First Impression: The Meat Company

Tonight was the soft launch for The Meat Company so I decided to pass by with Nat and have dinner there. Like Wagamama, I hadn’t been to any other Meat Company before so I didn’t come in with any expectations. The interior of the place is very well done, the lighting, the carpet, the wooden walls all help give the place a very warm and cozy feeling. The staff all seemed to be from South Africa and very friendly. Our waiter was previously based in Dubai and he’s now going to be living and working in Kuwait along with a few other waiters who also moved to here from Dubai.

For starters I ordered the salt & pepper calamari while for my main course I ordered the 300 grams Australian fillet, pepper crusted and medium rare with a side order of mashed potatoes. Nataly ordered the petit fillet which is 200 grams but she ordered hers well done with a side order of salad but also pepper crusted. The calamari was ok but I wouldn’t order it again. The steak on the other hand was probably one of the best steaks I’ve ever had. It was cooked perfectly and the meat was so soft and tender it was just melting effortlessly while I was chewing it. Even Nat’s well done fillet was extremely soft, I was actually surprised since most well done steaks I’ve had end up being dry and tough. I really loved the steak which has put me in a strange position because when I was first checked the menu I spotted some burgers and decided that I would try one on my next visit. Now I don’t think I will because it would be a shame not to have the fillet again.

Price wise the petit fillet for example costs around KD10.5 and comes with a side order. The calamari was KD3 something. Oh I also tried their home made wine (alcohol free). It comes in a nice wine glass and it looks a lot like wine but sadly doesn’t taste like wine. On the bright side I didn’t drive back home drunk.

I really liked the place and would try to make it there once a month at least. The Meat Company is located in the 360 Mall, first floor opposite Coffee Republic.

“Tonight was the soft launch for The Meat Company so I decided to pass by with Nat and have dinner there. Like Wagamama, I hadn’t been to any other Meat Company before so I didn’t come in with any exceptions”

expectations.. you didnt come in with any expectations.

Since most people in Kuwait like their steaks well done, its comforting to know that it still retained its juices ! I need to try it if I’m around the neighborhood. How was their sides selection ?

Here is what I remember: rice, fries, baked potato, mashed potato, steamed vegetables, sauteed mushrooms and salad.

I should have also mentioned Nat had creamy mushroom sauce with her fillet and she loved it.

I can vouch for the steak there….If you think the meat co in Kuwait was the best steak u’ve ever had… then u’ve never had good steak before Mark.

T: Thats what I realized last night. If I new steak could be this good I would have been a steak person instead of a burger person long time ago lol

Was at the Dubai location yesterday,

Prices are a bit cheaper in Kuwait it seems, Calamari was 45 dirhams,

200 grams fillet was around 135 dirhams –

anyway, very nice steak –

the only difference between our experience Mark is, I took a taxi back home tipsy 🙂

i’ll not dine in meat co bcoz it’s over priced for its steaks!!!

i am a steak person and i’ve tried most of the steak houses in kuwait!!
my favorite one now is the butcher shop in avenues!! i only tried it 2 weeks ago. it received many bad reviews but when i tried it i’m cursing all the ppl who made me not to go there.. it is the best streak house in kuwait “imo” .. even when the fillet was cold, it was still soft!

if u start liking steaks,, go to the stone grill in Omnia mall and get the fillet,, a 4.5 star taste but the best dining experience i ever had,, but ur cloth will smell after it!!

I treid Butcher Shop twice, one for their burger and once for their steak. Both times I was very disappointed and now I don’t go back.

Stone Grill I got two different views from two different people. One said it was terrible, the other said it was great. Haven’t tried it myself since I am not a fan of places that want me to cook my own food.

Well-done steaks are a crime against meat!

I went late last night after a movie… I recognized Desmond from Gaucho Grill, and also Ahmad who used to run Le Notre’s catered events, he’s now the manager at Meat Co.

Because it was late, around 11, I didnt want to over indulge so we just ordered a plate of appetizers and they were all good, except the calamari which was kinda dull… I hate when menus don’t mention that the calamari is fried and breaded, cos then I wouldn’t order it. I like it grilled, drizzled with olive oil and lemon

I’ll try the steaks next time

Hey Zaydoun, the menu actually does mention that the calamari would be “shallow fried”. That’s why I ordered it over the prawns entree. The menu said the prawns was fried and the calamari was shallow fried so figured it would be healthier but it turned out to be just like fried…

The Butcher Shop has the best steak in my opinion. but you need to order the right, Tenderloin, steak!…. didn’t try the Meat Co in Kuwait yet, but I tried it in S. Africa and in Dubai.. both were very good but not as good as the Butcher Shop.
The Butcher shop in Dubai’s Mall of the Emirates has the Wagyu steak which we don’t have in Kuwait.

