PASS App – Ticketless and Cashless Parking

PASS App is a new app and service that recently launched and it has me excited because it’s a service I would so definitely use. I don’t like carrying around cash but I tend to do so mostly because I need cash to pay for parking. PASS App solves that issue by allowing me to pay for parking without the need to have cash.

The way it works is simple. You download the PASS App and set up an account. I added my two cars to the account and also added some money. Next time I visit 360 Mall (the only location where PASS App works right now), a camera that is installed at the gate will read my car plates and recognize me as a PASS App user. When I’m done shopping, I head to the exit and another camera will read my license plate and open the gate for me. The parking fee gets automatically deducted from the funds I have in my PASS App.

Such a simple idea but one that is so useful. Right now PASS App only works at 360 Mall, but once it gets installed in more places this is going to be such a practical service. If you want to try PASS App you can download it from [Here]

Also, check out their instagram account since they have videos explaining how the service works @get.pass

This is great – I really like the idea but the majority of parking lots don’t have license plate readers.

I can only think of two – 360 and the airport.

It also won’t work if your car doesn’t have front plates (like a bike, for example), or if the front plate is on the side (some sports cars have this problem).

I am not sure how sensitive the license plate number is in Kuwait, I know in the US its a big privacy issue.

This is really great and a welcome departure from the “me-too” flood of apps I have seen lately.

I’m with anon – a dedicated lane would be excellent and the next thing they should do is tap into the subscription systems at some lots, so you just swipe your phone at the NFC reader, and it deducts from your balance. A large majority of lots have these now.

Hey well the plate readers are installed by them, not the parking lot. The license plate reader at 360 Mall for example belongs to the PASS App.

You’re right that it won’t work with bikes but that’s not really a big deal since it just means bikers won’t be able to use this but everyone else can. Also only a handful of supercars have awkward plate locations but those are just the minority (not everyone is driving around in an Aventador or LaFerrari) so it’s fine if they can’t use the app.

License plate numbers are not a privacy issue in the US and shouldn’t be an issue here. How could it be a privacy thing, it’s plastered on the front and back of your car for the world to see…

It was a privacy issue because any joe-blow with an LPR can look up your details from the license plate number – as the database is public.

It also allows people to track where you were.

The airport already has self-pay parking and automatic gates by the way. As long as you keep the ticket with you, you can pay at the yellow machine and then exit from the unmanned gates.

I think the LPR at the airport are for security and tracking, so not sure how they would integrate it there.

Wonderful idea, hope to see it implemented everywhere in Kuwait and the GCC. It solves a problem, make life easier, & the 0.50fils charge is reasonable. Good luck to team behind it.

This would be great, hassle free of tickets and keeping change.
As i had lost my ticket once and ended up paying 10kd for a 30 mins parking.

The worse is those stupid plastic tokens. One fell between my seat and the console and I had to dig it out from the back seat.

Hello Anas,

You need a minimum credit of 250 fils on your account for the entrance barrier to let you in without a ticket. If you park your car for any amount that is above 250 fils, your account will be overdrawn & you will be charged with the remaining balance the next time you top-up your account.

Great idea and hope to see them in more locations around Kuwait. Specially Alhamra al Arraya. Also, Do they charge extra for the parking? or is it the same amount we pay without using their service?!

Hello Nora,

You pay your parking fee with an additional flat rate of 50 fils (which is our service charge.)

Also, stay put for our new locations soon (:

The fact that they didn’t share their pricing in their advertisements has me somewhat concerned. Parking here is already a bit overpriced at some public parking lots.

As an example: Let’s assume Parking Lot A charges 0.250KWD for the first hour.. Would I be willing to pay 0.400KWD-0.500KWD just to use the Pass service (especially since they don’t have dedicated lanes)? Probably not.

If it’s the exact same price, or has a very small markup (0.300KWD or 0.350KWD total in my example above), I might be enticed to use the service.

In any case I will probably try it out just for the sake of trying it out and see what the experience is right.

They probably didn’t share their pricing because their prices are whatever the parking lot prices are.

I’m guessing they make their money from the mall, maybe as a cut from the parking fee or a monthly fee of a sort. As customers, we pay whatever the parking fee is and not more.

Oh yeah if that’s the case, it has amazing potential once they offer the service at the Airport, other malls, etc.

Can’t wait to try it out

I was hoping you’re right but that’s not the case.

I go to the gym at 360 and love the idea of this app. So far it’s been working seemlesly.

However, there is a surcharge of 50 fils so while I’d pay 300 fils for an 1.5 hours before, it now costs 350 fils to use the PASS app for the same duration.

I’d would have loved it to be the same rate as it seems boujie to pay extra just so I don’t have to stick out my arm.

Hello Maz,

We charge an extra flat rate of 50 fils for using our services.

Please let us know what you think of your experience when you do use your app! (:

Hey Mark! Just tried it out as I had just read your post and I was meeting friends at 360, and it was so simple and easy it just made me smile! The gate opened up once it saw my car and I got a notification that I had entered the parking lot, and when leaving it just took a few seconds and opened the gate and sent me a message telling me it had taken the parking fees..

So awesome, now if only every place adds this!

Hey Mark,

I tried the PASS app on Friday morning and it worked seamlessly. I am always up for new technology and this is just brilliant but again as many people pointed out, a dedicated PASS lane would help and could also may be lure the customers to pay the extra 50 fils or even 100 fils surcharge ( I think 100 fils could still keep the customers) without much guilt.

Here is a stupid question though. Usually Carrefour @ 360mall gives customer 0.250 KWD cash back if they shop for more than 10 KWD upon showing the parking ticket and the bill of purchase. Do you think PASS can incorporate that? I know…I know..but the man has gotta live 🙂

I see there is an option to enter coupon code while topping up. Do you’ll have active coupon codes available somewhere?

Also, I feel you’ll could attract more users now during pandemic since it’s a no contact pass thru.

Have you’ll seen how just click gives you 5 kd extra for every 20kd you deposit into the wallet. It would be great to have such options.
