Maybe he could let us know if we’re on track to becoming the world’s food capital by 2030.
Seriously though I think he might like it here. For local cuisine he could go to Freej, Dar Hamad and maybe somebodies diwaniya. Then we have a bunch of trendy places he could drop by like Cocoa Room for breakfast and Street by Al Makan for dinner. We have cool coffee places like Vol.1, a bunch of interesting Indian and Thai hole in the walls and most importantly, we have Sidekick Academy which is a great jiu jitsu facility so he could roll with some of our US Open champions.

Bourdain usually makes it a point not to visit a country that is geographically and culturally similar to a country he’s already visited. In this case, he’s already been to Saudi Arabia which has food that is very similar (and some might say, better) than Kuwait so I doubt he’d venture out here.
If he did decide to come here, he’d probably pick you for a tour guide. You know the food scene here better than anyone and you two so remind me of each other. You’re like two peas in a pod.
I have a bone to pick with him if and when he gets here regarding his downright stupid comments on vegetarianism.
(and some might say, better)
Nooooope
I am strictly referring to their cuisine.
Yeah I disagree with that too. Kuwait has a nice mix between Gulf Arab and heavy Iran/India influences which I really like
The latest studies say plants hurt when you cut them.
Plants can hurt you too now. https://youtu.be/8HOIQjILUBg?t=1m14s
He’d hate St. unfortunately, he’s a vocal critic of trendy restaurants.
well the trip would have to have two parts, one part would be taking him to all these hidden gems we have, the other would be showing him the trendy food scene which has become part of the local culture.
Anyone who has seen his show will know that he’s all about local authentic cuisine…..not wannabe hipster cupcake factories, so I agree he would hate it here.
There is always cafeteria shuwaikh for plan b
Now that I think about it, maybe we should put together a serious list of places he could visit.
The local garbage dump you always bring up in Salmiya, the national embarrassment of having that on his show might actually get it removed 😛
Kuwait got kicked out of both Fifa and the Olympics which you would think would be embarrassing enough to get things sorted and nothing got changed or fixed. So sadly I don’t think the garbage situation behind my house will get fixed even if it was broadcasted to millions of people all over the world.
You can also include the gruesome underbelly of how Kuwaitis treat expats, maids, nannies and laborers. It’s despicable.
Am I the only one who feels that Cafeteria Shuwaikh’s fatayer don’t taste tbe the same after the revamp of the place?
they havent tasted the same since their father died (may he rest in peasce) years back
Kuwait has a lot of authentic food
I take all the foreigners to Bneid Al Gar Kebab shops and they love them
Bonus points: Eat without leaving the car
Ask help from your Filipino counterparts to email him and bring him here, coz Anthony did so many episodes of his shows in the Phils. He looooves Filipino foods and culture. 😍
Oh by the way, don’t bring him in here during these scorching summer months! Hahaha!
We should also make sure he flies in with FlyDubai so that way he doesn’t get to experience our shitty main airport as well
He should definitely not be taken to Peacock because I am sure he had better fine dine Chinese cuisine..
Places he to should stop by:
VOL.1
st. Almakan
Jar by ChoowyGoowy
Dar Hamad
Sushi Bar
‘Tabbab’ Shawarma in Bneid Algar
Kebab Bahraini in Hawally
dar hamad is a rip off
I love the first two on your list and so do most people but again, Bourdain whines and bitches about anything he deems trendy.
He will love Dar Hamad and Kebab Bahraini though!
By the way guys I just remembered that he’s also been to Dubai and Iran, both of which have very similar but far superior food scenes to here, so I seriously doubt he’d drop by here too.
Mark, it still seems like you’re adamant on making this happen so go for it! We will all support you.
yeah but neither Dubai, Saudi and Iran have plans for becoming the world’s food capital by 2030, i think thats our edge.
What are we doing to make Kuwait the food capital? I’m not trying to be an ass, I honestly have no idea what the plans are, please inform me.
Question: don’t we need at least a few Michelin star restaurants to accomplish that?

Step 1: Release a video
So there are no plans?
Well that doesn’t make sense. If they have a goal in mind, they need to take certain steps to achieve that goal.
Perhaps he should come and put those food capital nonsense to rest.
Where is the Kebab Bahrain in Hawali ? More details about the location
i was going before to Sanabis al Bahrain for bahraini tikka and kebab at bahrain st, salmiya
Yeah I’m curious to, I tried Kebab Abu Fadel in Hawalli and didn’t think much of it https://goo.gl/maps/UyJEVQ4E1k22
There’s a Kabab Bahraini in Mangaf (Aziziya Market, beside Gulf Bank). Is it a branch of the same restaurant?
I think they might mean this place, Dana Bahraini Restaurant

Jar is not that good or original which is surprising since it’s owner is a big foodie.
Thats a great idea.
Two words – no booze = No Anthony Bourdain.
Case in point, the Saudi visit.
Don’t count on it Kuwait.
And no, the sedeki won’t suffice…
Hahaha
agreed Anthony is a big drinker, better try Andrew Zimmern
Or Guy Fieri lol
Bourdain aka the coolest guy on the planet, would get sick here. Jar and chowey gooey? Really? What’s next smash burger? Mr Bourdain hates franchises and pretentious/trendy places, unless they’re cheesy af just to make a point. And to the guy comparing Tony to Mark, come on dude (no offense to Mark though).
They’re both guys who, on the surface, look pretty normal but are in fact really curious about new things, especially new foods. They’re sort of geeky that way.
Oh and they’re both tall.
You’re like some weird teacher’s pet craving acceptance
Do you speak English?
Cause that made no sense whatsoever.
That sentence was perfect. Your comprehension is lacking.
No it isn’t. That sentence is grammatically incorrect.
You’re supposed to say “…who craves acceptance” and I don’t. I’ve had some pretty inflammatory back-and-forths with Mark, I even called him geeky back there which isn’t typically a compliment.
But on the whole, yeah I find him endearing. He doesn’t have a comfort zone, he’ll happily try out different cuisines and not many people are like that here unfortunately. It’s commendable.
So creepy. Like Herbert from Family Guy.
You have no idea what you’re talking about if you think all of Kuwait is trendy food and franchises
Go spend 200 fils on kebab sandwiches plz
He would love that bone restaurant, I forgot the name but he likes weird foods.
Doubtful– Kuwait puts SAUCE on absolutely everything, the portions are small and expensive for what you get usually. There are some exceptions and I think a few places know what they’re doing, but overall, it seems to be the same type of food everywhere and service is AWFUL!
Am I the only one who feels like I have to beg waiters and baristas to take my order?
Yes. You’re doing something wrong in life.
As much as I’d love to hear his thoughts on the whole food capital thing…
I think it’s safe to say that it’s far from possible to achieve that , judging by the market demand and views on cuisine.
You have a vast market that want the same things everywhere, you’ll find people not wanting to go to certain places cause they wouldn’t have a lotus based dessert.
It forces restaurants to conform to the horrible trends that surface. Leaving no room for creativity and diserfication of ingredients.
This is just the tip of the big cock of problems with the food industry here.
