Beautiful Ritual Station

Kuwaiti architecture student Jassim Al Nashmi is currently studying in Iowa State University sent me information on a project he completed last semester. The project was his interpretation of what a private space for prayer in the domestic environment can be like. He used traditional Islamic patterns and created a divider of space that would cast light and shadow over the prayer area.

I really like the way the light penetrates the partition and I think the project looks like something that would be featured on Hypebeast or Uncrate.

Very very cool, I really like how the light penetrates through it!

I wish we had larger projects or commissions such as these in Kuwait! It would be very cool and add to the life around the area!

-_- , well if i pray infornt of it i would be distracted by it but thats my fault not his so its HALAL

stop the b/s

The craftsmanship looks great, but it seems a little too simple. What if the the actual partition was more abstract, and not just planar, but actually geometrically complex and three dimensional? It would be sort of like shadow puppetry. The shadows are still planar and can be different every prayer time if it’s blocking sunlight. A different character for each prayer.

i’m impressed. i had a talk with him before and he has some really great ideas. he was actually the last person i spoke to before officially deciding to pursue architecture. i’m glad to see him rising up
