Online Driving License Renewal is Here!

Previously I used to renew my driving license once every 10 years since that’s how long they used to be valid for but ever since the government changed it to match the residency period, it’s become the worst thing in the world to do. Trying to get your driving license renewed in Kuwait is a terrible experience because the traffic department just wasn’t prepared to handle the vast amount of people. The lines at the traffic department would be incredibly long and there was no guarantee if you waited in line you’d get your license renewed since they would limit the number of renewals per day. That meant you’d have to go multiple times and it was just incredibly stressful.

This year I used a company called Khadamat Express to renew my driving license and it was a really good experience. They charged me KD10 to do the license renewal for me and another KD10 to pick up my paperwork and old license and then deliver the new one to me when done. The process took around 2 days and it was worth every penny.

But, according to the MOI, you can now renew your driving license online and then pick it up from machines around Kuwait including one that’s in Avenues. Oddly though, I can’t seem to find the link to online renewals anywhere on their website so maybe someone uploaded the video a few days early. In any case, once this is live it’s going to make the renewal process so much easier! If you can find the renewal link please share it in the comments below so I can add it here.

Update: To renew your license you need to click this link and login using your MOI mobile app username and password or register if you don’t have an account.

Update2: Umm wtf, this seems too good to be true. I just renewed my motorbike license in under 5 minutes via the link above and the only document they asked for was a digital copy of my civil ID. After paying the 5KD renewal fee it told me I could go to any kiosk and print out my new license. This is crazy good!! Not only that but it actually gave me a digital copy of my new license right on the spot!

I believe what they mean online is only the document and paperwork being available online!
I don’t think you can apply for the renewal service online.
I feel cheated 😀

Hi all,

I applied through online for driving license after applying it shows I can I collect it from KIOSK. I tried Kiosks in Avenues and Alkout mall both are closed due to corona.Anybody know any other KIOSKS which is open during this time. Pls help.

Yesterday night I have successfully completed the renewal but today morning when I went to collect the license from Ahmadi muroor they did not install the machine there and the employee sitting in the reception doesn’t even know abt it. It seems now they have installed the machines only in the avenues mall.

I went to jabriya traffic department today, 2 machines were there but not active they did look used and old though. So i went inside to the right where they renew the license and I told the lady there that I renewed online if they can on the machine, she took my old license and asked me to wait. In 5 min they called out my name and handed me my renewed license. No application from, no photos, no work permit, no sponsors signature and no standing in line and waiting for hours to renew a drivers license. This is truly crazy amazing!!

did you request your picture to be changed? i’m guessing if you choose to change your picture it needs to be verified by a human before the process completes.

Hi, are the kiosks just at the traffic departments? Didn’t they originally say there would be one in Avenues? Just did mine online but the kiosks are only showing at traffic departments.

So the link seems to be working now, phew.
I requested for my picture to be updated, and it never prompted me for the payment as well.
My request is pending since yesterday, looks like I should just cancel the request and stick with my old photograph.

I was able to pick up mine yesterday from Al-Kout Mall (not the Souq). The license machines are located behind a set of escalators on the ground floor – right beside the cars currently on display, close to H&M. And as mentioned by others, there are helpful staff around.

My licence renewed at MOI app where as in the web status showing still under process since yesterday .

And I got a message from them that final process is pending and will notify me once it’s ready to print .

Did any one have such experience?

where in the MOI app do you see the renewal application status? there’s only the icon to see your current license status. thanks.

Ok, collected my license.

The machines are right next to the Mercedez showroom in the Avenues.

The whole process took less than 5 minutes! They have staff nearby that are very helpful as well.

This is really amazing.

