Denny’s coming to Kuwait

dennys

The American chain Denny’s is coming to Kuwait and the Middle East. Their first location is opening next year in UAE followed by locations in the rest of the region. They’re known for serving breakfast, lunch and dinner 24 hours a day so hopefully they won’t be opening up in a mall. [Link]

Denny’s has had a small revival in the states — menu upgrades have helped. Most popular for breakfast but also a good soup and salad place. Now if only someone could convince Dairy Queen to return to Kuwait — surely a market for DQ here. DQ reportedly had a poor operator here previously and doesn’t think the market would be receptive. I think they’re wrong. DQ is one of America’s oldest and favorite franchises. Crazy not to be here.

DQ was one of the first franchises that opened in Kuwait. There was one next to my place in Salmiya in the early 80s. Then they shutdown and reopened again I think in the early 2000s before shutting down again. What we need is A&W to reopen (which also opened and closed twice before).

Would be interesting to know if both A&W and DQ were owned by the same company since they were both open in the 80s before shutting down and reopening again.

I haven’t been to City Center in ages but I believe they had a DQ in there beside the bowling place.

Why? This is low quality food that the poor eat in the states, like IHOP or Red Lobster, and Olive Garden.

BTW I read a business article that the Parent company of Red Lobster, Olive Garden etc is going bankrupt because of falling sales due to declining income of middle class in the US, these companies are expanding overseas as a strategy to save their skins.

While all the restaurants you mentioned are supposed to be on the cheaper side of dine-in restaurants in the US, I don’t think “the poor” can afford to eat there.

They’re more likely to afford something like the Dollar Menu at McDonald’s.

You contradict your statement… one line you say it’s poor people’s food… next line you say that they are going bankrupt coz of declining middle class income??

is he middle class the new Poor?

Ok whoever had the chance to try it in the states, would tell you that the place and the food sucked. Whoever watches family guy and talk shows (like conan) should already know how much they make fun of Denny’s being a really bad choice to dine in.

Plz stop bringing these franchises to Kuwait.. The food sucks. The list is expanding: IHOP, Red Lobster, Olive Garden and now Denny’s.

Did a road trip in July. Denny’s is ubiquitous, even in small towns. It was our go-top place for quick, clean food.
Their food is neither great not trash. It’s decent…and relatively cheap.

Denny’s and Ihop are the drunken food restaurants of choice in the US. You go to a bar or a club or to your friends house, drink profusely, and at 2:30 am, you find yourself at Denny’s or Ihop and the food tastes AMAZING AND FANTASTIC (because your sh&tfaced and you don’t know any better). You sit there eating your pancakes or carbs on a bun with a big grin on your face and everything is good with the world.

… I guess it could happen in Kuwait…. They should open in Julai’ia.

Definitely the “go-to” restaurant at 3 am after the club if you can’t find a Mexican taco stand. I went to Denny’s after my prom. I agree it’s not the best restaurant to come to Kuwait, isn’t IHOP enough? How many Arabs really eat breakfast like they do in the states? I think Haitham is right when he says the restaurants are agreeing to expand to the Middle East to make some money, if it costs $4 in US they will charge 4KD which is a significant mark up.

The good thing about these places is that they are cheap in the states.
but the franchisor in Kuwait will make sure that their prices in Kuwait is much higher than states and on par with quality restaurants.

Ah Denny’s – fond college memories – late night omelette with unlimited refills on coffee.

Then the other memory of the club drunks showing up around 2 AM.

The same Denny’s that settled a class action lawsuit filed by thousands of black customers who had been refused service, forced to wait longer, or pay more than white customers back in the mid-90’s?? NICE!

No “Waffle House” love??

I have seen some strange characters late night there, saw a group of carnies come in and they were literally bartering smokes and candy to see who would pay more of the bill…that’s priceless.

Close to Slider Station, in the area around Parliament. If you go at like 6 there are a lot of people who wake up really early who go. If you go at 5 there are a lot of people who have stayed up until 5 who go šŸ˜›

I say enough of American food franchises already. Kuwait could do with a Naturals (of JVPD fame) ice cream parlor or a Govinda’s by Hare Krishna pure veg restaurant to offset the imbalance and fatty food excesses of Americana.

Kuwait has loads of veg restaurants already, just because they don’t have a franchise name slapped on doesn’t make them less legitimate.
