Chili’s Kuwait Towers Not Closing Down… For Now

On Friday I had lunch at Chili’s next to the Kuwait Towers since it was meant to be their last day before closing down for good. Chili’s lost the bid for their Kuwait Towers location and so they were having a goodbye week of a sort. When Chili’s opened up on the Gulf Road 20 years ago, there really weren’t that many restaurant options which is why it was an extremely popular place with a long waiting list on weekends.

On Friday Chili’s posted on their instagram account that they would extend their operations for one more day to give more people time to come by for one last time. Something must have happened though since a few moments ago, Chili’s posted on their instagram account that due to a decision by the Ministry, they’re going to remain open until further notice.

Not sure what Ministry decision they’re talking about but if you didn’t have a chance to pass by and say goodbye, you’ve got a bit more time now.

No, it’s just that the tender lasts for 25 years or so… u basically bid for “owning” the property and opening any business for the next 25 years

Whats the big deal, new tenders come in and life goes on, restaurants, shops, hotels, will always be changing, evolving etc etc.. why are people just so sad that some lousy restaurants are closing down and why are people so shocked that Al Shaya will take over most locations. Are peoples lives that empty that so many memories are attached to chilis and lenotre and they have nothing else to relate too.

People are sad because they have childhood memories at the place. Chili’s opened up after I left high school but my equivalent would be fuddruckers which ended up closing down and Johnny rockets in Salmiya. If they decided to close that Johnny location i would feel sad as well. Nostalgia…

True, I care about all 3 locations you mentioned… but i feel if I haven’t been to the restuarant in more than a year I wouldn’t be too sad about it.

Very true Mark. My children grew up playing in the Fudruckers playground while we ate. It was like losing an old friend and one of the first Western casual dining places along the Gulf Road.

I hope all chilli’s resturant closes, because they mistreat their employees and do not give them pay and give them harsh treatment and make them work over 10hours a day with low pay.

All of them will not be closing down, not just chillis until further notice. This is due to a problem and miscommunication between ‘mashro3at al seya7iya’ and ‘dewan al mo7asaba’.

Heard Shayaa won the bit, and they’re opening the following in Place of Chilli’s, Lenotre, Applebees and the AbdulWahab Resturant:-

Moving PF changs from Corniche Location – (going to be the biggest in the world)

Starbucks

Katsuya

not sure what’s the fourth one though..

Likely to be categorized as a heritage site. Good on Kuwait for finally showing appreciation to some of it’s most culturally revolutionary institutions.

I still remember when the classic nachos was about 2 KD at chili’s… Now, I think more like 4.25KD. Still, I think chili’s is the best american restaurant in Kuwait.
