Expensive Lettuce and Eggs?

The website The Richest has put together a list of “10 Countries With The Highest Cost Of Food” and Kuwait is featured on that list prominently at #5. It’s the only Arab country on the list and The Richest used lettuce and eggs as an example of expensive food. I actually found that odd since even though imported products (like Coco Puffs or scallops) can be expensive, I never considered local eggs and lettuce expensive at all. Check out the top 10 list [Here]

Lettuce is expensive because it has a very short shelf life, and most of the expenses are in air freight/damages costs.
We do have local versions though. It’s not a necessity to purchase imported lettuce.

I remember watching about this on ‘Food Tech’. It was about iceburg lettuce which has to be processed and make it to the sales floor within 48 hours.

Bull****, lived in the states for a while and eggs were not cheap at all. Notsure on what bases are they considering their numbers, but when it comes to lettuce, yes imported lettuce (american) here in Kuwait are expensive conpared to the locally produced. Organic eggs and lettuce? Yes maybe more expensive.

Sure if you’re buying american lettuce, the local ones are pretty cheap. Local cucumbers are cheaper than anywhere else I’ve ever seen

Actually something tells me this person went to Sultan Center and assumed those are the normal prices, co-ops are not expensive at all and nowhere near 1.5kd a head. Also staples are pretty cheap in Kuwait, they even mention the low price of rice.

Whoever wrote that article has an excellent taste in photography.
