Stray dogs will no longer be killed

straydog

According to Kuwait Times, the government will no longer kill stray dogs but instead will capture them and deport them. Yeah I know deportation sounds funny but by that they actually mean they will be sending the dogs to countries who would want them.

That’s a lot better than the alternative which is having guys driving around with shotguns killing them or having the government poison the dogs. [Link]

Ha!
Who is even going to catch the dogs? Rehabilitate them? House them? Feed them? Train them? Where will they deport them too…there are stray dogs everywhere in this world…
I sincerely doubt there will be follow through on this..

It’s already being done, K’S PATH have been doing exactly that for years now and they’ve been trying to get the government to apply it on a larger scale. My guess is they finally got through to them.

Well some of the local animal rescue groups have been sending the dogs to the US for the past few years so I am guessing the government will be working with them and just helping finance the whole thing.

Just out of curiosity.. Do we know if the deported dogs would be treated in a humane way in the country of destination or they would simply be shipped in cramped containers to a third world country “to deal with them”?

Highly doubtful story. I’ve never heard of a country with a shortage of dogs and especially no ordinary stray-dogs, which have to cost a fortune by the time they’ve gone through all these procedures.

I guess they’ll be served in China. To hungry diner-guests.

you ever had an egg man? you do realise what it is right? chicken period? Sausages? Oxtail soup? Steak and Kidney Pie?

Nothing makes dog any less or more gross than anything else but force of habit. A quick analysis of the food you probably eat, will reveal that you are probably no less gross than me

relax, just an opinion

I doubt that, if there’s any order in my life its in my strict and clean diet.

Killing them the way the government does here is inhumane but even in places like the US shelters will eventually kill dogs and cats that can’t be cared for. The shelters are already overstuffed so they just give a very large dose of anesthesia to animals nobody wants, they go to sleep and don’t wake up.

I get the outcry about shooting and poisoning them but even shelters with properly trained vets realize you need to kill the animals if there is a population problem.

It’s way more effective to make sure pets are sold spayed/neutered so idiot “breeders” don’t make a bunch of inbred offspring that end up in the streets.

Agree. They should focus their efforts on neutering/spaying in order to prevent further breeding. The overpopulation issue should resolve itself within a few years. Additionally, how about opening an animal shelter *gasp* in Kuwait itself? Create more awareness and encourage adoption from the shelter rather than unethical breeders.

Muslims sometimes forget that animal rights are Islamic rights. Needless violence against animals is condemned in Islam according to the Qura’an & the Hadith.

Our saluki rescue group here in the US imports dogs from the UAE and Qatar rescue groups almost weekly. And often they will have found homes for those dogs before they even arrive. The challenge they often face is the funding for the flights. So if the new program is also assisting with the cost of transport then it seems like a great idea.

Why is this a good idea? Wouldn’t it be better to finally start solving this problem at its roots?
Like aaa states in his comment. Cause and effect.

This kind of costly empathy seems to me a bit ‘over the top’.
Dogs legally extradite to the U.S., where they themselves still have to euthanize dogs after a certain period in the shelter. It’s just shifting the problem.

Marcel, I totally agree there are better solutions; education, shelters, etc. But so far the government has provided minimal support. Any workable program is a good start. And yes, sadly we do have to euthanize animals here in the US but there are far more people here seeking a pet than in Kuwait. Not to mention the difference of population.

WELL DONE, and finally!!! It’s always better to humanly deal with the problem, no matter what. Now the government just need to realize they need to educate the people on how to deal with pets in Kuwait. Starting with the Friday marked.

After that they need to clean up the garbage buffet so the strays dont have a food source. Larger, closed cans is a start.

yalla kuwait move forward.

NO! I vote for deporting cockroaches! Those damn expats have provided a breeding ground for them, where are the passports for those cockroaches? huh?

Illegal migrating cockroaches are taking our food scraps away, the street cats have been in this country longer than them, they have the right to those scraps first!

