Xocolat Handmade Chocolates

xocolat

I can’t remember the last time I posted about a home business but something about Xocolat caught my attention. Maybe it was the packaging or all the mouth watering shots in their instagram account but I had been meaning to try them out for awhile now and I finally got to do so at the last Qout Market.

Xocolat was created in 2013 by Sarah AlHajji, a graduate of the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school in London. She got into handcrafted, artisan chocolate because she saw chocolate as a platform for experimenting with new flavors and she wanted to pass on these flavors to her customers. Xocolat is pronounced sho-ko-laht and comes from the ancient aztec language of nahuatl. The word Xocolat translates to “bitter water”, because pure chocolate has a very bitter flavor profile.

Sarah makes the chocoaltes herself with a bit of help from her husband who also takes care of the business and marketing side of Xocolat. If you’re interested in trying her chocolates she’s usually selling them at Qout Market but you could also order them by calling 98771742. As I mentioned earlier, her instagram account is filled with mouth watering shots but she also shares a lot of behind the scenes photos of her making the chocolates. It’s pretty interesting to see so make sure you check out the instagram account @xocolat_kw

Lindt is not premium!!! ask your friends at Xocolat and they will tell it is. besides Lindt and twix, cadbury are not competitors.
thats my business field we are talking about so i might edge you on this one.

my whole point is there is no reason for it to be that expensive specially if its operated from home which they dont have additional costs other business have

So because it’s a home business it should be cheaper than a twix bar or priced similarly? I don’t understand the logic. So it’s not important the kind of chocolate and ingredients they use or the amount of work put into it, what the price should be based on is a comparison to mass produced poor quality chocolate you can buy from your coop?

Considering that it’s a home business and probably unlicensed it should be cheaper, they could be lacing this stuff with crack (which would actually justify the crazy price of 2KD per bar).

So you’re saying she should use poorer quality ingredients so she could lower her prices? Because I don’t think she’s doing this for the money, I think she would rather keep her prices high and use the best available ingredients possible.

twix bar costs 150 fils and we are not saying it should cost the same but something reasonable even if its a top chocolate ingrediant no way a 50g or 60g bar cost 2kd the business will not evolve

French Valrhona raw chcolate cost 5kd per kg

Belgium Callebaut raw chocolate cost 3kd kg

ofcourse those are TOP premium products that chefs die for. you do the maths again 2kd is way expensive

I don’t think her chocolate bars involve taking a kg of chocolate and then dividing them up into pieces and sell each for 2kd… So you obviously didn’t do the maths or get the product.

well clearly she melts the raw chocolate into moulds with other ingredients as shown in the flippin photos. You are making me sound like I’m dissing their product in sure it taste good but it just too expensive

Not gonna argue with you about the Lindt.
But this is hand made choco and like it or not is`t always going to be more expensive than the industrial one.
A lot of other things in this world are really more expensive than they should, take the different brands of bottled water that sell you “oxigenized” water, BS, and still people are buying into it.
This is a hand made piece of delicacy, made with passion.
I`ll pay for the passion and time put into it.

Why do you think Lindt is premium? Is it because a bar of cadbury costs 200fils while a bar of Lindt costs 800fils? If you consider Lindt premium then what would you consider Godiva or Pierre Marcolini?

No disrespect but you clearly don’t know what you’re talking about here. You didn’t even care to ask what kind of chocolates or ingredients they’re using yet you say this is your “business field”.

Mark, I wouldn’t debate with these people. They feel entitled to throw their two cents in even when they haven’t the faintest idea what they’re talking about.

I run into people like this all the time, people who find absolutely no difference between different brands of chocolate. They’re the same kind of people who find no difference between a McDonalds and a Laduree.

Debating with them is a total waste of energy.

Side note: Pierre Marcolini isn’t my cup of tea, I prefer a nice 70% Perugina bar or Max Brenner or Equal Exchange’s dark chocolates (Go Fairtrade!) But the best chocolates in the world come from Brussels and Bruge’s small chocolateries.

i think you had no idea when you compared twix to lindt.
godiva is one the main competitors to lindt globally not sales wise but in quality material again ask Xocolat for more knowledge on that
Yes mark this my field we provide most if not all 5* hotels restaurants in the country and some GCC countries with chocolate and sweet confectionery raw materials

Ok let’s play your game. Lindt sells for 850-1.250 correct? And it’s a mass produced item. But she doesn’t mass produce, she does everything herself using better ingredients. Why should she be priced the same for a better and fresher product?

i would also like to add that home based businesses do not benefit from economies of scale as compared to companies that mass produce chocolate, in turn enabling them to lower their production costs (lower prices). not to mention that most of the mass produced products are made by machines simply because of the efficiency and the significantly higher output.

these chocolates are hand made, im assuming by one single person. who sources high quality ingredients for her product. and doesnt share the benefits that most major corporates do.

the same principal applies to hand made clothing, jewelry etc etc. it costs more and takes more effort to produce these things, hence the price. theres a reason people pay more money for those.

cant wait to try her chocolate, it looks delicious!

Thank you so much for the post! We’re really proud to be featured here especially given the fact that we are a home business.

you make it sound like something made by a domestic worker would be inferior simply because of their profession… careful, kid. your bigotry is showing.

I tried the dark chocolate with almond once… Finished the whole bar in 5min. So good.

Wish I could buy in bulk and without the fancy packaging to make it cheaper.

Yes, it’s too expensive and don’t think I will ever buy this. But the people who complain about the price, your complaining will not lower the price, because there are people who will buy this no matter what the price is. So, spare yourself the headache, ignore the product and move on with your life.

yeah not when you’re kuwaiti or white in kuwait.. which you know – are not significant populations in the world other than in their purchasing power

Lol, Anyone who thinks 2KD is expensive, needs to pay Godiva a visit. I always buy my dark chocolate bars from them.
If I bought Lindt instead, In 2016 alone I would’ve saved enough to buy a couple of PS4 games. 😛

P.S. @Sarah, hoping to pick up a few packs from you in the upcoming Quot market. Hope you’re there.

Thanks for the post mark!!. Do you know where can we get callebaut coverture chocolate and baking chocolate in kuwait?