Check in MOI app it must have approved same date ..
in this case go to kiosk and request educated person there to help u .. they will do it in few minute

Don’t ask culture less uneducated idiots.. they will ask u to go and come back later

I got a message today (5 days since i applied and 1 day after licence expired) saying my photo is wrong and i need a pic with blue background. There are photo requirements on the upload page which say white or light colored background lol

How did you upload your signature? Have you just sign in a plain paper then scan and upload? I am confuse of this signature requirements. Thank you

Can anyone tell me whats the “Residency Number” that is being asked for while signing up on the website.
it says its a 9 digit number on your passport but i am still confused which number is it exactly.

Currently only At avenues near ( Mercedes showroom At phase 4 ) , Alkout mostly will start tomorrow ( 21st ) .

Normally once after your payment the request get approved in 15 minute . If incase rejected you need to contact Trafic department .

For some it may show under processing and in MOI app you could see ur licence details with new expiry ( renewed ) in that case approach the IT guys at the kiosk location and explain then in detail ( you should approach right person not just uncultured illiterates who stand there ) , they will do the process quickly this happens due to files are not uploaded in their Software .
The process is very simple . Select language
Insert ur civil ID on right side , sign in with ur credential , go for print option , insert ur old licence at left in few minutes u will get new I
Licence .

After submitting civil id and photo and signature how much time it takes to approve i submited on 19th and still showing pending for approval

As one of the requirements what ìs the meaning of “signature” to be uploaded is it my signature? Thank you for ansering

In MOI app also my license is not showing as renewed.

I submitted on 19th till today it was showing pending for approval but today evening i received email and showing in status that ur request rejected due to photo kindly upload clear blue background photo

I uploaded 25th today with blue background photo i can’t submit without uploading photo so now it’s showing pending for approval (wait n wait)

Same problem i faced with the photo. Still awaiting approvals.

Very Slow process. Could have got the driving licence from Traffic department directly in 3 hours. Feels like the traditional method is worth waiting in Traffic Department for 3-4 hour rather keep on refreshing the MOI page every hour to check if it approved or not.

Applied online last Wednesday and got a reply this Sunday to upload clear picture.

Still waiting for approvals.

Finally got it approved and renewed my Driving license for 1 year.

Only thing is the date of issue starts from the date of payment.

My driving license expiry date was 16th Dec 2019 , i paid today 28th Nov 2019 and the new date of expiry is now 28th Nov 2020.

so would advise to make the payment on the date close to the current expiry so that you don’t lose the days if anyone is concerned about it.

My request is approval but still pending payment since 19th November. I am already payment Did anyone else face similar issue.

Hello Everyone, KNET Payment page is showing error. I received the message to pay the license fee of KD 1.000. But after entering the Bank Details, the KNET Page is showing error. It says error is payment, your payment is cancelled and returned. PLEASE HELP. What should I do to pay KD 1?

is any one getting payment error? Have been trying to make the payment since a week. But everytime there is a payment error

I do not think it is available anymore. The tab to renew the license is gone. It only shows the status of your license, as if it is of any help.

I just renewed my lisence few weeks ago and this forum made a big help though…
I printed it in avenues Phase4

The review and comments help me a lot to renew my driver license easily..i just follow instruction given on it..Submit the documents..Civil id by Pdf file..and my photo which is jpeg file..and my signature. Which i sign on the portal.. ..i file on feb 18 2020 ..after 2 days pending approval..they sent notification that i can pay the renewal amount fee..luckily today. Feb 20.2020. i got my renew driver license in marina mall. Main entrance

Apparently, if you need to undergo medical examination, online printed forms have to be brought to police for photo stamping, then going to Qortuba for the medical itself. Medical form have to be submitted in person in Jabriya and the online request cancelled, in order to get renewed license printed there on spot. Wish I knew beforehand, though.

With the COVID-19 and all malls are closed, are we allowed to go to the KIOSK and get our renewed driver’s license and if so, is Al Kout Mall open for this???

I have a pending application for my driving license renewal.My license expiry date was on 23r May 2920.I am over sixty years and I am required to undergo an eye test in one of the medical clinic authorized by the Kuwait traffic department.I don’t think it possible at this time because these particular clinic is still close til now.My question is can I drive pending the approval of my driving license renewal request online?Please advise.

