The payment portal has been out of service for more than a week. That’s when I tried to pay my 40 KD fine.

They really shouldn’t mix civil and criminal affairs. Travel bans should be limited to criminal investigations and the sort.
What they should do is give people a fixed time to pay a fine (30 days), after that time double the fine. And if someone has 2 or more fines, set up a court date. Miss a court date? Suspend the license.
Driving on a suspended license? Now that should be a criminal offense.

Even if you have a ban you should normally be able to pay your violations in the airport and they will let u out. Why does everyone make a big fuss whenever the police here try to enforce the law? Those people are protecting us all at the end of the day. Just let them do their jobs.
Because the process is not as simple as you made it sound (read my post https://248am.com/mark/personal/travel-bans/) and secondly because you shouldn’t get a travel ban because you didn’t pay your KD5 parking ticket which you didn’t know about. Travel Bans should be reserved for severe cases.

I agree that some things have to be improved. My friend had a ban for 15 KD. The ministry of justice employee was not there and my friend missed his flight..
Still this doesn’t mean that the system is bad. Things are not that simple. Some companies might lose huge amounts if people left the country owing them 50 KD each.. The system is not perfect but i think that it is solving much more important problems than it is causing.
There is an important problem that needs solving, but this isn’t the solution.
Truth is, if you were visiting any other country you wouldn’t take kindly to a similar rule.
If only all websites have their captcha as easy as the MOI website.

You have to use Explorer to actually pay the fine. You cab SEE it with Chrome, but you have to PAY it in Explorer. At least that was my experience. They do not care whose name the money is coming from. I can pay my wife’s fines. ๐

Do you know if they’re applying travel bans on people with credit cards bills? With the way things are, i’m not so sure they won’t!

Ban is only applied if you are delinquent on your dues for more than 3 months; and this is flexible from bank to bank. This has been the norm for as long as I can remember. It is not something that is applied from the MOI, it is done through the Ministry of Justice, which enacts the ban because the bank will file a case of mistrust against you.
However, if you are current on your payments – and still have an outstanding balance, you can travel. More than 80% of people carry outstanding balances and loans when they travel.

Mark posted about this – but worth mentioning again that you can subscribe to the SMS service from the MOI which will inform you when you have a violation pending (it won’t inform you at the *time of the violation*, but when the violation appears in the system, which could be months later).

I get the whole cracking down on traffic thing and handing out more tickets, these roads need a lot more enforcement. But there have to be limits with travel bans and all that. As an example, I was in my car waiting to pick someone up from the airport. I got a KD 20 ticket because I was waiting for a few minutes, which I can completely understand and agree with, but they went waaaaaay too far and slapped me with a 3 month suspension. That sort of shit just shows stupidity
