Help the Elephants at the Kuwait Zoo

If you want to help the elephants at the Kuwait Zoo you now can by purchasing the tshirt above. For those of you who don’t read Arabic the tshirt basically says “Love Malek and Dalal” who are the two elephants currently at the Kuwait Zoo. All proceeds from the tshirt sale will go towards the renovation of the elephant cage at the zoo by enriching it. The tshirts are for just KD10 and you can order them by sending an email to [email protected]

To know why the elephants need help, read my previous post [Here]

You’d think we are in some cash strapped poor country or something. Why isn’t the government spending on anything?

And yet in countries with even more cash than Kuwait people actually support their community from hospitals, parks, zoos .. etc ..

a look at Sabah Hospital Area should let you realise that most of the specialised hospitals are donations from people and not government.

Not sure how the mechanism of donation goes for parks and zoos since they are under the Agriculture and Fishing Authority.

Suggestion: Many companies pay “tax” or zakat to the government. the money usually goes to KFAS. How much does KFAS really need? What can be done is probably a 5 year round. For 5 years x number of companies pay their dues to KFAS, and x number of companies help develop and maintain public facilities through that tax and zakat money. and keep on alternating.

@Kuzbara… Dude, you are confused and mixing up lots of things together. I’m not in a mood to enlighten you at the moment. But I can direct you to Google.

In Kuwait there are no personal income taxes, property, gift or inheritance taxes. Nor are there any sales or value added taxes. The only tax paid by Kuwaiti shareholding companies is a 2.5% levy for the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences (KFAS).
Kuwaiti Manpower Law which was introduced in May 2001 applies a 2.5% tax on the net profits of Kuwaiti companies listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange (KSE). This tax may be imposed on all local companies in the near future.

But corporate income tax is levied on the net income of foreign firms.

This is as per your suggestion form google from embassyofkuwait.ca

I hope this clears your confusion?

In other countries “wealth” is generated by the people, who contribute to their government’s budget through taxes. Tax revenue and other contributions from society (like charity) is used on spending.
Here money comes from oil revenue (no or little wealth is generated). Some of this money is given to the society as salaries, and some as public spending. So why charity? Just allocate more oil money to zoos, hospitals, ext.. instead of giving it to the society and taking it back to spend on public issues.

The government has money and they can support the Zoo and there are bodies that would fund it. The question is, why has the Zoo not approached them yet?

There are daily flights to India, djelibaby, the greatest handout that you will ever get out of Kuwait will be electricity prices same as they were back in the 1970’s and petrol at .88 cents a gallon. C’est le vie!

Last time I went to Kuwait Zoo was a few years ago with my son and daughter. It must have coincided with a school outing as there were a few hundred students running around, throwing food and rocks at the animals. Pandemonium !!!!

The teachers couldn’t control them, why the hell they brought them.
The Zoo keepers did nothing … Useless …
The only sane animals were behind the bars !!!!

Why did the Zoo admins agree for the school to visit in the first place is beyond me, it just shows lack of competence.

This same Safari park was meant to be built in Kuwait years ago.

Lesson learned: Kuwait thinks and plans, UAE builds 🙂

In Kuwait we are great at planning. We’ll gladly spend KD 10 mill to build … then spend KD10 to maintain it for the next 10 years ….

Good thing its nots built here where tourism is next to nothing and cleanliness is seen everywhere …

Donations aside, why cant Kuwaitis lobby/pressurize their local MPs to look into this problem?

I’m sure they can be reasoned with…to some extent.

Why don’t the people pressurize their MPs for better road safety … We feel it daily, MPs feel it daily, everyone feels unsafe on the roads.

Compared to an ambiguous zoo …

Yeah we the people …

Who is driving your car? You or your MP?

That’s a pretty silly relation. The responsibility to drive your car safely rests with you. Not your MP.

The elephants of the zoo are the responsibility of the State and should therefore be taken care of properly by the State.

You didn’t get what I was implying … I’ll clarify it …

MPs drive their cars, or get their drivers to drop them off. They see the problem daily on the roads.
Non MPs who are on the road see the problem daily.

Nothing is being done about a problem that is clear and affects everyone, now you are asking they solve the problem of an ambiguous zoo which they may not have even seen.

that’s one ugly t-shirt to buy, and it’s like Kuwait don’t have money to create a brand new zoo that is 10 time better and more suitable for the poor animals, I’d say pay money for poor people in Kuwait (now people will say there is no poors in kuwait !!, hell yeah there are)
