Guide: How to update your Civil ID’s name to match your passport’s

Recently a decision was made to cancel the use of residency stickers inside passports. Instead, you’ll need to have a valid Civil ID card when traveling as a means of verifying your residency. The name on the Civil ID card has to match your name in your passport or you’ll risk being denied travel in or out of Kuwait. Having weird spellings or incorrect data on the Civil ID is pretty common, so if your info doesn’t match your passport, you now have to fix it. Yesterday someone on Reddit posted the steps below on how to go about doing this:

Step 1) Go to the PACI eEnvelope system website, if the website is in Arabic you can change the language to English, there’s an option at the top of the page

Step 2) Click on non-Kuwaiti Renewal

Step 3) Enter your Civil ID and serial no. which is shown on the back

Step 4) You’ll have to verify your mobile no. so they’ll send you a verification SMS

Step 5) Enter all data required (blood type is optional but if that needs changing too then you’ll need to also upload a lab report)

Step 6) Upload the required documents

Step 7) You’ll be sent an application’s reference number to your registered mobile no., which you can use to track your application’s progress

Step 8) Wait and wait, this will take a few days as your application needs to be checked manually, once it’s approved you’ll be sent a link on your mobile to make the payment of KD5, after that you’ll just go have to go to South Surra to replace your old ID with the new one

Thanks Stafa!

Please find steps to update your latin name on civil id online in PACI website

Step 1) Go to the PACI eEnvelope system website , if the website is in Arabic you can change the language to English, there’s an option at the top of the page
Step 2) Click on Update Latin Name for Non-Kuwaities .
A New page will be opened as below

Step 3) Enter your Civil ID and serial no. which is shown on the back
you can update your details , only if you submitted civil id for renwal , if not you will get a message saying that , you can not update your latin name because there is no issuance request for the civil id as below

if you already submitted your civil id for renewal , then follow the below process

Step 8) Wait and wait, this will take a few days as your application needs to be checked manually, once it’s approved you’ll be sent a link on your mobile to make the payment of KD5, after that you’ll just go have to go to South Surra to replace your old ID with the new one.

I have faced the same issue,to resolve your problem go to PACI office along with passport copy and civil id copy.if your visa article number 18( company visa ) if you are related depending visa, you can update online .

Does this apply to those people who are still having the residency on the passport.
In my case, the civil id name and passport name are different but im still having the valid residency sticker on my passport for the next one year.
So would this be a problem when travelling?

According to Govt. Affairs folks at my employer, it should be fine since they’ll just check the residency for people who renewed prior to 10 March. However, seeing as my residency ends in 2021 and seeing how things run in this country, I’m gonna change my name on the ID just in case they decide after a few months that they’ll just apply it to everybody. I don’t wanna be caught with a week to travel and have to do all this or change my travel dates.

Hi! I have just 1 wrong letter in my civil id. In my passport my middle name starts in letter M but they inputed in my civil id was letter H. Do you think it will be a problem if i decide to travel this year? Do i need to fix it and match my civil id to my passport? Thank you.

hi you can change if you go to paci office and visit the front counter , told him to change latin name as according to passport he/she will give you print with written Arabic instructions and you just drop envelope in machine with attachments,

Hi everyone how many days it takes to correct the mistake because my name in civil id does’t match in my passfort and I’m traveling this coming 26 of July

Thank you for the information. Just a follow up query. If there is a name mismatch, does this have to be done prior to renewing residence or post?

Also, I have only 2 names (Given and Surname). No middle name. The ministry had a long time ago enforced adding the father’s name to the end to avoid confusion between people with similar names. Is this to be continued or will they adhere to what’s in the passport?

