Careem Taxis Now Cheaper

careem

Careem is a taxi app similar to Uber but one that actually works in Kuwait. Some of the features of the app include:

– Ability to add a credit card to your account and use it to pay for your rides
– The rides are metered
– Track your ride in real time
– You can pre-book a cab in advance

I’ve never used them but the biggest complaint I had heard about them was that they were expensive. They must have heard those complaints because they’ve now reduced their prices by 30% in addition to the fact they now accept cash payments.

Their app is available for both Android and iOS devices and if you want to find out more you can visit their website [Here]

Update: Careem just contacted me to let me know they created the promo code “248AM”. If you use this promo code in their app then you get 50% off you first “Economy Ride” journey. The promo code is valid until July 31 and applies to cash and credit card bookings.

Thanks Mark, this post came at the right time for me. Scheduled a ride yesterday evening for today at 7am to the main airport from Salmiya block 9. The charge was KD5.2 (metered) for the economy car. It was great. Very clean car, decent driver, and he was waiting 15 minutes before schedule. The car was a Kia Optima.

Hi Dun. Careem has it’s own fleet. If you are booking Economy you can expect to get Kia Optima or Mitsubishi Lancer EX. For Business cars it’s typically Chevrolet Caprice or Chevrolet Impala LTZ. All cars are recent models – not older than 2015. Best.

With their return, they now send random taxis, there clean but they look like the average taxi in the outside

0.350 KD per KM is expensive. add waiting charges on top of it. This means a ride to Shuwaikh from Salmiya will end up costing over KD 4.

Hi Ashraf. In addition to transparency and clean car 🙂 Careem also has 24/7 customer service available to you, trained and courteous drivers, convenience of having all your receipts in one place, you can book NOW or LATER, pay with your card or cash, choose between Economy and Business…

Hi Matea, I understand your point. But the price you will end up paying is more than double. Salmiya to Shuwaikh is KD 2 usually (if you are not a western expat. For westerners it’s usually KD 4).
According to this app it will be 15*0.350 = KD 5.250 + waiting charges, which is a huge difference!
While I would use it for a special occasion, I don’t think this service is for daily use.

I used Uber in India during my last trip. believe it or not, it turned out to be cheaper than the regular meter Taxi.

i thought it was only a bug but it turns out they’ve stopped their service here in kuwait. pretty sad, they were quite reliable.

Hi Matea,

Is the Careem App blocked in Kuwait ? As recently app cannot connect to the internet via Zain (iOS on Xs Max). But when I switched to Dubai eSim it seems to work.

how do broke girls commute here man, so far i get the gist that they don’t casually hop onto buses and regular cabs here, which is really unfortuate
