The strangest stuff I’ve eaten in Japan so far

By strange I mean borderline gross. Click on the link below to see all the pictures along with their descriptions.

I went to a bugs festival where we got to try a bunch of bugs. Surprisingly tasted a lot better than they looked. Not very gross to eat except for the ones that are crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside.

This is actually a beverage. Giant water bug with vodka and lemon. Bug not meant to be eaten just added in for flavor.

Cod sperm. Voted #6 worst food in the world by AskMen. Personally didn’t find it THAT gross. Ate three pieces.

Grilled squid innards and liver. Tastes A LOT better than it looks.

Taro potatoes with raw egg and soya. The potatoes were slimy and it was my first time having raw egg. Again it tasted better than it looked.

Raw octopus on a squid. The grossest thing I’ve eaten from everything here.

Please please please visit an Izakaya! Dont go to the fancy ones… the small time mama papa type Izakaya’s are the real deal.

I think it was NatGeo that listed as #1 grossest food live octopus in Japan. They wrap it around a chopstick and chew it to death…if you swallow before it’s dead, it can get trapped in your throat.

Now that’s unique!!!! You want to be a part of a unique club of food enthusiasts ?? Start a restaurant that serves that kind of food here in Kuwait and lets see how many people other than South East Asians some daring Arabs & citizens from the Sub Continent are willing to walk in there and have a full meal !!

Way to go Mark; you sir are now truly a world traveler with a gut to prove it πŸ˜‰

My Kuwaiti Partner and best friend just commented next to me… his words.. Shinhooo??? What the FUCK?? Are FUCKING nuts?? Lol.. And he has a Masters from Stanford and has apparently lived in the real world ..LOL

I am presently ROFL with tears in my eyes πŸ™‚

it is a matter of time before bugs and other ‘exotic’ foods become mainstream as the current sources of food & nutrition continue to get scarce/expensive as the population grows..

First of all way to go, it takes gut to try this kind of a menu. I too enjoy experimenting with various cuisines and exotic dishes, but I do draw the line when it comes to bugs, reptiles, or animals I could have as pets.

Bugs, WTF ? Seriously so ugly toilet-ish bugs & raw octopus ? eeeew… You should try Fear Factor, you’ll certainly win it.