I have to same issue as Jeff but in a different way. I changed my name on passport in January, after which I went to the Passport Office in Salmiya to get the residency updated as per the new passport last month but they asked me to provide the 3rd name to avoid similar names issue. Hence, they added my Dad’s name and updated my Residency Sticker accordingly. I was about to update my Civil ID and with this new rule, it seems it will be be a hell of a task again. 🙁

I have same issue. I changed my daughter name is Arabic. But after I received a link from PACI for verification which again shows the wrong Arabic name. How can I correct it

Hi there
I did according to whats written above beacuse there was a mistake in my name on the civil id..i uploaded all docs and proceeded.they sent me the ref number too but there wasn’t a page where they asked me to type my correct name?
I selected the non kuwaiti renewal and uploaded pic, civil id and passport copy.
Y is that?how can they change the name without me having to type in the correct name

The Civil ID tends to carry your full name plus the first name of your father (not sure why!) – which is not the case with the passport – the passport only reflects your full name – i.e. first name, second name (if any) and your surname . Do we now have to get PACI to remove the first name of the father from your Civil ID name going forward? Any idea?

Yeah.. i have the same issue and would like to know if its ok. My first name, second name and third name is mentioned in my passport but in my civil id, they added my dad’s last name as my forth name. In the residency sticker its just my first name and last name mentioned.

Have you sort this out? Because I have similar issue my given and surname was right but my middle name they just put the first letter. Is this will affect once I travel?

dear you must change, cause same happened with me , now after long struggle I have done correction.
it is simply go to paci office and present your passport and civil id to counter personal after reaching in long que. he/she will give you computer print and ask you to get envelope and attached passport/civil id copy and submit in machine and finish you may call me if need more info 66888154

Once I get my new civil I’d they didn’t mention my second name full in English first name and last name is correct second name they put first letter only like initial in Arabic full name is there. Is there any problem to travel?

Any idea how to get my residence address on the civil id changed as well or any service that does it? My family and I moved recently and need to get everyone’s address changed.

You’re gonna need to go in and handover the documents manually, most importantly you’re going to need the original copy of your rent contract that states your new address. Keep in mind that it’s very important to update your residential address.

Any idea on what’s the process for correcting the birthyear on my civil id,my real birthday which is written correctly in my passport is Feb.21,1978 but it’s written in my civil Id,Feb.21,1979.

Hi, I would like to ask because my civil id passport number didn’t match in my passport it has 1 number missing. They told me to go jawazat and get this application paper then after that return it back to MOI. But unfortunately i dont have idea where is my jawazat area (in my civil i.d address is mahboula. Does anyone have idea where is the jawazat for this area?
And also is it fine to to travel since i still have my residency sticker in passport and its still valid till june.
Thanks.

Hello, just want to ask cause unfortunately i need to change and update my passport number on my civil id.but the is my visa was expired a week a go do u think they will deny my request on changing my passport number in civil id,cause i meed to change it asap so i can renew my visa.pls help me if u have any idea..thanks in advance..godbless

Any idea of what to do if the name is typed wrong in the Civil ID but you already traveled before the new law was issued and are coming back now?

Dear Readers
i have a question concerning with this new process if any one could shed light on it will be really helpful.
My passport number is BL0234 and on New Civil id they have mentioned BL234 ( eliminated 0) and when i checked with PACI they told me that “0” cannot be added in front of the number and the system deleted it by default.
And i’m afraid if i travel it might be a problem.

yesteday i renewed my sons residence n then to renew the civil id card i tried The Paci eEnvelope site, i was not able to proceed without attaching residence sticker page. which is not existing for recently renewed residence. then I went to the typing center to get the renewal cover had it typed n deposited it in Paci kiosk

Hi My Name is James Mathew in the passport. My CID name is James Mathew Chakkalayil Mathew George. The extra Chakkalayil Mathew George mentioned on my CID is my Dad’s name. Is this ok. will I be having travelling issues ?The law here is very strange, we will suffer for the mistakes the ministry employees or their earlier rules did.

