A week ago Z District reviewed the Seagate Portable HD and although I am a Seagate fan I thought the hard drive looked ugly and fragile. This is why I decided to put up a review of the drive that competes directly with the Seagate one, the Western Digital Passport.
I ordered the 120GB Western Digital Passport drive so I could use it to back my MP3s and personal work. I already have an external drive but I needed something much smaller and portable. Since I was going to use it for my most important data, the drive had to be reliable and durable. Thats why I went with the Passport drive, I have never had any problems with Western Digital hard drives and from the pictures the Passport drive looked like it could take a beating. Now that I have it sitting in front of me I can tell you that it can.
The Passport drive case is made from 2 materials, half of it is alluminum and the other half is rubber. The drive feels like its indestructable but still looks really slick and extremely cool. The other positive thing is you only need 1 USB slot to both power and run the drive unlike the Seagate which requires 2 USB slots.
I really am in love with the drive and can’t find a single flaw except for the fact that 120GB is the largest size available. I give it a 4.5 out of 5.

FIIIIIIIIIIIGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHT
FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT
hahahaha fractal!
Bas logically speaking if it has two USB ports one for power and one for data transmission which should be faster than one USB cable used for both power and data transmission.
nono.. the Seagate has one for both power and data transfer!
The other one is for more power just in case. .but you dont have to use it!
Hmmmm then the one cable/two cable comparison is irrelevant anymore.
*sighs* i can’t get any of those two .. Mark is telling me that shipping, taxes and customs will add to the price of the external HD so i am better off buying it form here .. i went and saw the WD Passport 40GB but it simply isn’t enough for me, i neeeeeeeeed more space. They don’t have the 120 GB version and they don’t do special orders :S
I didnt get charged anything expcept the shipping charge for my stuff! So I think you should get the Seagate! LOL!
My brother owns one. The casing stopped working for some reason. He removed it and installed those cheap casings from hawalli and it was spinning again yipeee
fractal shipping the passport is cheap. but you dont need a passport, you dont need something portable. for the same price as the passport you can get a 320gb external western digital, for cheaper even.
I’ve got it too.
Mark, whats the status of ur passport drive. Still working well? I ordered a 160gm off amazon and it failed almost instantly.. š
yeah still working. also ordered another one.
how did yours fail? you sure there is enough power from the USB socket to power it? try it on another computer.
