Eataly Now Open!

The popular Italian restaurant and marketplace Eataly opened up last week at Avenues Phase 4. I dropped by over the weekend and although the place was fairly busy I did manage to get seated after a pretty short wait.

I ordered a pasta which was good but one of our other mains arrived fairly dry and the service was pretty sloppy. But, both those issues are understandable since they’ve just opened up. I was impressed by their gelato though (the mango is soo good) and their small market place had a pretty good variety of products. They even had a cold cuts section which I wasn’t expecting since I thought they would only sell boxed items à la Marks & Spencer.

Prices ranged from around 4KD+ for their pasta with I think the most expensive dish coming in just under 10KD. I still need to go back and try a few things once they settle in. They’re located in Avenues Phase 4 near the Mercedes dealership and for more info you can check them out on instagram @eatalyarabia

Their packed products are pretty good, but their baked goods were the worst! My mom and I tried their selection of focaccia and they were all dry and strong! And my mom felt unwell afterwards. Definitely won’t be buying those types of products from them ever again.

Last year we traveled to Italy and I tried the place there and I was super happy that it opened in Kuwait.
So last friday we went, we had to wait for 10-15 minutes before we got seated.
I tried the salmon salad and ravioli pasta with red sauce. It was super and so the service was very good, the waiters kept asking us if we needed anything .
I will definitely go back 👍👍

To be very honest, this is the worst Italian restaurant I’ve been to. Eataly in Italy is on a whole different level. The service is EXTREMELY awful, the food was below average, the freshly baked pasta is around 8KD per kilo which is CRAZY expensive compared to an Italian lady we buy the fresh pasta from here in Kuwait. Not to mention the sea bass we ordered was sooooo unclean and had a very fishy smell (sorry it’s not the Italian way to cook it). I bet this place is going down the hills soon.

Not visiting again.

Surprised from the comments lol i’ve been to it twice so far and liked it very much except for the calamari.

I just checked and some of them are so will go through them and delete them. I usually check for these things but have been in Qatar since morning and just got back to kuwait now

I liked the market place, although nothing really stood out for me there that much. You can find just as good products from Dean & Deluca. We tried the dessert section only, it was ok and nothing to rave about. We ordered the Panna Cotta dessert, and I didnt find it authentically Italian (and I’ve tasted many versions from various places). I browsed their menu too and there was an insert with a card outlining where their meat and seafood is imported from. While I like the transparancy I find it quite strange that the only Italian fish/meat product was a can of tuna. It would have been better if some were locally-sourced too but I guess its cheaper for them this way. The staff were all over the place but that’s because we visited on their opening day.

Overall, the place itself is pleasant and I can see myself chilling there every now and then. I want to try their pizza and Cannoli pastries which werent available at the time.

Food was average, service was shocking, waited 20 minutes for drinks, starters came before the drinks, one persons main didn’t arrive. Tried to buy some sweets in the store bit and the guy didn’t know anything. Not gonna rush back.

Clearly I wasn’t submitting multiple negative comments as I’ve been reading and responding to your blog for years. I’m not her to spam!.. but I suppose you do understand that sometimes ISP/telecoms assign the same IP to multiple customers?

Yes I do and sorry if I deleted your comment but the post was being spammed by negative comments and they all looked like they were originating from the same ip.

Eataly market place more than the restaurant piques our interest, really. Although it will be unreasonable to compare it with Eataly of Fleet Street, New York it would still be good if it can hold a candle to Dean & Deluca food hall.

These are early days still. I bet Eataly will pull its sox up and be all sorted.

How likely are we to get Fresh Market to Kuwait?

I did not try the food, frankly don’t have high opinion of italian restaurants in Kuwait,
but OMG they have Venchi gelato!
I do hope they will import all the flavors, like lampone/raspberry and all the chocolate…