Even for my daughter its the same. She has only 2 names in PP. but in Civil ID its her two names and my full name as in PP

OR

At the time of renewal of residency (which I had to do yesterday), the clerk corrects your name in the MOI system and asks you to verify and sign a printout with the correct name.

This name is then reflected at the time of the renewal of Civil ID – you get a text message with a PACI link within 10 mins with the new details and it asks you for the usual 5 KD payment to process the new Civil ID.

Another thing, I got my residency renewed before 10th March and yes there is a sticker in my Passport. In Civil ID, they have just replaced the middle name with the first letter of the middle name, for eg: if the name in Passport is Michael Farley Steve , then in Civil ID it is just Michael F Steve, but Arabic name will be in full . In the Residency sticker also its the full name as in Passport.

So anyone has any idea about this issue?

Can the mandoob at my job go on my behalf and change my name and job title on my civil id? or do I have to go personally and update my details?

I have already paid PACI 5 KD online for name change in Civil ID after I received their message. But PACI website it says – Civil ID card is still being processed, please try again within one week.

How many days will it take just to print card.

yes they have entered the job title on the back of the card incorrectly for me and i was wondering if the mandoobs can go on my behalf to correct this

Is the correct name to be filled in at Step 5?

I have not yet renewed my residence but will do so tomorrow. Just want to be sure that when renewing the civil ID, I will be able to fill in the correct spelling at Step 5.

Long before the cancellations of the sticker issue due to in country legal issues ; I managed to correct the details in my official documents ; Work Permit, License, Civil Id etc to match exactly with the given names in my passport. The same with my wife and kids.

I too faced the dilemma earlier on of the addition of the fathers name in my Civil ID and the Work Permit (Izan Amel) and now thankfully all official documents reflect the correct names.

My fear is reading all the earlier comments comments above is that there lies the possibility that PACI or MOI may screw up again and put in an Initial instead of a name or because of some system default, a number might not show up bcoz it isnt allowed to in the system. Hence the need to go through the tedious task of redoing stuff all over again.

Right now the only thing missing is the Passport number from the Civil ID and the worst part is that I have a zero (O) as a first number immediately after alphabet so I am wondering whats gonna happen come renewal day..

Did u corrected the passport number which contains Zero. So what’ s the advice from PACI regarding zero in passport number?

My name was correct on all my previous Civil ID’s i.e. according to my passport, on renewal my first and last name are correct however my middle name is not in full just the initial…. a bit concerned as it doesn’t match with the passport. Since there is no residency page feeling a bit apprehensive about my next travel. Any way to sort this?

I got renewed my residency before March 10 and yes I have sticker on my passport. Yesterday I got my new civil id, name and passport number was correct but my birthdate was wrong they make July instead of June. Will there be issues if I travel with wrong birthdate?

I have the same issue. My middle name is not in full and has been replaced by the initial. My old Id had the name in full. Is this the new norm or it has to be corrected ? Can someone advice please ?

Same Issue with my daughter’s CID, her previous ID was perfect FN,MN,LN but the new one they wrote the Middle name initial. She is travelling in 4 days so we shall see if it will affect her travel.

Hello, could you please update if your daughter had any issues at the immigration desk and the travel destination. Thank you.

In mine all 3 names are in full and correct on all my documents. ( Latin as well as Arabic) No Initials . So upon renewal and receiving the new ID card I have to look out for three things ..

1- Correct Passport number.
2- Job Title as recently been informed
3- Initials instead of Names

Fingers crossed they come out correct and I avoid the song and dance I would need to go through to correct them.

Hi I have a issue with my civil I’d…thay add my middle name (my father name)but there is no middle name in my passport .so what is the procedure to change it.thank u

We submitted all documents including copy of passport but still PACI insist on writing our name their way…. so now this new law has been implemented that means a lot of people will be paying 5KDs otherwise will be denied when travelling out of Kuwait… makes sense.

