KÖTTBULLAR Meatballs

meatballs

IKEA recently added a freezer to their little food store near the exit and they’re now selling frozen salmon as well as their popular Swedish meatballs, the KÖTTBULLAR. A packet contains 1KG of meatballs and they’re selling it for KD3 which isn’t too bad. For the healthy eaters, an 8oz of frozen salmon is for KD1.750 which is slightly cheaper than the fresh alternative sold at supermarkets.

also i think this freezer has been here for a while. I remember it from the last time i was at IKEA, and that was not too recently.

But this is not the original meat balls, they changed the brand about 5 months ago, now it comes from Saudi Arabia, the original one they used before which made it their famous Meatballs used to come from Sweden

Ikea are not really renowned for their food quality… there are many better places to get fresh and frozen salmon. Meatballs — yuck – the only minced products worth eating are when you can see what is being minced in front of you… the vast majority use all kind of fillers and ugly parts of animals….

good question! The bigger the company is, the more likely the pay attention to these issues to avoid PR issues; take kelogg’s pop tarts for example, our version, which is specifically manufactured in the ME, does not contain pork while the American version does. This is stated on there website and can be confirmed with their customer support.

That said, the only way to be sure is to get an official statement from the company.

Fun trivia: The sultan center imports kelogg’s pop tarts from the states. I don’t know if they still do it because I stopped shopping there.

The problem isn’t with marshmallows or gelatin per se, but with their rather lax attitude when it comes to compliance with islamic principles.

I’m confident in that I walk into a tsc branch and come out with something that is not halal.

TSC is responsible for what it sells. I’m not demanding that they be 100% clean (even though they should), all I ask is that they do there part. at least make an effort to screen the stuff they sell; have a person sit and read the contents of new products and checks with the manufacturers. It’s not that difficult.

If they can’t or refuse to do the bare minimum, they loose me as a customer and a supporter.

I do hope that they get there act together. TSC is otherwise an awesome place to buy stuff.

These are not the original recipe. The original has an additional ingredient that makes the meatballs so much jucier and tasty!

The original IKEA meatballs , or at least the ones sold in the UK, are 30 or 40% pork, according to one of the workers in Birmingham branch. The one sold in their restaurant here in Kuwait are produced in Saudi Arabia if I’m not mistaken, and they taste horrible when compared to the original ones… which I always enjoyed before knowing the ugly truth 🙂
