For those of you who grew up in Kuwait during the 80s you’ll most likely remember the show Cine Club which used to take place once a week. The show was hosted by Farouq Abdul-Aziz who would choose a film that week to play and discuss it with the viewers.
Well you can now relive the 80s because tomorrow Farouq in currently back in Kuwait and will be hosting a movie night at the National Library of Kuwait. Farouq will be playing the film ‘Nightcrawler’ (a really great film btw) and then hold a discussion afterwards. It’s so random from the fact that he’s doing this, to the venue location to the film of choice.

Too bad the movie choice is very crap.
you clearly, clearly have no taste in movies.
Agreed.
couldn’t agree more with Mark
deport him or (like the poor indian celebrity gues that came over) just run over him and kill him. That’s how ppl do welcomes in this country
Wait what? You mentioned Indian Celebrity and run over and all I can think of is Salman Khan but that happened in India
Had a story with this guy.. Back in 94 this striking, drop dead gorgeous, deadly beautiful blonde comes to my shop promoting kuwait pocket guide. The lady was married to a kuwaiti but I remember her saying that her marriage was ending that month.
Anyway I agreed to having my establishment listed in the info booklet for the 140 dinars they requested but once all done & just before payment day, the angelic looking face (& body) disappears! Totally,, no phone no nothing, just vanished.
The booklet came out with me in it but against no payments which was not right & the only person who handled the situation was no longer there but I did remember her telling me that Farouq was in charge of that publication but where would I find him?
Years later & on an evening, probably during 2008 give & take a couple of years, I run into him outside the dar al athar old hall in Abdalla alsalim school in maidan hawally having watched a show & by then he’d changed his name to AlFarouq & so I told him the story & asked where I could see him later to hand him his money. He laughs of course & suggests for us to meet at (either alanba’a or alwatan paper , I don’t remember) & so I did drop the money but it was his wife who worked there š
Its been well over 30 years and I still remember Cine Clubs opening credit music clip taken from the 4th movement of Antonin Dvorjak..
That music has entertained and inspired me both in my childhood and adulthood.
