Kuwait the Worlds 3rd Fattest Country

A new world fattest countries list was released and Kuwait surprisingly came in third:

#1. Samoa
#2. Qatar
#3. Kuwait
#4. United Arab Emirates
#5. Fiji
#6. Bahamas
#7. Bahrain
#8. Saudi Arabia
#9. United States
#10. Libyan Arab Jamahiriya
#11. Lebanon
#12. Barbados
#13. Trinidad and Tobago
#14. Oman
#15. Jordan
#16. Turkey
#17. New Zealand
#18. Egypt
#19. Australia
#20. United Kingdom
#21. Mexico
#22. Canada
#23. Papua New Guinea
#24. Chile
#25. Solomon Islands

When these lists started popping up nearly a decade ago I couldn’t agree with them more, but today they just no longer make any sense. There is no way on earth Kuwait is currently the third fattest country in the world. Just no way. I can’t remember the last time I saw an obese person and the population is so much more health conscious than they’ve ever been.

When I first posted a similar list back in 2007 we were ranked 8th. Kuwait didn’t have as many gyms back then, the organic food craze hadn’t hit yet, we didn’t have a lot of healthy food options and people as a whole (including me) were not properly educated on whats healthy and whats not. Our ranking made sense back then. So there is no way we’ve moved up the list and are now currently ranked 3rd, not unless they’re using old data which is the most likely scenario. [Link]

Well Im not too surprised, was expecting top ten but not third.

The population is definitely more health conscious… but being health conscious does not necessarily make you more healthy.

Very good news that your not seeing any obese people Mark! Your surrounding yourself with healthy people, thus boosting your own health.

3rd is surprising. But definitely expected top-10. The number of obese people has remained pretty much the same in the 5 years I wasn’t here.
I’m calling it as I see it. Please don’t bite. πŸ˜›

That’s right, there are gyms there is all organic food. but we don’t get healthy only by having a gym membership we need to make use of it. however when they rank countries do they calculate on overall population or just the nationals.

Dummy, its based on size of population. Small country in portion to the number of fat people.
Plus what a bizarre statement ‘I can’t remember the last time I saw an obese person’ you should get out more!

The fat people stay away from Avenues because they get put off with all the muscle-toting dudes cruising there, hence the impression that Kuwait is not obese.

I’m pretty sure there’s no like, 100% accurate measure of fattest country so the exact ranking (#8 > #3) isn’t really an exact measure. Still a fat country but I think it takes much more data to see if you’re really higher or lower from year to year. It seems like their rates are totally unsourced so like you said probably just using the last number they found.

Contrary to popular belief, obesity is not solely based
on appearance; there is more to obesity than meets the eye. There are many people who physically appear slender and thin but are actually clinically considered obese due
to the percentage of body fat they have. It’s a false impression to give to the reader about Kuwait’s population not being obese when you are mentioning you have not “seen” an obese person here in ages. While that may be the case that you haven’t physically “seen” obese people, it doesn’t mean they aren’t obese because their body fat could be very high.

Think of it this way, even if you don’t see the obese people the few morbidly obese people can skew the curve towards the general population being obese. Also, you have to take into consideration that this study takes into account anyone who is >30 in BMI. These people don’t “look” obese but they surely are. Kuwait has a spectrum of Healthy individuals with muscles inside their muscles all the way to super obese individuals.

It is unfortunate that more than 10 out of top 20 fattiest countries are from Middle East. When you spend all day eating junk food, watching TV and smoking Narjeela what can get?

just saying…. if there was a way to find out which particular area in Kuwait is the fattest…u think Salmiya would be #1 since the food court is open 24/7 πŸ˜‰ (krispy kreme and KFC 24/7)….
