Someone tagged me on this short video the other day that shows parts of the ice skating rink arcade area during the early 90s. If you used to hang out at the ice skating rink back then like I did, then you’ll appreciate this.

Those were the days my friend!
Those good days without all this shitty technology (I love tech but….) We used to be at a happier times with kids interacting with each other, I loved to be a kid from the 90’s . Now all I see is babies with mobiles/tablets in compensation for their parents shitty parenting attitudes.
I wish we could go back! Thanks for all the nostalgia!

back to topic: the fries (drooooooools~)
I don’t think thats true though, I socialize now more as much if not more than I did in the 90s. We’re all constantly socializing, you stop at a traffic light and you pick up your phone and message a friend. You’re bored at home? you pick up the phone and whatsapp a bunch of people to see what they’re up to.
Back in the 80s and 90s, if you were bored at home you’d call you friend to find his line busy. You’d keep trying for the next hour but its still busy because his sister is hogging the line talking to her friend. Finally the line frees up and the mum picks up and tells you that your friend left the house 2 hours ago and she doesn’t know where he went.
Or you come back home and you find your friend left you a message on your answering machine telling you to call them back because they’re heading to a cool party. You call them back but they’re not home.
Then things got worse in the mid 90s with dial up internet occupying the phone lines. You call for 2 hours and the line is busy so you’d make the awkward phone call to your friends dads mobile phone hoping u don’t wake him up so you could ask him nicely if he could tell your friend to get off the internet and call you back.
That basically summed up pre-internet days for me.
I don’t agree. Texting someone is NOT equal to socalizing.
In the 90’s days I did make friends online but also I had friends knock on my door and come to visit me and have fun.
I met my friends at school etc. which was also very nice!
I find whatsapp makes people lazy to actually make the effort to come visit you, they prefer to text you and feel they have done the deed of their friendship. Anyway I got rid of all my social media and whatsapp and don’t have a phone anymore. I don’t live in Kuwait anymore but I live in the UAE where we have a lot of payphones so I carry a phone book in my wallet if I need to contact someone or else I use email at work!
It’s a blessing.
Chatting with someone on whatsapp is still socializing… and because you’ve got instant access to so many people via whatsapp it makes meeting up and going out so much easier. Try getting in touch with 6 friends and arranging a dinner pre-internet days. It’s impossible.
It’s about the quality of those friends. Maybe you’re blessed with many good friends haha. But the thing is, you can’t compare texting people to actually having a real life interacting…
What is really sad when you go out with a group of people thinking you’ll catch up and all, but all you see is that they are busy with their phones texting people who aren’t at the table!
Sure.. technology have its advantages but their disadvantages are the ones taking us down.
I suggest you watch a youtube video tittled “The Millennial Question” by Simon Sinek, and as much as I agree with him, it’s somewhat applicable to even older people (pre-1994, as he suggests)

That’s a young Bassam Al Othman reporting! lol I still remember the ice rink back in those days, also the arcade in White tower in Salmiya was bangin’, i wonder if there is still an arcade in White tower since I haven’t been in like 10 years!
