Singa Pura – Singaporean Food in Kuwait

Singa Pura is a new Singaporean restaurant that just opened up last week. I think it’s the first ever Singaporean restaurant in Kuwait since I don’t recall there ever being one. I actually had never had Singaporean food before, nor did I know what to expect so I was very curious to try them out. Now that I have, I think the best way to describe Singaporean food is that it lies somewhere between Thai and Indian cuisine, but closer to Thai which makes sense since they’re near each other.

Although Singa Pura just opened, they’ve actually been around for a while in the form of a home catering business. They still have their catering business active so if you don’t want to visit the restaurant you can also do that.

When I passed by Singa Pura for lunch it was pre-opening and so we didn’t have access to the full menu or final prices. But, I’ll be passing by again soon and once I do I will update this post with their menu. For now, if you’re interested in checking them out they’re located in the basement of Dasman Complex in the city. Here is their location on Google Maps and they’re on instagram @singapurakw

Finally! Singaporean food is the bee’s knees! It’s delicious.

Singaporean cuisine is similar to Thai cuisine but because a sizable number of Singapore’s population is Indian (esp. Tamils), there’s a lot of Indian influence in their food.

Yes! I actually wrote that in my first draft of my post and then edited out the Indian cuisine part since I thought maybe it’s just me and I could be wrong. Just added it back!

Singapore is actually made up of Indian, Chinese and Malaysian communities. So much of their food is influenced by those. I honestly never heard of Thai being part of it.

Thanks for this post Mark. My wife is from S’pore and has always given me a hard time complaining there are no S’pore cuisines in Kuwait. Will wait for full menu before our visit though.

Singaporean cuisine actually is NOT similar to Thai cuisine at all, it is a unique cuisine in the region and Singapore is a big foodie destination. The range is broad, bringing together various Chinese cuisines such as Hainanese, Hokkien, Teo Chiu etc blended with Malay and Peranakan and a touch of south Indian here and there.
I haven’t tried the restaurant but am keen to.

Well I suppose if you consider Dutch cuisine and French cuisine similar, then you could say that

The Singaporean chilly crab is to die for!
Too bad we yet don’t have a dedicated crab and lobster place here on the lines of Santa Monica’s ‘Lobster’ or Colombo’s Ministry of Crab and no, Red Lobster doesn’t come anywhere close.

Ministry of Crab is my go to place every time I am in Colombo. . Oyster shots followed by Spicy Mud Crab and Tiger Beer .. Love that place
