Bayt Lothan is Gone

Bayt Lothan, the community center that became an important part of the local culture scene was completely demolished over the weekend. Bayt Lothan closed down around 2 years ago and then earlier this year it was partly demolished. Now the whole building has been razed to the ground.

Bayt Lothan was considered by many a historic building and at one point in time used to house Sheikh Sabah Al Salim, the former Amir of Kuwait.

This is really sad, and it highlights how important it is to continuously support independent non-profit NGO’s by visiting/taking classes/holding events there, etc.

At the end of its life, Bayt Lothan didn’t have enough visitors or events that could sustain it, and the private sector/government didn’t offer to preserve it.

So sad, and a hard lesson to learn.

So sad…that’s the scene from my balcony…wondering what they are replacing with. Will I still be able to enjoy the view of Kuwait’s skyline, or am I going to look at another concrete block?

Good riddance! Acts of sin used to take place here. I am so thankful this den of vice and immorality no longer exists. Did you know this center for moral degeneracy used to host community events that brought people together through activities such as music, art, and discussions? To top it all off, these illicit activities were conducted in a mixed crowd atmosphere!!! Thankfully all future generations will never have to be exposed to such pressing social dangers. I hope that whatever is built in its place is more aligned with our society’s ultra-conservative, hyper-capitalistic/material inclinations, which, by the way, are totally compatible with one another.

Actually, without places like this. You can definetly guarantee that your kids will want to pop pills and or do other drugs since there is no art or hobbies for them to partake in.

Knocking down Bayt Lothan is as crazy as razing Marble Arch or Nelsons column to the ground. A colossal tragedy by any count!

I was there on Monday taking pictures of the old houses that are next to it, I think they will be demolished next. I’m glad I got some photos of Bayt Lothan before they tore it down. I was telling my mom about it and as I looked around I realized it was gone and there’s an empty lot. What will they build? Some more restaurants? A giant hotel that will be left empty because no one comes to Kuwait? One day I will publish a book with pictures of the old houses I’ve explored, at least my kids can look back on them and see how Kuwait used to be.

I take my kids to visit the old houses and explain to them how they were built so they will have some idea of what it was like without having to visit a museum, soon the past will be completely erased.