The government talks BULLSHIT! I have been 4 years the chair person of Paws in Kuwait and know the situation quiet well. The government was during the past years UNABLE to set up a spay and neutering strategy or so called CNR program. That means Catch, neuter and release. The municipality got help and training from WSPA, PAWS and K*s Path..after that Time Paws asked several times when they would implement and start the program…they had 1life Trap, no stuff, no car, no extra shelter, nothing!!! So and now they tell us they send the dogs out of the country??? How stupid and ignorant you have to be to believe that?? We are talking of yearly thousands!!! of dogs being born, bred and abandonded! We are talking about feral dogs also which would never be brought to a shelter or rehomed!!! Paws and other privaye people or shelters send maybe 100!!! Dogs per yeat to the US OR Europe…so what ate they talking about?? Do u really think the government would spend 300 to 500 Kd to send a stray dog out of Kuwait???? And we are talking of Thousands!! These dogs will be either killed secretly or will end up in China, why not to make some extra money!! This is so sickening and makes me so so upset to put it even in the news! But there might be people trusting in their government..go ahead..what I don’t see I don’t know…and I really thought Kuwait has learned something about the shameful work with their self created problem of overpopulation..this is such a lie!!Open your eyes you people and don’t prefer the easy way of looking the other way

This whole thing is being over escalated and turning into a scam. Soon we’ll have a couple fresh new millionaires.

Absolutely ridiculous but of course this is Kuwait. The poisoning and shooting is so wrong, it is not the dog’s fault that they are stray. Someone somewhere dumped a dog and this is whathappens. Also it is disgusting that K’SPATH murdered thousands of dogs in a very short period last year and even had the Audacity to try to justify it on their web page. True Rescue groups would not ever just randomly go out there and capture and euthanize because they felt it was in the interest of the locals.

“murdered”
Oh lord.
They’re an underfunded, understaffed shelter barely hanging on as it is. Most shelters euthanize, please join us in the real world instead of the ideal one you’re fantasizing about.

Murdered?

How about they euthanized animals that were suffering due to being poisioned and harmed due to inhumane people. So it is better to let the animals suffer? Die in the desert from starvation and dehydration?
I highly doubt it was in the “thousands” as there is only person at KsPath capable of performing euthanization. At least they are making a differece? What are you doing exactly to help?
“True Rescue Groups” will also have animals euthanized instead of slowly dying in pain. Before you go around slandering organizations making a difference, you should do your research.

Balediya can start to deal with all the farking discusting stray cats. Traps, poison, shoot them, whatever it takes.

How about SHUTTING DOWN THE ILLEGAL PET BREEDERS AND IMPORTERS instead. We can begin by shutting down the Friday Market!

Closing down the Friday market is too simplistic a solution imo. They would just set up shop secretly somewhere else. They can start by imposing fines and punishment on animal abusers, and strictly monitor the illegal smuggling of exotic species.

why not fund more shelters more education – Kuwait upper class/elitists seems to be catching the “philanthropy” bug these days imitating their white masters why not put them into some good works.

to be fair though there is more charity in kuwait towards animals than there is towards humans. you dong see this sort of outrage or even awareness of human rights violations in kuwait. bring that up and youre told to gtfo

The solution is simple: Import North Korean migrant workers, and let them feast on the strays.

That’s a much more realistic solution than ‘deporting them’.

To be realistic, all male dogs in kuwait should be neutered.
The same applies to cats.

Love this country .. even the dogs dont escape deportation!! Some one call Jimmy Fallon

Cop to Bitch .. Wayn Bataka??
Bitch to Cop .. My dog husband ate it..
Cop to Bitch .. Heard that before..
Cop calls a fellow cop friend with a van in control .. Send me a van I got a hot bitch to deport
Bitch to Cop .. No Please anything but the van
Cop to Bitch .. Sorry Bitch, No Bataka no can stay in country

As van leaves with crying Bitch .. cop takes out cell phone and calls contacts in Chinese and Korean Embassies..

Korean & Chinese Embassy Contacts .. Yes??
Cop to Korean & Chinese Embassies.. My Quota for the month is done.. make sure cheque is delievered at the usual time.
Korean & Chinese Embassy Contacts .. Sure thing once the numbers are verified.
Cop to Korean & Chinese Embassies.. My numbers are always good and hangs up.

Cop to himself .. Love this country, Bonus and Pay hikes for deporting expats , Cash on the side for the dogs and bitches.. Who says life aint good??

Finally something positive is being done, it’s about time, that they find a solution for the growing problem in Kuwait, poisoning and killing is very cruel.
I do my share of helping animals saving them and adopting them as well, but how many can save. The control should be from the start, animals that come into the country, all pets should be spayed and neutered. There should be a campaign set by the government to do this to all stray cats and dogs.
Hope the news is true, and this will actually take place.
