The Urban Analyst

urban

I don’t follow any “fashionistas” on instagram but every now and then a few appear on my explore page and I usually end up flipping through their accounts just to check them out. Majority don’t really capture my attention or stick out but @theurbananalyst is one of the accounts I actually spend more than a second on just because she has a sort of emo look I like as well as her photos having a great color grading style. So last week I ran into her and asked her what she did for a living and she told me she was a student and that she was only 15. I was like say whaaaaaaaaat?

I don’t think I had any talents or skills when I was 15 so I thought it was pretty cool that she’s managed to create a look and style that separates her from the rest. So if you’re looking for a cool fashion account to follow, check her out @theurbananalyst

Donno what to say Mark! I have a younger son to my daughter who is elder than her. I am totally stumped at the values younger generation is carrying.

You messed up on this post Mark.
Don’t glorify 15 year old girls who are able to spend daddys money to post on instagram.. and god..this is fashion..??

please

Calm down Mark.

I wasn’t being too serious about the comment anyways.
I don’t think that’s very professional of you, for your sake I recommend you do not lash out on comments and opinions.
Unless you want to censor opinions, that’s up to you.

You do own this blog after all 🙂

Her daddy/mommy probably worked really hard for it and if they want to spend it on what she wants to do, what is your problem? After all, she is their daughter. Why all the hate?

And about the fashion part, she is fashionable. No doubt it that.

You know how hard the guy who made over 1.5 billion from the Public Authority who now is london worked for that money!

DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY PENSIONS FUNDS HE HAD TO SKIM???? DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT WAS TO PROCESS THAT PIECE OF PAPER :DDD???

First of all if not spending daddys money then spends whos money? Second if not on a hobby that money should be spent then on wat? On food? Or her bills that doesnt exist? When i was 14 i started learning dancing and became a professional in that as a hobby and i grew up to be the best in that .. She is amazing in what she is doing i really did admire her a lot cuz at her age i couldnt dress up like that becuz i didnt know how to .. What does 15 years old girls should do in ur opinion? And not only that why does ur opinion has to control her hobby?

No comments on the fashion part but why are we discussing and bringing unwanted attention to an underage girl. Remove the makeup and she’s just an innocent girl with no other talent worth talking about. Shouldn’t you be getting her parents consent before writing her up being a minor? Something just feels off

Who told you she doesn’t have any talents ? I love how anonymous assholes sit behind their computers judging other people who are out there doing something. What are your talents james other than being an asshole?

Name calling wont get you anywhere Mark. I have a right to my opinion. I haven’t seen you so active, responsive and abusive in the comments section in a while. Object but be civil about it. Anyone can call anyone an asshole but I’m wondering if you’re trying to be one. And reagarding my opinion, I guess the opinion of others above states my case. Use your fame to project real talent. Peace and have a chill pill.

You just fucking contradicted yourself. You called her talentless and I’m calling you an asshole it’s the same thing you did. Just because you can’t see her talent doesn’t mean she isn’t talented, it just means you can’t see it. So thank you for telling me how to do my job, I’ll continue highlighting talent like hers when I see it.

I have to apologize for “no other talent worth talking about” and should have been more descriptive. It wasn’t supposed to be there but anyhow my point was I don’t think a minor doing makeup is a ‘talent’ and that needs highlighting. She’s a young girl I’m sure that has more potential and people like you are ruining it but brining unwanted attention. You’re awestruck good for you – not everyone is. Let her be my friend.

I got your point but let me just repeat myself one last time, just because you don’t think what she does involves talent doesn’t mean thats the case. Fashion and photography are clearly two fields you have no clue about so you’re obviously not gonna understand where the talent in her photos is.

You know, it’s actually people like you who are ruining people like her by not being supportive of their passions. Luckily you aren’t her parents who actually do recognize her talent and are helping her out.

Mark, you’re not a parent, so don’t pretend to know whats best for a child based on your non-experience. Be a parent and then talk about it. Unlike you, I am a parent and I encourage every talent my children have but again I protect them from unwanted attention like what you provide. I regret this entire comments section because as Buzfairy said, its an unwanted deterrent for this child. About Fashion and Photography, I could give you a lesson or two, you have no idea about my tastes or what I do – I don’t intend to educate on those either – I’d like you to continue thinking you’re the best at both. I like the fact you have a popular blog and you have good taste for something’s but by no means an expert – things like this post are out of taste. Lets agree to disagree. I wish you the best in 2016. Take care.

