New Digital Speeding Cameras *RETRACTED*

gatso1

A contact of mine sent me the picture above of a new speeding speeding camera being installed on highway 50. According to my contact the new cameras are able to capture speeding motorists from a kilometer away but I haven’t been able to confirm that. The only thing that I have managed to confirm is the fact that these new cameras are digital and transmit pictures wirelessly, eliminating the need to retrieve film negatives.

I did a bit of research and turns out he new cameras are called the T-Series and produced by a company called Gatso. According to Gatso these are some features of the cameras:

– Violations are captured regardless of whether the vehicle is approaching the speed camera or receding from it and only one camera is required to enforce multiple lanes of traffic.

– Integrated Wi-Fi and a web based user interface provide easy and secure control from any web enabled device.

– The RT4 tracking radar simultaneously measures the speed and position of up to 32 vehicles in the coverage area. This technology allows even the busiest of intersections to be effectively enforced.

– The 20-megapixel CMOS camera is designed exclusively by GATSO, combining 30 frames
per second (fps) full frame image capture with unrivaled photosensitivity.

So basically we’re pretty screwed mostly since these cameras are hard to spot. On the bright side (if you can call it that), because the images are new wirelessly transmitted, this means we should get the fines sooner then before.

Thanks Dragos

Update: Ok, looks like this picture was NOT taken in Kuwait. I usually double check stuff like this but since my contact on two previous occasions sent me speed camera information that was accurate, I didn’t think to verify the image. In this specific case it was a picture sent to him from a friend and after looking up the image it seems to be old and taken in Bahrain. So false alarm sorry.

What a horrible nasty little device. I hope that they never bring it here. If they were to bring it here they would most probably have to get parliament to approve it (and that’s guaranteed not to happen).

While these may not be coming to Kuwait they are installing more average speed cameras along Highway 30 and Highway 40. These are similar to the ones installed near to the southern Saudi border. Average speed cameras are the final weapon in the war on speeding and can’t be tricked other than slowing down. Well played Kuwait well played.

oh thats what those are, damn i hate average speed cameras cuz there is no escaping them. well anyway i generally don’t speed on highways, i only seem to get speeding fines on the gulf road, thats my achilles heel

Someone forwarded a whatsapp video of these babies flashing after a speeding car passed – looked like the area near Bnaider/Wafra. But thanks for the good news that it wasn’t Kuwait.

But yeah, we’re getting more average speed cameras on the 30 and 40, the metal structures are being installed 🙁

Kuwait needs to
(a) install these types of cameras everywhere and fine violations immediately.
(b) enforce average speed cameras and fine violations immediately.
(c) monitor left shoulder speed and fine violations immediately.
(d) monitor right shoulder driving and fine violations immediately.
(e) monitor queue breakers on signals and fine violations immediately.
(f) monitor tailgating and fine violations immediately.
(g) monitor motorists who force you to change lanes by coming very close to your vehicle and fine these type of violations immediately.

What kuwait needs to do is have stricter driving tests, more red light cameras and cops that actually enforce the law. A small sticker on your rear windshield will get your car impounded but I’ve seen cars run the red light in front of cops and not get any sort of punishment.

Car manufacturers should design smart cars which are linked to GPS and don’t allow you to over-speed or tailgage or jump queues and these cars should be linked with traffic police and the car itself should have retinal scan and finger print scanner and no need for card licenses, everything will be linked with traffic police and the vehicle will not get started if your license is blocked or withdrawn due to violations and your violations will be immediately sent to traffic police.

That would be dangerous, sometimes you need to be able to accelerate to get out of a difficult position or maybe tailgate for a second during heavy breaking so the guy behind me doesn’t slam into me. I’d like to make the decision myself. Car manufacturers can limit the car speeds electronically, instead of a beep warning when u hit 120 they could have the cars top speed 120 but they don’t do that for obvious reasons.

Some companies install a GPS and something like a tracker in their company cars, and it monitors things like the persons driving habits and speeding.

Smart cars will be able to do that. They will not allow you to get close to car and if you are in danger will take immediate action, if there is no space to move left, right, ahead, backward, the car will go up in the air !!!

I don’t know how i missed it but i don’t think it will be necessary, fingerprint can be spoofed, retinal biometric cannot be spoofed unless i don’t know you take out somebody’s eyeballs and use it for scanning and don’t worry we will evolve, if spitting is required or you have to give your blood to the car or shit in a cup, we can accommodate those additions.

I believe those are traffic density sensors. There are no lenses since they use microwaves to determine the speed on the road.
