Kuwait, the fattest country in the world… forever

fat

According to the latest Food Security Index, Kuwait is the fattest country in the world coming in first place. This isn’t a shock really since Kuwait has been scoring high on the fat chart for years now but I don’t think it’s fair this time around. Although the 2014 Food Security Index was recently released, the data on world wide obesity is from 2008!

I personally believe a lot has changed since then and as a nation we are no longer as obese as we once used to be. But, news sites have already started referring to this chart and Kuwait is back in the news again as the fattest country in the world.

Is that your professional opinion?

This is the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION. Not statistics quoted from a jimmy Fallon episode.
You IF you want to convince people, you should probably come up with a fake and more credible name.

This is 2014, it’s not 2008 anymore

Why use a really old scientific study that’s nearly 7 years old??

It doesn’t matter that it’s the WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION, it’s still 2008

This information is from 2008 so why is the the title here: Kuwait, the fattest country in the world… forever

2008 was nearly 7 years ago

Huge differences between Kuwait and the rest.

I kinda agree with @Kuwait but I never went to the U.S but I do know that the U.S has like 2 or 3 states that has the a biggest % of the fastest people in the world.

I visited most of the mid-west and western states and I was really struggling to figure out why Americans are rated as fattest nation.

Then I visited Orlando.

Where are these fat people? hiding?
All I see in Avenues is buff guys (who seemed to have just stepped out from the gym), and skinny girls.

Really? I rarely see any fat people

I go to the Avenues four times every week, sometimes five

Where are all the fat people hiding???

Even when I was in high school (I went to a public school / government school), the girls were always skinny. There weren’t any obese girls at my high school or previous schools. I graduated high school in 2012, so I don’t think that things have changed that much in 2 years

There are many plus-size clothing stores in the USA, Kuwait doesn’t have many plus-size clothing stores – which indicates that the majority of Kuwaitis aren’t obese

I really doubt that Kuwait is number 1 in obesity and are they counting the expats? Because expats are 70%-80% of Kuwait’s total population

80% of Saudi Arabia’s population consists of Saudis so it would make sense if Saudi Arabia was number 1 in obesity.

2008 was a really long time ago.

therichest.com isn’t a reliable source, it’s not from a legitimate scientific study carried out in the year 2014

Personally I have seen a lot more people losing weight than when I first got here. Granted that is not a scientific study so I cannot actually say if what I have seen reflects reality. I think it is sad that BOTH Kuwait and the US are so high up on this list. Kuwait because it is such a small country and the US because it has such a dense population. I was reading a reauters article and it mentioned that according to two different studies, the US has a rate of between a third and just over two thirds of obesity : https://www.reuters.com/article/2014/09/04/us-health-obesity-idUSKBN0GZ1D420140904 . Just how many millions are obese in the US. As for Kuwait, if it has a citizen population of about a million and almost half of that is obese… that is also sad. Still. I would like to see an up to date study for Kuwait.

Its in fashion nowadays for people to loose weight. I don’t know how those studies are conducted, but given the way people are loosing weight I’d say only adults are able to loose weight while younger people continue to gain weight.

The rational for that is simple… Kuwaitis have over come the healthy food diet care hype and now are cutting their stomachs to loose weight. At my work place every obese person have done that surgery. Everyone lost weight except for two people in the whole place! Those two people are the last to have this surgery.

The other slightly overweighted people are fitting their stomachs with balloons that restrict the amount of food they can consume. Usually its a temporary procedure and the balloon is removed after they reach the weight they want. Many of those fashionesta girls on instagram are doing it and making it very popular.

The kids however, are still too young for this kind of surgeries so they continue to gain weight.

Well,at least Kuwait is on top -somewhere. And mind you..they have worked very hard, and spent a lot of money in restaurants, and on junk foods and soft drinks..to get where they are today.
And oh!! not to forget …its so hard to find the closest parking spots. 🙂 They are pros at that too .

Kuwait is also number 1 in scientific research per capita in the Arab world

and Kuwait is number 2 in patents in the Arab world (after KSA)

we’re miles ahead of Egypt and the UAE in patents

Kuwait is amazing at making plans for sure. It just fails at executing them. They can get a huge mall built so fast but can’t repair roads, build a metro or make up their mind about the Airport….

Patents isn’t making plans

Kuwait is doing well in scientific research and scientific output, this has nothing to do with ‘making plans’ and not fixing them

Kuwait experienced a political crisis for 6 consecutive years because the Parliament and Government were in a deadlock. The hostile relationship between the Parliament and Government prevented the implementation of Kuwait’s development plan for the past 6 years. The other GCC states don’t have any semblance of democracy, therefore they can implement their development plans very quickly. Unlike the UAE, Kuwait isn’t a dictatorship so we have to deal with the Parliament first and then we can implement the development plan.

You should try understanding how Kuwait’s political system works

That’s not something new and I’m not surprised..machboos, gaboo6, 5bz irani, bryani, etc. ( and I can go on) I’m not gonna be surprised if they say they eat those fatty dishes for breakfast too! I know people who do.

Also, there are many junk food places and most people like to eat outside..

That’s really sad. People should start spreading health and nutrition awareness because lots of people don’t know what they’re doing to their body. And that’s why many people here suffer from cholesterol, blocked arteries, etc.

Dunno why people are getting so defensive. First step is admitting there’s a problem 🙂

As to “where are all the fat people”… Abayas and Dishdashas hide your weight very well.

YOU… I’ve got a bone to pick with you.

When I say the towers are an eyesore, it isn’t because they were built by foreigners. it’s because, while it is used as a symbol for Kuwait, we have contributed nothing to its existence. The exact same towers might have will been built somewhere else and still turn out the same way it did.

There is nothing special about the towers that says that this buildings truly represents us. They’re just some buildings we payed someone else to build for us.

To me it’s like some unemployed looser being proud of the new Ferrari his dad bought him.

.

Have I got the same aaa as the towers post, or do I owe you an apology?

No, same person, we just disagree. Like I said before the Statue of Liberty was built in France but today the image of her face is a huge symbol for the US. Should the Egyptians stop using the Pyramids as their symbols? The “Egyptians” 5000 years ago who built the things are absolutely not the same Egyptians that live there today, but nobody will dispute that Pyramids are representative of Egypt.

Kuwait could be on the top of the list, because Kuwait collects and has more statistics which were submitted to World Health Organization

The other countries might not have enough data, which is why they fall below Kuwait.

I’m not buying the claim that Kuwait has more obese people as a % than the USA.

70%-80% of Kuwait’s population are expatriates, the World Health Organization’s obesity data doesn’t differentiate between nationals and expatriates

So what the World Health Organization is trying to say is: 43% of Kuwait’s TOTAL population is obese (including expats)

I mean, i went from 120 kilograms to 65 kilograms in a year and a few months (may 2013-now)
So how do i take into effect of this chart? Maybe there were 100s of people who lost weight at around the same time! I think these charts are subject to factual discrepancies because they rely more on patterns and ethnocentric data rather than pure hard facts.

I’ve been meaning to try out your restaurant for quite some time now. I don’t know why I never got around to it.

I’m always on Tripadvisor (it really helps when you go to exotic countries) and your restaurant is always at the top in Kuwait!

Just a thought.
Kuwait could be on the top of the list, because Kuwait collects and has more statistics which were submitted to WHO.
The others might not have enough data and they fall way below (or above) Kuwait.

ah…statistics.. “Statistics are like a bikini. What they reveal is suggestive, but what they conceal is vital.”
