The decision was taken by the Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Protection and Control at the Ministry of Commerce to ban imports because the product contains pig gelatin.
…
The authority stressed the gum products of all kinds are not suitable for people who follow halal food because they contain pig gelatin.

It’s the same reason why we can’t get Lucky Charms and Count Chocula cereal in Kuwait anymore. From what I’ve been told, most gelatin is pig gelatin and if this rule was actually properly enforced, a lot more products would disappear from our supermarket shelves. If you want Ice Breakers you need to stock up on them ASAP before they completely disappear from the market.

oh Count Chocula how I miss you.
Btw its actually much harder to find even in the States nowadays, I think they just tried phasing it out in the past decade.
Its only out during Halloween period every year 🙂
That’s the strategy “General Mills” is following for the past 10 years or so with Count Chocula
I could not find gelatin in the ingredients list. Is it labeled under another name ?
Maybe? Can you share a picture of the ingredients?
Actually found this online, but it has gelatin listed as gelatin in the ingredients https://smartlabel.hersheys.com/00034000008438-0005#ingredients

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religious_restrictions_on_the_consumption_of_pork
“Although Christianity is also an Abrahamic religion, most of its adherents are permitted to consume pork. Since Christianity lost most of its roots from Judaism, Christians are not bound to some restrictions of Mosaic Law. However, Seventh-day Adventists consider pork taboo, along with other foods forbidden by Jewish law. The Eritrean Orthodox Church and the Ethiopian Orthodox Church do not permit pork consumption.”
Why not just sell this in shops for Non-Muslims? 😂
It will hurt Muslims feelings to see non-Muslim shops.
How about simply respect what this country legislate? The entire “hurt Muslims feelings” argument is just absurd to me. You see, Islam is our source of legislation to begin with, so when I see it being disrespected and being taken lightly.. do you think I’ll be fine about it? of course not!
If you’re not starving to death or being abused or something then just don’t complain about such trivial matters.
It is wrong to simply accept legislation. Debate is the tool that ensures the correct things are done. Telling people not to complain is just enforcing what we are comfortable with on them, instead of rationally debating both ideas. We’d have complained if the decision was to allow all pork products on the market, everyone has that right.
The very suggestion that you shouldnt complain until you’re “starving to death or abused or something” is quite absurd.
“The religion of the State is Islam, and the Islamic Shari’a shall be a main
source of legislation.” – Kuwait’s Constitution, Article 2
Although we all know that Kuwait isn’t really applying this article to its utmost extent, but I’ll still use it whenever an argument needs it since it is mentioned in the constitution of the state itself. And according to Shari’a, Haram food can’t be provided for non-Muslims by Muslims, let alone in a country where its constitution states that Islamic Shari’a shall be a main source of legislation. In the same fashion the country prohibits alcohol, it will absolutely prohibits haram food. It’s not a point of debate or discussion. You’ll never make everybody happy my friend, wrap your head around it..
Don’t wanna make everyone happy, all im saying is people should have the right to complain about anything, be it the ban, shari’a being a good/bad way to manage a country, the government, whatever.
Freedom of speech is a basic human right in most countries that are actually doing good.
Suppression of speech is one of the markers a country isn’t doing well
And hey, laws are better be catered to us and not to foreigners SOLELY. Foreigners who want booze and some bacon with their eggs- a more comfortable life in their own accord.. why don’t they consider going to any other GCC country (or any country really) except for Kuwait and KSA (I guess) why bother? Trying to change laws so your stay be a little bit more bearable on our own account.. no thanks. (no disrespect, but this is my version of truth)
Ah, the unique comment. “If you don’t like it here, leave. “
Let me blow your mind with this analogy: you go to a restaurant that is known for its Italian cuisine, and because you checked their menu before you decide giving it a visit, you know that all they serve is Italian food. But when you’re holding their menu, your cravings strike you with having some cheese burgers instead.
Should he stay in this Italian restaurant or simply “leave”?
So yes, if he doesn’t like to have some Italian at the moment, I would totally tell him “If you don’t like it here, leave” and get some cheese burgers!
see what I mean? I don’t get why this response considered very offensive honestly. If my livelihood is dependent on living in Alaska and working there, I will suck it up and bear the cold. If I complain about the cold, and some local Alaskan tell me “move somewhere else if your skin isn’t made for the cold” I would understand. Why would I feel offended? I mean, I’m the one who’s complaining to begin with.
If expats see this blog as their shelter to vent and feel a little less insecure about their issues and voicing their unpopular opinions, then sure, let them say whatever they feel like as long as it’s not BS. But once I see some BS opinions, I’m gonna call it as it is. Nothing wrong with spelling some truth and defend what you stand for.
