Kout Way Restaurant

I was going to pass by Kout Way this weekend but Me Blogging beat me to the punch. Kout Way is a new restaurant located on Baghdad Street right next to DoDo and La Baguette. They’re sort of a fast food restaurant but specializing in Kuwaiti dishes like machboos and murabyan.

Me Blogging has some great pictures and a bit more info which you can check out [Here]

Didn’t try it. But apparently great concept and business model that might take local Kuwaiti food into the global scene, if they secceed InshAllah.

I am wondering how big this restaurant is! If not mistaken, this place was an Iranian Baqqala (between falafel dudu and Lulwah bakery) and the Baqqala is barely 3-4 meters wide and 6 meters deep..

The shop was indeed a baqalla, but there were lots of hidden spaces such as a mezzanine and spaces occupied by cabinetry, refrigerators .. It’s still a small clear space at 9 x 4 but good planning helps and made it into a 15 seater restaurant with its own kitchen

i’ve seen one of the pic, the menu for the day is in arabic, do they have it in english?

love eating machboos! what’s a murabyan?

which resto serves the best machboos here in kuwait? any suggestions?

freej Al Swelah next to Max Salmiya! By far the best i have tried for Kuwaiti food! Great ambience, good service, amazing shish tawuk and great chk majhboos! U will love it! Cheers

(P.s: Try the corn salad as well! )

Not really, you miss understood what I was saying. I wasnt talking about food in general, I was talking about the “type of food”.

Kuwaitis for example cant make resturant resturant quality chinese/italian foods.

So why would I want to go to a resturant that has a TYPE OF FOOD (kuwaiti food) that we have nearly every day at home??

Yes I have been there only once since it openned. Acutally I would put the kuwaiti percentage well below 50% for 2 reasons.

First is that there are alot of people that drive all the way from Saudi Arabia to come there on a daily basis.

Secondly, most of the people there are bedwins. Which are hardly considered genuine kuwaitis.

FYI, I have been to many other kuwaiti resturants.

Secondy, what racism?? Read up on Kuwaits history and the movement of bedwins within the Gulf states.

Yes, cause it takes a food scientist to get flavored yogurt from the co-op and slice some fruit and put it on top.

I see your point.

By “we”, you mean 30% percent of the population? Have you seen how many Kuwaitis eat at Kuwaiti food restaurants? loads

In that case, Starbucks is such a bad concept because everybody makes coffee at home.

No true Tizoc. Kuwaitis do not usually go to kuwait resturants, they do however go to lebanese resturants or resturants that serve more than one type of ethnic food.

As for starbucks, not everyone can make coffee like they do. And even if you can, your going for other reasons.

My point is that why would anyone want to go to a resturant that serves food that you eat almost everyday? Keep in mind home made food is usually better for you.

ah so you haven’t been to freej or oum habib before. you’ve also never been to starbucks since you make your own coffee at home. that’s why starbucks is failing, no one is going there.

Honestly, I stopped going after I found out about the Israeli issue, where the company recived several awards from the country. And when word was spreading it was rumored that AL-Shaia spoke with the CEO to close there stores in Israel because it was not worth losing profits in the Arab states.

No, I did research it and it turns out the company did recive those rewards, but they were later removed from Starbucks website. Also you can still see them from people who took screen shots of it.

Actually Mark, Danna is right cuz Howard Schultz was reportedly awarded Military Man of the Year Award from the State of Israel few years ago. In late 2009, one branch of Starbucks in London was pelted once people heard that a percentage of Starbucks’ profits were sent to Israel.

As for the concept of the Kuwaiti fast-food restaurant, I have to applaud the idea because many customers who go to Kuwaiti restaurants are non-Kuwaitis. So, it’s a platform to spread & show the Kuwaiti cuisine. All Kuwaiti restaurants are packed with costumers, which, as you said Mark, indicates the success of the concept of Kuwaiti restaurants.
I agree with Danna on the Starbucks-Israel connection & agree with Mark on the success & brilliance of the Kuwaiti restaurants.

YOu might but lol the rest of us don’t 🙂 so am LOVING THE CONCEPT! and great location if he’s targetting us expats who LOVE Kuwaiti food but dont have access to it!!! YAY FOR KOUT WAY!!! HERE I COME!

Can the good folks over there perhaps try to put up an English friendly menu too.. might go there if I knew what to order..

I came here expecting to read some comments about the quality of food and now we have Kuwaitis who are non-Kuwaitis, border crossing Saudis and award winning Israelis! 🙂

May I suggest the following Kuwaiti restaurants:
Shate’a Al-Watyia (Al-Watyia)
Fereej Swailih (Salmiya)
Zaman Awal (Salmiya)
Beit Dickson (the restaurant, not the museum)
Madheena (Al-Murghab)

The problem is, 50% of the Kuwaiti cuisine is not served in these restaurants. Half of the Kuwaiti sweets are not served either.

Awesome! tried shate’a watiya but the dam place smells of some odd / fould smell/ bad ventilation system despite so may windows. However – Food is good! fISH ITEMS – Mumtaaz!!!

I’ve tried already:

Zaman Awal – this was really good, really really good.
Fareej Swailih – good food, but man parking is a hassle and its always crowded.

There is one opposite the building of Fareej in Salmiya – forgot the name of the restaurant. Its … okay … nothing exciting; at least they have plenty of seating.

Now I know where to go next time with the guys. Thanks!

Kout Way by far is the best Kuwaiti food in town. It’s close to home food not very oily like others and bedtime thing is that they r fast and excellent worm service … plus very clean 😉 I highly recommend … follow them on Twitter and histogram @koutway