After completed the online procedure. i went to alkout mall Fahaheel. They barricaded the machine along with some chairs. They are allowing only Kuwaiti and Kuwaiti house driver. Other people are not allowed. Is there any reason why others are not allowing.

“The applicant has a pending personalization request and cannot submit a new request”

It seems we got to visit the Traffic dept like how v used to visit before the online renewal started. Go with the application for renewal and tell them the online renewal shows an error. Take a screenshot of the problem along with u.

I made an application for renewal of license and took an appointment for the Traffic dept pertaining to my area. Went there along with renewal application, Civil id copy, work permit , 2 photos with blue background( in case you wear spectacles, you would need a photo wearing the same) , sponsor’s signatory proof ( in case u work at a pvt company ) and submitted the docs. They printed out a paper at the counter 10 with all my details about residency and profession. In case you have a valid residency you will have to pay 3kd by KNet and they’ll paste a 3kd stamp and renew your license at the counter. Then take the whole application and submit at counter no. 2 to print the card.
Sometimes they’ll ask you to go do it online, but just show a screenshot of the problem you’re facing online and they would fix the issue at the dept.

In my case I had lost my card before I could renew it online. So I approached them with an application along with a police report to replace my card with a renewed license. But they asked me to come back as my residency had expired and I was on an extension. Right now, I went back to them after renewing my residency and submitted the previously made application along with all documents at counter 10 and paid a fine of 10kd, because I had lost my card. After that I got the signature of the mudeer at the traffic dept and resubmitted my docs for renewal.. paid 3kd and that’s when they told me that since I had tried to do my online renewal , I would need to go outside and cancel it and come. I went to the cabin just outside the main hall and asked them to check and cancel it. Got that done and came back to the counter 10. Then they told me that I would need to submit a photo with specs on, which I didn’t have at the moment. Then I had to go out and be get an instant pic taken . Got it done and submitted my application again. After 10mins I got my renewed license.

I just paid 3 KD for my License renewal online from MOI website, I was directed to the KNET payment page, I paid the amount, the amount was deducted and after the payment was done, I was shown an error “Error 400: Bad request: error providing service” after this error I visited the MOI website again and it showed me that I have pending payment for my License renewal request. When I check with my bank the amount was already deducted. I seriously feel sad what kind of developers they have hired to maintain public’s data. Their website are not up to the international standard, anyway, I lost 3 KD and I am not willing to pay again until I hear from them. Anyone faced the similar situation?

I renewed on line with moi website which all went well. Saw photo of my new licence. Cost 3kd. Then went to marina mall to use the machines that are there. All closed off, not allowed to be used and jolly policeman saying go to Jabriya. I don’t want to go to Jabriya, I work! As usual Kuwait does half a job.

Happened same with me also. The guy told me in avenues that the machine are only giving licnese for Maids ans drivers of Kuwaiti people and asked me to went to Dajeej. After that I went to Dajeej and got my license in a traditional way from Dajeej. So you should do the same I guess.

I just submitted my application to renew online, all done. And now the status on my request page says- waiting for printing. Anyone can let me know if that means I can go to Jabriya to print the card (since now kiosk is only for Kuwaitis). How do I know when its approved and ready to be printed? The status is rather confusing. TIA

Renewed my license online and paid only KD1 processing fee! It was renewed in no time and after refreshing the Kwt Mobile App on my mobile phone, it showed a renewed driver’s license with another year of validity. Super convenient! So the physical printed license is not required anymore, which is great, no need to queue at the kiosk, and good for the environment too.

Ok, here is my problem. I’m travel to another next month country for a vacation and i need to rent a vehicle. I’m worried that the e-license will not be acceptable if i show it to the rental company, or to the local police in that country. Is there a choice wherein you can personally request for printed physical driver’s license as before, even if i have to pay for it?
