New point to point cameras going live February 1st

speedtrapsactive

The new point to point cameras that are installed on Highway 40 on the road to Saudi Arabia and the chalets (pictured below) are going to be activated on February 1st. The cameras are located in a number of different locations along the long stretch of highway and work by calculating your average speed from one camera to the other. If your average speed is higher than the speed limit you will get issued a ticket and there’s no way to escape these cameras.

Drive 200 km/h for half the stretch, pull over, whip out the newspaper for 30 minutes, continue at 200. Problem solved? 🙂

It’s easy to beat this system. On the first run activate your trip meter to find out the actual distance in KM between these cam’s.

If it’s 8KM between cam’s , drive anywhere between 120-160 for the first 4 Km. Then the remaining 4 Km turn on your cruise at 100. Your average will be within 120 !

What a waste of money by the traffic department.

Yeah might be “easy” to beat the system but if you can cruise at 100km for 4km then you might as well cruise at 120km for 8KM. It’s definitely not a waste of money by the traffic department, if anything it would be a waste of time to try and “beat this system”.

Do you understand what averaging means? No matter what you do, you will have to take the same amount of time between cameras. So if you go over the speed limit, you will also have to go under the speed limit to “cancel it out”. So, unless you just enjoy going 160 and then 100, it is pointless.

Is this for Experts only or Kuwaiti as well.
Again time meter should be differ from lane to lane.
However, every action has opposite reaction

Speeding vehicles can KILL.

It would be of benefit to all road users if average speed cameras were installed on all of the major roads in Kuwait; especioally in the safety lanes :). But seriously; simply abide by the rules of the road or be hit in your pocket!

Are there any speed cameras on the 4th Ring Road?

I only see one towards the King Fahad motorway end and it’s pointing east – like towards Salmiya. But then there are two smaller units either side of it pointing in both directions. Any ideas what that’s about?

Regarding one speed camera with two small things from each side, those two camera shaped things are external flash light in order for the images to be clear when they are taken for an over speeding car!!! And maybe those new p2p cameras will help in traffic calming and people would learn how to drive a bit slower and save their lives and the lives of others uusing the streets

it easy actually very easy to beat this system. notice that there is one camera for each lane. so when passing the cameras take the emergency lane….. problem solved.

If you are driving fast because you’re in a hurry of some sort (time appointment), then obviously slowing down wasn’t in question in the first place. If after passing the first point you realized you did 150 km/h and you slow down, then the camera achieved its objective.
