Burger & Lobster Opening in Kuwait

Burger & Lobster, one of my favorite restaurants in London in opening up in Kuwait at The Avenues. It’s so very odd since they’re only located in England and New York at the moment. As the name suggests, they only serve two things, burgers and lobsters. There is no food menu just a drinks menu since the food menu consists of just 3 dishes, a hamburger, a whole lobster and a lobster roll. All three dishes are priced the same, £20 in the UK and $20 in the US.

No idea how it’s going to work here since lobster prices in Kuwait are insane. They can’t seriously charge KD20 for a lobster roll here, can they? £20/$20/KD20? Burger & Lobster will be opening in Grand Avenues on the top level right next to Figs. So if you’re standing outside Cheesecake Factory just look up and you’ll spot it.

If for whatever reason the local supply is stupidly priced, they can obviously just ship their own from the UK/US. If they are selling it prepared for $20, then it probably costs them $6-10 raw. After factoring in the shipping they should still be able to sell it for much under 10KD.

This from their website:
Lobster Story Q. How would we get the best tasting Lobster into our restaurants? A. It would have to be flown in alive and well from the Atlantic Ocean. Q. How do we keep it fresh in our restaurants? A. We would have to build some of the biggest lobster tanks in the restaurant industry Q. How do we make sure we continue to give you the best Lobster around even if we get bigger? A. Our friends in Nova Scotia, Canada, have been fishing these wild creatures for generations. Our friend Alex now lives in Canada where he can ensure we have the best possible relationship with our fishermen. Happy families all round.

This is what I hypothesize the pricing scheme would be.

Burger: 4.950KD
Lobster Roll: 12.650
Whole Lobster: Obviously it depends on market price, but I would think they will start at around 18KD for the smaller ones.
Pepsi/Coke: 1.500KD <– this is what I REALLY don't understand

I think they will charge 15-20 KD, I would hate to think they would charge 20 KD but they seem to just take the US price of items and put KD behind it. I think they are aiming for the rich in Kuwait especially those IG ones. I bet they will throw a grand opening and you will see a bunch of Kuwaiti IG stars there or maybe make a commercial with them in it.

Well they can’t charge KD20 for the burger thats for sure. In London and NY they have a one price for all but maybe they’ll be changing it to KD10/KD15/KD20 for Kuwait? 10 for the burger, 15 for the roll and 20 for the full lobster. Although I’m not even sure you can get the lobster for KD20 from the supermarket yet alone at a restaurant.

All the google reviews in the NY branch are raving how the lobster is a steal for 20$, so it’s not gonna work here unless they have the same pricing method….

I agree! Kuwaitis are -surprisingly- conscious about prices, just check out the reviews on Talabat.com. I’ve seen lots of restaurants that shut down due to their exaggerated prices or reduced menu prices. Moreover, I think you can find whole lobster in Sultan Center for the same price.

Not sure why its odd that they are opening here after London and NY. It wont be the first time that an international brand opens in Kuwait before most other places. If Im not mistaken Elevation Burger Kuwait was their first foray outside of the USA.

With regards to the cost of lobster in Kuwait, its artifically high since lobster prices in Asia and the USA are much cheaper even when you include shippping them to Kuwait alive. I think KD 8 per dish would work if they insisted on keeping all 3 dishes at the same price…

It’s a great concept which is backed by Russian money and owners. One of which is George Bukhov who previous experience was in MTV and VH1 Russia. They have a lot of capital to introduce the concept to various markets and operate them with lesser margin to ensure they long-term growth strategy. B&L will be opening in various major cities globally to establish their brand, places with demand and disposable income…such as the UAE and Kuwait. I’m sure Singapore and Hon Kong are not far behind. Look at ZUMA’s growth.

Knowing the place prides itself on serving great quality food at a great price point they most likely will price themselves very competitively. I wouldn’t be surprised if they already own some fishing and shipping companies globally. It’s a strong restaurant group who know what their doing so I fully expect everyone will be happy with their offering, pricing and experience. It’s a great location so let’s see how they do!

I loved the concept when I visited them in London and the place always has a wait. Their cocktails were solid too! I’m definitely looking forward to trying their burgers since there is not one single killer burger in Kuwait, sadly to say.

BGR lost their quality overnight and their menu offering shrunk removing all the premium customization offerings.

All though there are tons of burger joints around, none are worth to writing home about…let’s see how this plays out!

If you were looking at BGR for a good burger u were looking in the wrong place. Head to OFK and order one of their 8oz offerings, those are my favorite burgers in kuwait
