A reader emailed me informing me that around a month ago her uncle had a motorcycle accident on the road to Hilton resort (Al Mangaf) because of an unmarked speed bump. She shared the video above of her uncle with his son backtracking the route he took before his accident.
When you watch the video you’ll see that the first speed bump has no markings, no reflectors and no sign before it warning of speed bumps ahead. All she’s asking for is the Ministry of Public Works to consider marking the speed bump so that no one else gets hurt. I think thats a very reasonable request. [YouTube]

This is one tinny thing, the whole public works needs to be formated
suing for damages is also reasonable. that was dangerous and reckless.
Suing the government? You must be new in Kuwait 😀
Haha 😀
i’m bahraini, and people here sue the MOH (ministry of health) and municipality all the time and they win any cases. This was foreign to us as well until a short time ago.
hahahah suing the gov loool u my friend made my day 🙂
I have not met or heard of a single person who sued the government for legitimate reasons and didn’t end up winning the case.
Suing the government and getting money out of them? good luck trying to file the papers…
Welcome to Mangaf!
I’m driving on this road every day and when they install this stupid bumps first time, I was driving around 80km/h and I didn’t notice it 🙁 Next day I pay 140KD for fixing my suspension 🙁
Try to jump on bump like this without brake and when you driving 80km/h. Not only car suspension was damaged, I think I need visit to dentist too 😀
LMAO dude, that was hilarious
LOL
i would feel sorry for a Porsche or any other low car. That can damage the entire car including engine and trans.
Everytime I hit a speedbump like that I imagine the workers that lay down the pavement to make the speed bump laughing and snickering at the fact that none of the filthy rich kuwaities with stupidly expensive cars will see this speed bump coming. then I think of how sad I am and how racist my thoughts can be and i move on with my life……………….
lol +1
Except that’s how they think even though the workers are only following orders of construction. It’s the construction company’s fault.
There is a lot negative Kuwaiti stereotypes. So it only adds to their prejudice from their perspective of already getting low wages even though in comparison their country they are good wages. That’s the relative difference.
And these workers getting a better deal as minimum wage compared to minimum wage in first world countries.
However, it’s kind of getting what people pay for. Except the construction company is charging whatever cost to the government and keeping the rest as profit.
Last month I had to change the steering rack, pinion & few other stuffs which cost 450KD when they decided to surprise me with new speed bump with no marking or warning in Sabhan Industrial area. 🙁 …. By the way they did mark the speed bumps afterwards which has already faded and its hardly visible now
While they are at it, could they paint a few lines on 4th ring road? I am not even sure if it is a 3, 4, or 5 lane road anymore….it seems to depend on the time of day…..
I’d like to know if the accident rate has gone up. They’re redoing the other side, so I wonder if that’ll mean no marked lanes going both directions. Just ridiculous. And dangerous.
The weddings in the tents of this road shoot live rounds almost every night. Painted speed bumps are the least of our worries…
Yup I live here and gunshots and idiots burning out their tyres can be heard coming from this road almost every night. I believe a groom was accidentally shot and killed at his own wedding a few months back.
At least it’s in their own country. I find it sad/illogical for people without citizenship and no way of providing for their family having children because it’s ‘easy’ for them to have children because one has sperm and the other has eggs. At least in this situation there is some culture and a process that involves lives rounds.
What’s the point of civility if it only makes it too convenient for people to make uneducated decisions. Ironic trade-off.
I think it might have been her uncle who was speeding on a Harley Night Rod. Thank God he’s okay, but he should really have not been speeding.
I highly appreciate the person who emailed this you and made concern authority aware. Thousands of drivers went through this road but never bothered to inform Ministry about it.
They won’t sort it out! Go and paint it magenta yourself so no one else gets hurt
The price of paint has considerably increased over the past few years, this is one reason that could explain the lack of road marking.
The paint used these days is crap. The bumps ARE marked (0:37) but they fade in 2 days.
I live here and the reason why they put these 2 bumps on either side is because there was a very short U-turn, to which people from Mangaf used to cross from the merging on the right to the U-turn on the left dangerously. So they extended the U-turn further away and added bumps.
And if its a wedding night (LOL) then there are cars parked on both sides of either lane effectively turning a 6 lane road into a 2 lane road.
In short – this 2km stretch is not the place to be speeding in Kuwait.
I agree. I too travel on this road ever since they opened. But the bumps are very recently made as explained before and defenitely this road for not speeding.
They could at least keep a sign board on both side of the road. That would help the drivers to notice.
To make life easier for everybody, can’t someone just buy a can of spray paint and mark it?
Lets face it- this area is only ONE place where speed bumps are not marked with durable, road worthy, purpose made, paint.
I would also like lane markings on traffic circles as well. Futile, but it might help for some…
There are actually many speed bumps that cannot be seen in Kuwait.
1. 1st turn into Qurtuba from the entrance of Damascus street. When you go to the end of the road there are 2 speed bumps not far from each other and it has been there for the past few months and no one has painted over it.
2. The road when you’re entering adjacent to Aston Martin. You carry on for a bit and I didn’t realize there were 2 hidden speed bumps ahead.
3. The long stretch going towards Mishref. I didn’t know there was a speed bump and it really messed up my vehicle.
The biggest problem is that they just put up bumps with no signage on the roads and no painting/crap painting. This is dangerous at night time.
add every bloody road in residential salmiya to that list!
I live just across the road from here. At least the speed bumps have stopped the drag racing, but we still have the idiots burning out their tyres, shooting in the air, etc.
Solution: Don’t live in Mangaf
It’s like someone saying “I thought Manhattan was supposed to be nice but I’m living in Harlem and I keep hearing gunshots”
New Mangaf sure as hell is a much better place to be than where you are at the moment.
With so many speed bumps in Kuwait, it’s time for them to invest in Smart Speed Bumps https://www.gizmag.com/smart-speed-humps-retract-at-low-speed/10564/
This is not the only speed bump that doesnt have any sort of marking on it to warn drivers.. there are soo many unmarked speed bumps all over kuwait..
Sadly i was there behind him 5 weeks ago, i had to stand and my Harley scraped the bump luckily no damage for me 7imdilah, but for Mr. Haron Khaja the bike was flipping like crazy just like the movie and i cant see him because of the dust from bike flip and continue on the sand above pavement his shoes were 100 meters away from him, he was lying faced down 2 legs on pavement and he was not moving, i rushed to him to aid him but soon everyone arrived and said not to touch him wait for ambulance but he talked finally 7imdilah and his foot was open like someone sliced it, lesson learned not to speed on roads u have not been on for a while and always know the country always puts speed bumps where u least expect not to save you but to trick you.
3 months ago in King Fahad Highway a friend with his Brand new chooper only 120Km on it split into half while going over a hole in highway which sent him to hospital and still no recovered.
Sad thing his friends tried to get approval to cover that hole in the ground and they refused to give him authorization to do it him self even. so the ministry wont fix it neither will u
They say Speed is the Number 1 cause of car accidents and fatalities in Kuwait.
But people still fail to understand and don’t slow down unless forced to.
So, I say the more the Speed Bumps the better to slow people down.
So , Where does one go to and request/petition if they need more speed bumps put up on their street
? Thanks to help.
James I agree that there is reckless speeding going on in Kuwait but to have unmarked traffic hazards is irrrisponsible by the government traffic authority, who, in every other first world country ALWAYS colours and signposts for the safety of thier citizens. The issue is not the speed bumps, but the fact that they were not signposted or clearly marked. It should be there to slow everybody down, not to destroy peoples vehicles and cause harm to life. That would be irrisponsible.
