could give them to my friends but I wanted to see if PostaPlus would ship them first.

What makes these fire extinguishers so special is mainly the size and weight, they’re extremely small and lightweight and yet in most cases perform much better than the larger old-fashioned fire extinguishers that use compressed air canisters. Not only that but the Element is also non-toxic and doesn’t create a white mess. Since I’m pretty limited with space in my Lotus, I decided to get the Element so I can just velcro it under my dashboard.

The model I got from Element costs around KD20 and lasts for around 50 seconds. In comparison, an old-fashioned fire extinguisher (similar to the one you probably have in your car) costs approximately KD7, lasts around 15 seconds and is much larger and heavier than the Element.

Even though I managed to get my Element fire extinguishers shipped by PostaPlus, it did take around two months time. That mostly had to do with them researching the product and making sure it was safe to ship and wasn’t hazardous since they had never shipped them before. Theoretically, the next time anybody orders the Element they shouldn’t have to go through this long process, but I also don’t want to risk it. I still need to get a couple of more Elements so I can keep at home, so someone please get the distribution rights, I really think these would sell like hotcakes in Kuwait!

Kill me softly with that mini VHS tape.
So now it is KD20 online which is reasonable, with Kuwait reseller it will be double or triple times or maybe more! nah I would kiss my ugly old-fashioned fire extinguisher on her mouth or order this thing from online rather than buy it from local distributor or reseller.

That’s a Betamax tape 😁 but regarding your pricing comment, there are loads of brands that sell in kuwait for the same price as online. Just last week I posted about Swell bottles being sold for the same price as amazon

Yeah Betamax is the trade name, this product’s story was a tough lesson for Sony as well as Walkman.

Back to the topic, you may know better than me since you are a car guy, but what I noticed is that most of auto parts are super overpriced from dealerships and distributor.

By the way, just in case you or anybody interested in hybrid instant cameras, Instax SQUARE SQ20 will be released pretty soon October 20th.

Yeah but if u get the distribution rights you’re gonna get them at a wholesale price probably around 10-12KD and you’ll ship them by freight which would probably add 250fils per order Element. Factor in 5% import tax and you’ll be able to sell them for 25 and have a good margin

Kuwait has what about 600k kuwaitis?
half of which are too old or too young ? for this product to make sence.

so you are really marketing to the younger guys and not girls so we’re talking about 100k people?

less then half of them are interested in a fire extinguisher, and half of that would consider this product?
so 25 k possible customers?
if we said that every single one of them will buy one of this item, and only 10 percent will buy another due to use or fun, so we have about 27500 possible sales?

so a profit of 5 KD a piece seems reasonable if you take away all the material costs and shipping, and overhead, so a total POSSIBLE profit for the lifetime of being a distributor is only about 137k?

then you have to factor in other expenses that were not included in the overhead and costs such as marketing, and returns/defective items.

and this is probably spread out for the lifetime of this dealership which is about a 10 year goal so you’re making 13k a year which is about 1100kd a month?

Nah il just work my Kuwaiti government job where I drink tea, yell at the tea boy, and read a newspaper, and continue to fiddle with my qutra because the Muhajiba next door is not married yet and I am not either. And If I smoke and play with my qutra then I am considered a very manly man.
plus The louder I yell at the tea boy, the more social the people think I am.

So no I personally will not be investing in this as an opportunity.

Kuwait’s population is 4.5 million according to PACI. 1.6 million are Kuwaiti but not sure why you’re factoring in only Kuwaitis as needing fire extinguishers.

From the 4.5 mil population, 3.4 mil are over the age of 19 and are eligible to drive. Not everyone has a license or drives though. So lets look at another number.

There are currently over 1.9 million cars on the roads today, lets say from those, 500,000 are potential customers. That’s a huge number.

Say you purchase the fire extinguishers for KD12, add 2kd for shipping and tax cuz obviously you’re not using Aramex you’re getting them by freight. That’s KD14 cost landed, say 15, and you sell for 25. That’s KD10 profit per unit. KD10 multiplied by say 250,000 buyers and that’s a cool KD2.5 mil. Not too shabby. Keep in mind this is just targetting the automotive sector, you haven’t targetted home owners or businesses. So, in reality, every car owner, homeowner and business owner is a potential customer. Add to that the fact these can only be used once and also expire, so you’ll have a lot of repeat customers as well. Not too shabby.

This is fire extinguisher for cars (maybe it is useful for kitchens) so the calculations should be based on the amount of cars on roads (individuals and commercials) not population. Moreover, based the law, every car should equipped with fire extinguisher. So you have potential customers .. the car dealers! Each new car should come with fire extinguisher. Another factor..how many new car being sold every month?

I believe this is the proper way to think about it.