Well clearly when it comes to fashion and photography i’m more of an expert than you if you think she has no talent. I’m not gonna agree to disagree because you’re absolutely 100% wrong here. This post is not out of taste and if you do think it is well thats just you.

why are u making assumptions about her personality or how she thinks if you don’t even know her as a person.. If you’re not pleased with what she posts or does then just shut up. And if you think she doesn’t have a talent, go check out her blog and she what she actually writes. And what would you know about talent, you’e sitting behind a computer screen judging someone who actually has some

Mr. Gath our or whoever you are – I’m presuming from your authoritative post you did not use an electronic device to send your message but used the ‘Matrix’. Since you decided to tell me to shut up I’d like to tell you to shove your head up where the sun doesn’t shine. After that please read my apology and comment above and mind your own business.

I strongly agree with you Ms. Gath, but I assume the urban analyst shoukd be studying for her ap world history exam, even though i love her

Some of you need to relax. There’s nothing inappropriate about this post at all. I think it’s great to see the youth celebrated for their talents instead of kept in a box society feels they belong in. She’s at an awkward age where fitting in is so important most just follow the masses. Instead, this young lady is exploring some creative ideas and expressing herself through talent. Yet while Mark is attempting to boost her self esteem some others are busy tearing her down.

At this age, she ought to do more useful things for her academic development. It’s not about fitting, it is simply not appropriate to do this in Kuwait at this age for so many reasons regardless of how free, liberal or whatever you want to call it her parents are.

I very much doubt with 15,000 followers she has problems of fitting in or she needs a boost of self esteem.

Perhaps, the fact that in America it is normal to let an under aged child leave his family home and let them do whatever they want, but that does not work here.

“it is simply not appropriate to do this in Kuwait at this age for so many reasons regardless of how free, liberal or whatever you want to call it her parents are.”

its not up to you though, you aren’t her and you aren’t her parents. i don’t think justin bieber should be singing but there isn’t anything i can do about that sadly.

What a load of Bullshit. I am a Kuwaiti and u bring insult to our aspiring creative pool of talent. It is absolutely acceptable in Kuwait. If u want to further argue this point look at Kuwait legal customs to get a reality check. Regarding cultural acceptance there is a large, discerning, very educated group here in Kuwait who drive change, motive and action. Read the updated blog post that she posted Jan 9th 2016. A very very well written blog asserting her views on the disagreements put forth by some comments.

Well, maybe she’s very smart. Might grow up to join a great design or fashion school and be super successful. How can you judge her?

meh, you really have no idea what her grades in school are. And it’s shameful that you assume because she’s a talented young woman with a penchant for fashion that she’s not pursuing her education. You are aware people can do both, right?

I didn’t say she has issues with her self esteem, I’m saying that 15 is an awkward age. So why try to tear her down instead of build her up? All children could benefit from support.

I’m quite familiar with the Kuwaiti culture as compared to American culture. This young woman doesn’t appear to be ‘leaving home’ or ‘doing whatever she wants’. She seems to be well adjusted with a supportive family. Too bad her own culture can’t celebrate that.

“This young woman doesn’t appear to be ‘leaving home’ or ‘doing whatever she wants’. ”

That’s an assumption.

Why do most Middle Eastern women feel the need to put on a pound of makeup on their faces? Sad that these young girls feel the need to do the same.

I personally follow her blog religiously , such an inspiration when it comes to fashion and photography sense..
Must admit it’s quite a surprise that she’s only 15 but that doesn’t stop her from being fabulous !

Good for her to showcase her talent and be fabulous at the same time. but i hope she explores other talents before settling in to be a fashionista.

Dressing up and putting make up is not a talent of course, everyone does that. Doing it with style though like she does is a completely different thing, that’s talent. If I gave you and her a brief for a photoshoot I’m willing to bet all my money that her shot would end up looking a lot nicer than yours.

Girls like her might start on their own, but they eventually become just another human billboard for marketing companies.

If there is anything inappropriate in this, it’s how marketing companies turned this underage girl into a tool to promote consumer products.

Is she talented? I have doubts, because most posts are just a promotion for this product or that.

She’s doing this because she wants to not because she has to. No one is forcing her to do this and she likes doing it. So I think she is learning and playing and enjoying her teen years even though you don’t think she is.

There are two kinds of child labor:

One is out of necessity, for example, the children in poor countries who make products in factories, and one is out of greed (parents’ greed of course), for example, children who advertise products. Both are wrong, and the culprit are big companies and their marketing machines, who take advantage of the necessity and the greed.

that’s my opinion.

To be fair Mark, you’ve been called out.

You’ve often attacked the “celebrity” culture on the Kuwait social media scene and yet now you’ve somehow made it a mission to defend a 15 year old emo, doing the same thing ?

