Cultural Centre is on Fire

Damn.

Update: Here is a video, looks like it could be just the roof.

For more videos, I’m retweeting a bunch on my twitter account @mark248am

Update2: Looks like fire is out and was only exterior superficial damage to one of the four main structures which hadn’t opened yet. The main theater building wasn’t affected.

Update3: Below is a video from inside the building that was on fire. As you can see there doesn’t look like there was any interior damage.

Update4: I drove by the cultural centre an hour ago and there were like 50 workers on the roof already working on it.

So sad, but why isn’t this modern place built with fire suppression systems within.

Completely off topic; how come 2 step authentication doesn’t work on Zain (possibly other carriers). Neither Apple nor Google can send me an SMS message or even call me for an Automated verification. Who is behind this and why?

True, I guess you can’t build a fire suppression system for that kind of fire.

I imagine they might have been using that dangerous Chinese exterior cladding that has caused a few high profile fires in Dubai.

Nope, the building doesn’t use Alucobond, the exterior is made from Titanium which costs a shitload more than Alucobond and is a ridiculously strong light metal used a lot in the aerospace industry.

Every time I have passed there in the last couple of months, I’ve seen at least 10 and sometimes 20 or more workers carrying out repairs to that roof; so I don’t think this will come as a major surprise to the contractors.

The fire was caused by exterior maintenance and parts assembly, no major damage and no one was hurt

All events are not affected

No it doesn’t, the shap at the edges is sorta similar (not really similar tbh) and they are both grey, the interiors are incomparable. That’s like saying the cctv head quarters is a copy of La Défense because they are both empty in the centre, even though they are completely different.

The exterior cladding was supposed to be Titanium, but I don’t think that’s the case anymore.Heard its Alucobond.
