KDD Drive-Thru

kdd

I love these KDD guys that park on the side of roads. They help make our extremely hot summers slightly more bearable.

God bless them in this heat… I was next to this one yesterday on the gulf road
Ain’t that dangerous on the road specially if there is a queue of cars that takes a lane ?

Inhumane to make them work on the street in summer even with an umbrella. It also it is a major traffic hazard, as most are on the main roads and not at a lay by . These are fast roads with cars. The correct way to give such access is to have a self serve freezer at a petrol station convenience store,,, However, it appears that petrol stations are not permitted to have these ! Why ? well….

Self Employed in some way, they work as they wish and on whatever times, a big van drops them to the area they want then takes them back when they want to.

Life is hard, in sha Allah they get better income so they do not have to work in such heat or get better portable housing on that van with mini fans installed.

They are also a hazard when they are stationed in places like roundabouts or bus stops like the picture above, and when they use the main streets to move around.

I personally they should be banned from selling goods on the side of the road. It is a traffic hazard endangering the seller and motorists alike.

Do they have any license or authorization to sell on the roads? can any one just bring a “basta” and sell goods on the road?

come on people. whats up with the moaning?? everyone love these KDD guys we grew up seeing them. we dont want them to be banned that is just cruel. they are making a living out it, sitting in the sun for hours just to kill your thirst.

You gotta appreciate that work ethic being out there in this heat. Does their revenue drastically drop during Ramadan?

traffic hazard???
the only people who are doing the traffic are those idiots on the motor-bikes trying to cherps the girls

Yes, lunatic drivers that realize too late that they want an ice cream, will cross 4 lanes in a very dangerous manner only to get to the ice cream vendor. Also cars that block a full lane just to stop for a stupid ice cream.

I just feel sorry for these guys, sometimes at night I see them biking the whole thing to there house, working conditions = 0, but things may be worse at there home country
may god be with them

A family member who works in Sho’oon told me that they work during summer only, and get a salary in winter when they aren’t selling. I’ve also seen a lot of these icecream boxes parked near Amiri hospital, so it’s possible they get hired through a company to work for KDD.

I do think having in vans would save them a lot of hurt and pain, but think about it, how much freedom of maneuvering do you have with a van?

When I was at school, leaving at the end of the day and getting into the icecream wars, trying to buy your favorite before it ran out, was one of the things I looked forward to. They’re nice and kind people, if you buy often enough, they even remember your preference. 🙂

I have this guy whom i buy from everyday after work (on road 2115, mangaf), i make sure to buy water and sometimes ice cream (KDD Sandwich x2).. the reason is that these guys stand in the sun whole day long so you get water or an ice cream in the convenience of your car’s air conditioner, i also make sure to pay him more than what he charges, just trying to repay for his service in the hot weather and i would request you all to do the same, we can pay between .400 to 1.000 KWD for a bottle of water in a fancy restaurant, but we want to complain when it comes to paying this guy even 50 or 100 fils more than the usual cost (which they don’t even charge).

All the guys out there complaining that they are a hazard, the best thing is you go and speak to them nicely and advise them to change their location slightly to make it easier for everyone, instead of cursing them!

Never said it was the ice cream vendors fault as they are likely designated a location! It is the wreckless drivers that are at fault!