What gives ? Are you admitting you were wrong to be so vocal against the paid Instagram celebrities ? If so, fair play.

Well to be fair… you’re wrong. I’ve never attacked celebrity culture, instagrammers or snapchatters on the blog. You can dig through the blog and try to find something but you won’t. In fact I’ve actually highlighted a few instagrammers and snapchatters on the blog and I’ve defended them often in comments.

The only thing I attacked was the method of how “some” instagrammers were misleading their followers by posting adverts or sponsored posts without mentioned they were adverts or sponsored posts.

And yeah when an anonymous asshole calls a 15 year old talentless because his head is too far up his ass to recognize talent when it’s right in front of him then I’ll definitely defend her.

Yes agree, no need for the “talentless” comments, she’s not my taste, but am sure someone will appreciate her style.

You may not have openly said you were happy Instagram opened paid ads to combat the celebrity culture – but reading between the lines – there is definitely contention which is why you posted a super detailed guide how to use Instagram ads – and prior to that a post publishing how much a celeb takes per post (with no commentary, clearly aiming not to cause a reaction )

:))))

There is nothing to read between the lines. All you need to do is read some of my comments on the blog where I’ve clearly defended the rights for instagrammers to generate income. The post listing the advertising cost of some instagram celebrities was an informative one and an eye opener. I didn’t have an issue with xyz making abc or I would have clearly stated it .

At 15? Goddam, I wish I had some sort of talent at that age besides being able to ride no handers on my bike : )
Kudos to her, I hope she keeps on going and keeps on experimenting with photography and fashion : )

People need to calm down. She’s just a teenager who is not doing any harm to anyone.Let her be. I wish I had the guts to experiment with my style when I was 15. And the support of my parents to find my own path. Just following the status quo kills creativity.

Y’all talking like you’ve never been a teenager before.

Mark seems like he’s defending this post with his life lol, if I didn’t know any better I’d assume this was promotion for her Instagram for $. However I think Mark would disclose that it was a promotion tho! SMH

1. This is a real person, with real feelings that can get hurt by these vile comments.
2. If this is the face of a Kuwaiti Fashionista, then she makes me proud. She is following her families’ (plural, not singular) footsteps in setting historic milestones.
3. She’s got parents whom are mature, responsible, and very far from being fools.
4. Her mom is very sophisticated yet down to earth, and quite responsible.
5. I doubt these comments will register with the girl or her parents. When you are that self confident, and know you’re worth; ain’t no negative anonymous comment gonna affect you.
6. However, as a mother my self, I am naturally guaranteed to fly over the edge over these poisonous, awful, and nasty accusations. No parent should read such horrible derogatory comments.

7. Grow up and appreciate talent when you see it. If fashion and makeup and progress is not your thing; just remember: “If you don’t have anything good to say, shut the hell up”.
8. Shame on you shaming a 15 year old kid. That’s the definition of a bully. Hope you’re proud of yourself.

Guess why. I got bullied by other bloggers, who are of the same calibre as the airheads commenting on this teenage girl. Anyways, their horrible comments and actions made me say “you know what, I don’t need this!”.

Do you want me to go back? And thank you so much for this awfully sweet comment.

First of all, I know this young lady personally and she is awesome. She is an insanely talented whitey, is a high honor roll student, and is a journalist, photographer, and blogger, NOT a fashionista. She has more work ethic in her little finger than most adults I know. Not only does she core with her academics and kill it, she sets up her own meetings with companies and creates her sets and everything by herself. Her mom is one of the hardest working people I know and isn’t some rich spoiled bit** living off daddy’s money. This girl with go far regardless of all the haters and will only thrive. She is not doing anything wrong in Kuwaiti culture, she carries herself well, is extremely respectful, and down to earth. She wears that much makeup only in the photoshoots and she rocks! She’s not emo, this is her style and she rocks it. People who don’t know her or her parents shouldn’t make such harsh comments about them. I love this girl and think that Kuwaiti teenagers can learn a thing or two from her. She’s not out buying stuff with daddy’s money and eating her life away like so many other girls her she. Kudos to her.

I’ve been following for such a long time, and she is such a remarkable young lady! I get so excited when I see the youth stepping out of the norm and actually doing something unique, especially if they’re great at it. Good job Taiba!

I’m probably late to this here party but bugger the knockers! You put on a great show TUA and kudos to you. Good to see it, looks really well made and you obviously put a lot of work into it. I’m your latest fan.

And good for you for featuring it Mark.

Well done and to blazes with anyone who complains.

I’d have used stronger language but then you ARE only 15 (something I might have alerted Mark to given some of the heated lingo I just read!)
