Wendy’s Opening in Salmiya

wendys

Last year Alghanim Industries acquired the rights to develop Wendy’s restaurants across the Middle East and it looks like their flagship store in Kuwait is going to be located in Salmiya on Plajat Street. They’ve taken over the site of a defunct food complex and I’m assuming they’re going to be knocking it down and building a large Wendy’s in its place. No idea on when they’re expected to open but I’d guess sometime end of the year or early next year.

i really want more local brands to pop up, maybe one of the big cheeses could sponsor such a business, instead of just copy pasting from the outside

Well not sure if you’re aware but we already have like a million local burger joints, the market is over saturated as it already is. But in regards to your second point, why would a “big cheese” want to sponsor another business?

If Alghanim wanted to they could open up their own locally created burger joint but I don’t think that’s what they care about. They’re building a food business portfolio and they’ve got Costa and Wendy’s so far.

In any case Alghanim is a business and the aim of a business is to make money so by getting the rights to Wendy’s I’m assuming they’ve done their calculations and realized they could make a lot of money with it. I don’t think it would make business sense to “sponsor” another business.

We do have a million burger joints but hardly any of them cater to the niche that Wendy’s/DQ/McD’s/BK caters to. Wendy’s is big money because its target market is broad and it does what it does well. Im betting that Burger Boutique or any other local restaurant are more than willing to franchise their stores to the big cheeses (not sponsor) maybe even allow an investor to become a major stock holder, but the fact remains that most of them are novelty stores with a much smaller target market than fast food burger restaurants. Not to mention that the local culture equates franchising directly with MASTER franchising, and to have a local restaurants with more than one “big cheese/hamoor” at the helm would be a cultural faux pas.

The one branded local business off the top of my head that would fit this bill would be Herfy, and thats Saudi even.

That’s a cursed location. Although very accessible and has a nice view, people just don’t go. The 6 restaurants that were there would go a whole week or more without 1 single patron.

Well the previous businesses that were there did horribly I agree but is that because of the location or because of the terrible marketing? Do you or anyone else remember or know what any of those places were called? If you asked 100 people maybe you’d have 1 person who knew and that person probably owned the place.

Many businesses don’t spend on marketing and just expect a place to work based on word of mouth or luck.

Note: I would assume a Wendy’s in a mall would get a lot more foot traffic then this location and probably cost them a lot less. But, this looks like it will be their flagship store based on the size and flagship stores tend to have a more important role then just being profitable.

You can tell that this is a vanity purchase by Alghanim Industries with their choice of this location. No doubt it will be profitable if run well.

Which begs the question, who owns the Wendys franchise in Dubai?

We are expecting to open early November this year! More exciting news comming up as well on that location 🙂

Wendy’s Hamburger is my number one favorite burger in the Philippines. I’m former Wendy’s service crew and I’m willing to work in Kuwait if i given a chance 😊

Wendy’s

Guys you made me wait a pretty long time for getting a burger. The fries I ” Paid” for looked like yesterday’s leftover ( very bad ). It was strange to see the store packed on a weekday evening ( it was clearly filled with AlGhanim staff) , so me the real customer had to wait 20 mins to order to ensure the whole ” we are the happening burger joint ” concept hits home…. Seriously guys , your marketing department needs to do a bit better then just fill the place with employees ..

Burger was average at best

Great ambiance

Good look and feel

But honestly I just wanted a quick bite that ended up taking one half of a football match – 45 mins

All the best guys