You see, expats didn’t leave the comfort (or discomfort) of their homes unless they seek making some money OR Kuwait is already way better from where they came from so they’re residing and they’re more than welcome (I blended with few so I have an idea or two about their motives on why they’re residing in Kuwait). So yeah, it’s a bargain. Money for this country’s stone-age-like legislation and scorching weather most of the year.
Since I am Kuwaiti and I love my country therefore I am going to speak and complain about the things that aren’t right. Providing products for non-muslim or non-religious people isn’t just for foreigners, keep in my mind that there many non-muslim Kuwaitis including non-religious Kuwaitis, so why would they abandon this country and go somewhere as if it’s an easy peasy thing to do? Come on man you gotta be realistic a bit. If I am going to talk about legalizing of such stuff I’d spend hours talking about the benefits, but sadly most of my beloved Kuwaitis can’t look beyond and are obsessed with an idle image.
I love how people like you try to enforce your own personal beliefs on others. It really speaks to the ego and self-importance that is rampant in Kuwaiti society.
It’s crazy because religion is so open to interpretation yet everyone pretends like their own interpretation is the absolute truth. On the surface it’s blatantly counter-intuitive, what’s the point of having choices and a “judgement day” if people on this planet are going to make choices for us and pass judgement on us?
This backwards third world country is not going to progress until we absolve ourselves from this archaic way of thinking. It’s actually sad to watch what we’ve become, too proud to see our own glaring flaws. Meanwhile countries around us who used to be the beacon of Islamic law have adapted and progressed while we have too much pride to make changes.
Hamad is essentially the regional version of a “White Nationalist” he’s more than happy to conform to what he’s been taught, never question a thing except the people who question it in front of him. “If you don’t like it go somewhere else!” No Hamad, if you and others like you don’t change and adapt we’ll all get left in the dust.
“[Bu Fahad] is essentially the regional version of a [‘Merica worshipper] he’s more than happy to conform to what he’s [seen in ‘Merica], never question a thing except the people who question it in front of him.”
Ahhhh people who act like there are multiple versions of reality (“truth”???? no such thing!!! it’s all relative!!!!!!) and either you follow their ways and you are “progressive” or don’t follow their ways and suddenly you are “backwards”——my fave people!!!!!! yes!!!!!!
‘Merica is number one THEREFORE we should be like ‘Merica!!! Oh my god what great logic you have there. Boyyyyy do I wish I could make arguments like youuuuuuu. Everybody would listen to my emotional arguments for sureeeeeeee.
Why are you getting your ego all caught up in this dear Bu Fahad????? Why are some random person’s comments on the internet hurting you oh so much????? Oh dear bu fahad oh dear—maybe you should go drink some milk and go to sleep okay baba go to sleep baba
this is only happening cause there is a video going around of some guy that did tests locally to bring awareness to certain products with gelatin from pigs.
Snickers Protein is on the list too
I hope all pig gelatin products are cut out. The sooner, the better Ensha’Allah
THE SOONER, THE BETTER!!! IN-SHA-ALLAH!!!! ALLAHU AKBAR!!!! *BOOM BOOM BOOM*
I could never understand why all these companies don’t use beef gelatin instead. Like why create a product that cannot be enjoyed by Muslims too?
Because pig gelatin is way cheaper that beef one. The goal for any company is to save the most on ingredients.
As a prank i fed pork steak to my Muslim religious friend. He told me it was the best ‘turkey he ever tried. He is still alive and well, not knowing that hell is where he goes in the afterlife.
Such a cheap thing to do and brag about.
You should be pranked into eating sh!t and that will be even more fun
wow, grade A clown right here.
Dick move, but I suppose he is excused from damnation if he ate it not knowing what it was.
He ate it while he’s unaware that it is pork to begin with. So, insha’llah no sin has been committed from his side. On the other hand, you’ll be barbecued to perfection! haha
I just got a box of Lucky Charms today. A store in Salmiya store has them.
Which store??
It is being sold in Al Salam mall, I am assuming in some super market there
I wish they were more stringent of food import ingredients and sources. Im glad there is no pork allowed in Kuwait, you never have to worry to much about ordering food in restaurants.
I really hate to see the cheap Chinese candy in the bakalas that kids are consuming. That country has a horrible record of food safety.
Meanwhile, Kuwait imports products from Ukraine and Poland, and they have a track record of bad food safety too. Also, with your logic, you’re better off eating Vegetarian and Vegan food if you’re so scared of pork 😒
American products are full of preservatives. The most unnatural, processed food in existance.
True, but that is probably why they stay looking so young, that food preserves them too.
yes but only if you go to a pure vegan restaurant, otherwise cross contamination can happens. Good option when traveling !!