You should really try Le Relais D Le Entrecote in the Avenues phase II, they only serve steak with a special sauce and french fries with a salad and bread.
It is definitely the best steak I’ve had in Kuwait and I love mine bloody!!!

Do too have wagyu steak in Kuwait. Meli Melo in Shaab 22661520. They are the only distributors for JAPANESE wagyu steak. Sultan has wagyu, but not from Japan.

I didn’t like the Butcher Shop at ALL. Bad experience. Sick all night.

Zaydoun – I agree with your, “Well-done steaks are a crime against meat!” Yuck – its like eating leather. Why would you want to do that???

Gaucho is still my favorite for steak in Kuwait – unless you want to cook at home. If that’s the case my friends, try Pinar in Shuwaikh 24836713 (Al Shabrah Road – not too far from London Center at the circle). Brazilian, Argentinian steaks – cut to your request. AWESOME

The Meat Company had Wagyu steak under special cuts, they also had something called Australian Gold which was double the price of the regular cuts.

i dont see how you can eat this for your dinner or lunch :S
the food they serve is pathetically small and its costly……
fine the quality might be really good but how can u fill ur stomachs on this??
btw steak looks really gud…but too small 😛

Nice write up. But I think that 10+ KD is too dear for a steak – unless I can expense it. Have been buying my meat from Dean and Deluca, and get a great, well-marbled 250 – 300 gr ribeye (not Wagyu) for less than 3 KD. Cooking steak is too easy to (over)pay someone to do it for you.

That being said, it’s always good to know of a great steak place to entertain out-of-town business colleagues who you don’t want at your home. Seeing comments of plenty of other places. Has anyone tried the Rib Eye Steak House at the Holiday Inn? I ate at the Chinese place there, which was gruesome.

the meat is THAT good because they use -CHILLED MEAT- which is fresh meat kept at specific temp. without being frozen EVER

would you buy it if it was sold to in the market?

Mark – stone grill is utterly disgusting. The meat itself is ok, but no marination, and the novelty of cooking ur own meat and shrimp wears out in about 5 min and then its just stinky smoke sticking to ur clothes,

Desert Girl – thanks for the tip! I could use a big fat argentinian steak right about now.

All those places everyone mentioned above r OK not great. What differentiates Meat company from others is the quality of meat offered by them. Yes they might be a bit pricey, but its one hell of a steak! No restaurant in Kuwait serves you that type of meat (its all about the meat and not the grilling side of it). All their meats are chilled aged meat. Chilled aged meat is a million times better and tastier than frozen meat (all meat lovers should know this). The meat is stored at a specific temperature for a period of time. As a result of this aging process, its tenderizes the meat and gives it more flavor. Frozen meat is garbage in comparison. Once people understand the difference and actually taste chilled meat, they will come to appreciate it.

I heard of a place that’s opening up soon and their specialty is chilled meat. Its not a steak house. Its a retail store that will be selling high end gourmet products.

@M do you work for the Meat Co ? If you were not like 110% biased I would have beleived you ! Give credibility to real customers plz !

Smoker – No i don’t work for meat co.

How am i being biased?

Name me one steak house in Kuwait that serves CHILLED meat? Other than butcher shop (which is crap).

Remember one thing, not everyone share the same standards.

At the end of the day, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

my first experience was on Eid al futer in Dubai. It was lunch and I didn’t like their rib-eye steak! maybe because of the very high expectation!?

the price was so expansive comparing with the foods taste and the quantity. I wasn’t so happy neither my family!

I hope the one we have here is better, just like other rest I have tried in US which weren’t so good comparing with ones we have here! strange right? 🙂

I strongly agree with “M” the meat quality worth the price! a 120 day grain-fed ! it was cooked to perfection.. I am a steak lover and never had a fresh, tender, and soft steak like the one in Meat Co before! even their burger was YummY! I would also recommend their “petit fillet” 😉

The Meat company is not bad.

But, if you eat steak only well-done, better save your money and cook your own. Do not go beyond medium

– Best steak in Kuwait for the money is Butcher
grill try medium-rare Fillet (/w Monkey gland
sauce with sweet potato).

Meat co steak is good but the best steak I ever had is at the Centrepoint. Try it with their pepper mushroom sauce, it is yummy. Also it is economical, so you can afford to go regularly for it. I always have their steak over a caesar salad.
