A very popular Lebanese food blogger came to Kuwait as part of his Middle East food tour and guess which restaurants in Kuwait he goes to review? Semsom, Kosebasi, Margherita and the Radisson Blu buffet! Talk about the dumbest things a food blogger can do, you come all the way to Kuwait from Lebanon to review restaurants, and then you go to places that you already have back home? I don’t get it.
A friend on twitter suggested its probably because those places paid him to review them which would make sense and if that is the case that sucks. On the bright side, you can use this video as a reference of where NOT to take guests who are visiting Kuwait, except for Freej Swaileh since that place is legit. The even sadder part is when he asks his local guide if he had a week in Kuwait where he should go, the guide replies saying there are tons of places and then proceeds to mention six of which three are malls. *sigh*
Check out the video on [YouTube]
Note: Just to clarify, I meant worst places as in worst places that represent the local food scene and not worst places as in the worst food.

dont be jealous Mark :p
The video says Kuwait-Part 1, there might be another part..
I love the guy and enjoy his videos about Lebanon, he goes to the hole in the wall places out there.. It seems he got the wrong people to take him around Kuwait, more focused on the atmosphere than focusing on food
I have to disagree, he’s at fault not the people who are taking him around Kuwait. He knows Margherita is a Lebanese pizza franchise so if his guide was like lets go there he should have said umm no dude we have that in Lebanon take me somewhere else.
I agree with u that some of the places shown aren’t unique or aren’t the best.. but it is clear that he is trying to support some of the Lebanese community working in the food industry which is not a wrong thing to do since he is clearly showing that by giving them armbands at the end.. he is not trying to hide his support away from the audience or manipulating anything..
lool what you are saying my friend makes no sense. When you are a food blogger, you travel around the world in search for the perfect cuisine and the perfect restaurant. One shall let all emotions aside and focus on one thing: good food! Your statement, ¨but it is clear that he is trying to support some of the Lebanese community working in the food industry which is not a wrong thing to do¨ does not justify the incident and does not buy me any good. Please 248am readers, engage in critical/logical arguments with good premises. Beware of claims like,¨oooh let me help people from my country or people with similar interests¨ because they will take you nowhere in life. In conclusion, what he did is wrong (even if it was to support his direct family and not only country, for argument´s sake). A similar analogy would be for me to travel around San Francisco and explore Yemeni/Khaleeji restaurants as opposed to the wide array of options available there. Sorry for applying a lot of brute force but you have mentioned some claims that greatly instigated me.
FOR CLARIFICATION:
Beware of claims like,¨oooh let me help people from my country or people with similar interests¨ because they will take you nowhere in life.
I meant such claims (and not the support for people of your country) will take you nowhere in life.
“Worst Places” is pretty harsh. The places he visits are actually pretty famous and people like them; I like some of them myself.
I enjoyed the video.
i didn’t mean it as worst places as in worst food. I meant worst places as in worst places that represent kuwait. you don’t come to review food in kuwait and then visit a Lebanese pizza franchise…
Then you use words like “not the best places to go to ” or “not representative of Kuwait’s food potential” There are real people working hard behind these places, and just because you have the freedom of speech does not mean you use words like “Worst” I suggest you edit and correct the blog out of respect to those restaurants. I’m sure we all agree they are good but not the best or worst.
Read my post
And just to add, I’m at Kosibasi on a daily basis so if I did consider the food to be crap I wouldn’t be there. So like I said read my post, I’m not calling the restaurants the worst I’m calling his choices the worst so don’t take my words out of context.
I’m not. People don’t read your “update” first. They read it last. The title reads “worst” and two lines in the restaurants are listed. Fix the title my friend if your intention is to do it right. You’re a mature blogger. Make a mistake fix it. We supported you in the earlier jap restaurant case, this is just wrong. No offense.
I’m not gonna change the title because you’re too lazy to read the post. I’m not posting for kindergarten students, it’s a short paragraph, next time take 30 seconds and read it all. No offense.
Mark, I read your post title and understood that its the worst places to eat then you wrote the post that the places paid him to visit their places.
The title and the post have nothing in common. The title is a magnet but the post is like “fuck” thats all!
There is no way I’m gonna please everyone no matter what
MARK WHY EVEN BOTHER REPLYING???!
Chill out bro. Lol. I have time to remove the stick out of your ass.
My god how stupid of you James to say such a thing! I can´t believe you are actually saying this. I don´t even want to start with you. All I have to say is go educate yourself my friend and familiarize yourself with the basis of arguments. Mark thanks for having to put up with people like this.
