Al Shaheed Park Phase II

alshaheed2

Construction of Phase II of Al Shaheed Park started in February and is expected to be completed before summer of next year. The new phase will be more than just a park and include the following: A Parkour area, a miniature new Kuwait, a miniature old Kuwait, a multipurpose youth complex, tree top climbing obstacles, board and interactive games area, an open air performance center and a skate park.

If you drive by Al Shaheed you can spot the area under construction, it’s located between where Al Shaheed Park is right now and Discovery Mall. If it’s anything like Phase I then we should be in for a treat. Check out the higher resolution version of the map above [Here]

Nothing, it just feels like they’re not really listening to what people want. So many people want a dog-friendly park or at least a small area for their dogs to play. I have a feeling there will be very few parkour performers using this space.

I don’t think it’s them listening to what people want becaue most of what people want is there… Maybe they aren’t making what u want.

Shaheed Park is the absolute best thing Kuwait has done in years and is indicative of the immense potential that this country is capable of. Here is hoping for much more to come.

God Bless.

Last week we had been to Shaheed Park but found the large musical fountains not working anymore. Upon enquiring somebody said that the contract has not been renewed. Wonder if they are going to restart that at all. It used to make the experience in the evenings really so much more pleasant!

as long as its in loyac hands, it should be good

in Kuwait we have many awesome projects, problem occurs when its a gov entity that run’s the place

I’ve heard that the full masterplan for Shaheed Park comprises multiple phases which will see it run all the way from its current location down the First Ring Road until the Sheikh Jaber Al Ahmad Cultural Center [Opera House] to form a massive, interconnected green belt. This plan includes tearing down the Ice Skating Rink and removing the Musical Fountains and although nothing has been said yet about what the rest of the development will entail, it’ll most likely include lots of parking for traffic-choked downtown, acres of much-needed green space and more civic facilities to engage the public based on what we’ve seen happen with the current park and the new phase.

Seeing that Phase 2 is already taking Shaheed Park beyond its current/historical border, this masterplan could very well happen. If they find a way to retain/renovate the Ice Skating Rink, redo the fountains and somehow integrate Discovery Mall into the overall design, this green belt would be an absolute boon for the city.

Finally! get rid of that shitty old rink and if possible make a newer better one.

The ice skating rink is probably one of the nicest structures in the city and would be a shame to demolish it. If anything they should demolish discovery mall, that building looks like a coop

I don’t know man, Mashrouat siy7ya projects are in a sad state and need a major facelift. Thankfully I’ve heard that they’re going to renovate all of their projects even the old ruined fahaheel yacht club, Hopefully they do.

Found the link, Apparently they have given TEC 2 billion for the renovation:

Great project. But seriously a miniature new Kuwait and a miniature old Kuwait is ridiculous. Football/basketball/volleyball field would make more sense. Rollerblading and skateboarding ramps make more sense. Even Lacrosse would make more sense than having a miniature old/new Kuwait.

Will there be canoes in that lake?

Mini Kuwait is going to be similar to Mini Europe in Brussels. That would be fantastic!

Finally, somewhere to show first time visitors to Kuwait around outside of the Kuwait Towers DAI and Sedu House. Can only be a good thing.
Has echoes of Mushrif Park of Dubai to it. Now if only the upkeep of all public facilities and parks is outsourced to the municipalities of Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Masqat, Kuwait would appear a wholly nicer place.
