For the past couple of weeks I’ve been looking for a clean Datsun 280zx to buy and I’ve noticed that the cleanest (and closest to stock) models I’m finding all have Saudi plates. Does anyone know what the process is to register the cars in Kuwait? Is it an easy process or do I need some sort of wasta? All the cars I’ve been checking out are older than 25 years old so they should be considered a classic for importing purposes.
If anyone can shed some light on this I’d appreciate it.
Update: If you know anyone selling a clean 280zx or even a 240zx or 300zx let me know as well!

Unfortunately, I have no idea.
But I have seen many Saudi sellers in the area that is close to Kuwait who mention that they know how to do it and will help once u buy the car. I would take their word… I think.
I did have my eye on one a while back, then my interest went to a 240sx ls swap, and then to sell my current car and get a used Porsche 911… Wonder what the future holds :p
But I wonder why ur looking at Saudi, most of the good deals I have seen were Kuwaiti.
It’s not about finding a good deal alone but also finding a clean close to stock car and the local ones are pretty messed up
Yea I totally understand you, a good deal to me also means a clean car in good condition.
Its a banned car in Kuwait (because of its bad reputation, usually used for drifting). I wouldn’t try to get it, too much hassle, Cops will stop you everywhere out of suspicion.
And btw you can’t register it with Kuwaiti Plate.
I’m guessing you mean banned to import? Because the car is readily available locally.
Oh and since we r on the subject, I found hilarious listings of different 280’s for sale the owners would have videos of themselves illegally drifting in the middle of highways like its a selling point “look what you can do”
those rides just reminds me of the time when they used to grow the hairy muffs
All i know is you cant register old car or even import it unless your part of the kuwaiti club for classic cars.
As per the rules, you can only import a used car if:
1. The car is under 5 years old
2. Imported by a Kuwaiti individual or company with an appropriate trade license that allows such importation
3. It should have a valid GCC comprehensive insurance
The car has to go through a technical check at the port of entry and then again at the time of registration, shouldn’t have tinted windows, and shouldn’t have any outstanding traffic fines / loans (a letter / certificate from relevant authorities is required as proof). You will pay 5% of the assessed value as customs duty.
If any of the above points is missing, you need solid wasta and (preferably) deep pockets. You will need to hand out envelopes containing KD 50 – 100 at several offices.
Source: Own experience (unsuccessful due to no wasta) + a friend (with some wasta, UK passport and money to spare)
You can also import classic cars if they are 25+ years old. But what is the 25+ year old car is in kuwait but has saudi plates?
I wouldn’t know rules for classic or vintage cars. I was talking from a layman perspective and experience
i don’t think u can register it anymore (banned) but u should be worry about the modification to this specific model, they’re not stock they got rework .. friend of mine is into this, they do everything they can to work on nice model to be stock model .. changing every part etc… thats why they’re expensive
Can your friend find me a clean one? Preferably with a black interior.
Also 300zx (80s version) if also black interior
mark , i do have friend of mine selling an 1988 300zx with black leather ,, car is stock .. if you want ,, i can send you to him ,, car is Kuwaiti registered and insured for a year !
just like these one:

Hey yeah that would be great
When I bought my H3 back in 2008, it was a 2007 model with Saudi plates. The dealer I bought it from that was selling it either took care of the plate change or the finance office did. I am pretty sure it was the finance office. KFIC.
Short answer, Don’t.
Most saudi plates belong to datsun pickup trucks.
The law for importing classics is 40 years not 25.
Plenty of great ones here, if you are serious shoot me a PM and I can help you find what you are looking for.
just shot you an email
If Im not mistaken, the rule is that cars have to be more than 40 years old to be considered classic
Just wondering, why is this car so popular for drifting? Aren’t there other RWDs?
Rule for importing as far as I’m concerned, car has to be under 5 years, or 40+ (classic) which used to be 30+ a couple years ago.
Its easy to do it without any wasta, first you need to buy the car and register it under your name (im not sure if you can do it without having Saudi visa). Then you have to unregister the car from Saudi traffic department and get import license plates on it. Ship it to Kuwait with nessesarly documents, go to MOCI and get temporarly import license, clear it from customs and if anything, then you have to take it to technical inspection at MOI to get it registered with Kuwaiti plates. Thanks it! good luck
email me if you needed any elaboraiton
“first you need to buy the car and register it under your name (im not sure if you can do it without having Saudi visa)”
That itself ain’t possible without a Saudi residency.
“Ship it to Kuwait with necessary documents”
This is not possible unless you’re a Kuwaiti citizen or company with the relevant trade license that allows importation of car.
Hi, Faisal can I have your email or contact number? What about to ship by myself after above documents were in my hands.Meaning that to move in and drive myself by land at Hair Al-Batin and Kuwait border?
I have a friend who got American modified 1970’s 240ZX @ 3500 K.D.
Mark the 3gedy 🙂