Your just mad that he did not call you.. 🙂
He should have!
clearly he should have called me, I would have taken him to Cheesecake Factory, PF Changs, Leila and McDonalds instead.
Guy missed out on all them interesting hole in the wall + off the beaten path restaurants that you would have probably shown him. His loss.
Any intelligent person would question his credibility after watching the video.
Im trying to imagine the look on Anthony Bourdain’s face when he found out he was been taken to cheescake factory.. LOL
I really find your article is coming out from a personal problem with this guy, or an issue you have because I watched the video am not from kuwait and I had a nice experience, having the mosque and many types of food places, and this guy videos is about passing on the lebanese restaurant and checking how the lebanese people are doing in the food market, I find the video very nice and easy and I didn’t notice it before, so thank you for sharing it and try to see life in a better way my friend better for you and your readers and followers.
No personal issues with the guy, I’ve never met him and I’m actually a fan of his blog or else I wouldn’t have shared his video and given him publicty. I’m just disappointed with what he chose to review in Kuwait and as someone not living in Kuwait you wouldn’t understand why the places he chose don’t make any sense.
did you try getting in touch with him and highlighting this issue to his attention? maybe you could collaborate together next time
Yeah I contacted him as soon as I watched the video but I think he’s traveling now so he probably hasn’t see it
I would agree ..the questioning his credibility part was way too harsh.
If I had done this video would you not have questioned my credibility? Of course you would have, you would have been the first person to throw me under the bus!
Mark you should be making something similar but for the whole of GCC you would smash it
i’m not good on film as this guy is, he’s wayyy more charismatic
I think people are missing the point of this post.
This guy comes to Kuwait and instead of going to places that are local, goes to franchises that aren’t unique to Kuwait. So what was the point of his visit?
Mark, is he aware of your blog? Cause if he is, it’s surprising that he didn’t attempt to contact you. You would have given him the inside track on the food scene in Kuwait.
I thought he did since we follow each other on Zomato but I’m now guessing either he doesn’t or he was here strictly to promote certain businesses and then leave.
Sounds like that’s what happened given his profile
What would be your 5 restaurants to take a person to show off the local food scene?
It would really depend on what that person I would be taking is looking for, for example shimim is a great place to take someone but I wouldn’t consider it a top 5 restaurant in kuwait. So if u were making a list of restaurants to take visitors it would be different from the list of top 5 restaurants.
Ok so he’s a blogger like Mark and their blogs are both driven partly by financial interests. So I’m taking your second suggestion/possibility that he was paid. Again we don’t know that he hasn’t been to other places – its just that its not on his video or blog. Kuwait is the food capital of the GCC, I am yet to find the same level and range of food in Dubai even. Take Japanese food, you’d have to go to the Armani to beat the food you get at Katsuya or Wasabi. Its his loss if he hasn’t tasted at other restaurants here.
Mark step in and fill the void.
This post would be like some food critic from New York, coming to Kuwait – and ends up reviewing Shake Shack or Five Guys.
I am sure his trip was paid for or somehow sponsored by these places.
Eddy:
1. Freej
2. Mubarikiya
3. Local franchises (like B&F, Slider, China Garden, OFK, Choowy Goowy, etc.)
Kuwait is a hot country so malls make sence! Like Lebanon is heaven, Beirut is the capital of Garbage, Prostitutes in the streets like movies from the 80’s Be grateful & Count your blessings that you are in Kuwait instead of whining and bashing at the first aprrtunety.
So wait a second just to be clear here.
I’m Lebanese and I’m saying there is more to Kuwait than malls
You’re Kuwaiti and you’re upset at me because I think there is more to Kuwait than malls?
I complimented Kuwait you idiot!
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t
Apprtunety
Careful dude, doesnt take much to sue someone nowadays.
But yea.. lol
You bash Kuwait in every chance you get, You never congratulate people on Eid or Ramadan in your blog, And last I’m a Pakistani born in Kuwait you idiot!
do you greet Christians “Merry Christmas” and/or even “Happy Valentine’s Day” (to name a few)?
Show me where I bash Kuwait
If you don’t like what he posts, why are you reading it? You are literally criticizing him for not sending out a whatsapp broadcast message on his blog.
Am a Pakistani born in Kuwait// Typical patronizing shit!
Why does he have to wish anyone on any occasion for that matter?
Problem with idiots like you is that you suck up incessantly!!
Obvious marketing ploy.
Not sure why everyone lamenting mark has their butt hurt…
