What is this?

Does anyone know what the hell this is? I’ve noticed around 4 so far located on the side of the road in various areas. It looks like some kind of antenna. I’ve noticed them near traffic light intersections so I’m just taking a wild guess here but maybe they’re a wireless remote traffic light management system?

Update: A reader has suggested it could be a radar unit that counts traffic. This makes sense. [Link]

Sure… Bad joke for country with worst internet speed and highest prices in the world.

Anyway we don’t need free wi-fi on the roads because most of the people in Kuwait already have mobile internet and they successfully using it for watsapp, twitter and other bullshits while driving and speeding more then 140 km/h on highways.

I will be glad if they will install mobile network jammers on the highways to stop this stupid “driving and messaging” and I’m sure from next day there will be more then 50% less accidents in Kuwait(suddenly it’s almost impossible technically but it’s just a wish). Messaging while driving is more dangerous then drank drivers.

Sorry for long comment which is not in connection with topic subject but I’m very angry. Few hours ago I saw accident and there was 3 or 4 years old boy badly injured πŸ™

Studies have shown that the reactions times of drivers texting or emailing is impaired to the same level or greater than drivers over the legal drive driving limit.
Many people just don’t realise the dangers of driving while texting, it needs to be taken just as seriously as drink driving.

Except you’re not messaging 100% of the time when driving, you ARE drunk 100% of the time when driving

Your chances of being hit by a texting driver are far greater than being hit by a drunk driver, particularly in Kuwait where texting ( or eating or reading) while driving are still seen as benign acceptable activities by many drivers. It’s not about trivialising drink driving, it’s about making texting while driving as unacceptable as drink driving.

May be device to monitor number of heavy vehicles passing by every hour or every day. It’s just a guess!

Let’s hope it’s not free wi-fi, otherwise you’ll be hearing a lot of “cars tumbling end over end…” on the radio πŸ™‚

I guess you’re right coz ‘Google Now’ shows the ETA to work and the trip back home and it changes every few minutes based on the selected route. It’s pretty cool.

Google maps use GPS data of Android mobile which is connected to internet to calculate average speed of the mobile user /car travel in specific period. result of this data give traffic idea on Google MAP.

My guess it is part of the ongoing traffic management survey that is being conducted (by a foreign contractor) in order to improve the poor traffic conditions in the country.

I guess the government is planning to implement the Rf ID system and could be a RF receiver…Probably it may become mandatory for all vehicle license plates to have an RF ID sticker which will be detected by the RF ID receiver.. just a guess..

Oh god please institute automatic toll systems on crowded roads. I would pay an extra .250 a day or whatever to not deal with horrible traffic going to work. Worked for London!

It doesn’t matter what it is. They’ll stop maintaining it after a month or so and it will stop working anyway.