My scenario is a little different. I have residency valid till Nov 2019. But I had to renew my passport because the pages are all utilized. By the time the new rule came, my new passport has no sticker and the old passport is been cancelled and the residency sticker page is also striked out. The issue now is that I’m travelling to France day after for a week and my civil ID wont be renewed by then to reflect the new law. Maybe exiting Kuwait might be fine but returning back to kuwait…Hmmm…. Will surely have to go though drama at the airports.
I’m carrying the new rule and the translation along so if any immigration authority stops me, I can try to explain. Checked with a Typing Center and they mentioned that they have few such cases too who have gone for Umrah…

Fingers crossed….!!!

Any suggestions….???

hello…were you able to exit (leave) Kuwait without any problems (without the new civil ID)?
I have a similar problem – I have a new passport and when I transferred the residency, I was only given a piece of paper. So my new passport is without a sticker. My residency which is still valid for another month (end May) is now in the old/cancelled passport.
I therefore can’t leave Kuwait until I get a new Civil ID. The problem now is, I dont know what are the procedures to get a new Civil ID to replace my current Civil ID which is still valid until end of Ma. When I went to the PACI website to request for a renewal, the reply was they cant renew my Civil ID without rental agreement!!!!

Your post title is not correct. These steps are just to “renew” the CIVIL ID. I don’t see where one can correct their name spelling.

What about people who their residency is already renewed and valid till later (2022-2023) and have different english name compared to passport ?

I am not sure how PACI is going to fix this problem. For example I had corrected all the latin names of my family members long time back and I recently stamped the residence of my wife and this is what they did with it. The name of the person was Jane Doe (not real) and the person’s father’s name is Jack Jones (not real). On the Civil ID they made it Jane D J Jones. Now how in the world is that going to work out when the passenger is trying to get the immigration done from outside Kuwait.

Why do they need to add names that is not mentioned in the passport as the full name! I thought with the new policy this will be fixed but no they still insist on adding names that is not in the passport. Better would have been to do two rows as Full name and fathers name instead of creating this new headache.

This is exactly what has happened with me and even after two attempts of changing the name, it’s still coming printed out like this! Did you do anything about it yet?

Expats with valid residency sticker on passport can travel without amending the civil id information. So don’t need to change anything until the visa is being renewed.

You are gonna have to go back to PACI and do the song and dance all over again .. ( just like I have a feeling that I will be doing down the line)

PACI’s new ways to make some extra cash on the side…

5 KD to fix an error they intentionally do times a couple of hundred thousand expats is a lot of extra green for the agency

When entering/leaving, since my passport is only in Latin letters, not Arabic or other style, will it matter that the Arabic version of my name on my civil ID doesn’t match my Latin name? I mean, should I correct the Arabic version of my name as well (it is only slightly off, and with mispronounciation could be considered in the acceptable range)? Or just not worry about it?

Is there anybody encountered about discrepancy in nationality? I have a daughter who is a dual citizen. When I applied for the. 1st time for her residence we used her Filipino passport, after we got her EU passport her recent residence is already stamped in her EU passport but her civil ID nationality remained Filipino. Is there any issue about this? Hoping to get a useful response from ur side. Thank you.

Hi , i am facing a funny issue as well. Although my name in English was correct in the old civil id, now it is wrong! Found out that all my orevious residency stickers were carrying the wrong name but never noticed! To correct it i need to fill application and submit it to immigration, then the next step to PACE. No time as i need to travel for work! Will take the risk ! After all , my passport no is correct, the old stickers carried the wrong name and no one complained, fingers crossed!!

I’ve been trying to use the link but it keeps saying there is an error and to try again later. Been happening since Wednesday. Any idea what’s happening?

Go to the PACI website (not the eEnvelope website) and check the status of your Civil ID. Most likely a renewal request is already under process which is preventing you from using the eEnvelope website. If that is not the case, then you need to visit your area’s immigration department and get a letter stating your residence details (since there is no sticker on the passport anymore). You then need to go to PACI office with this letter and submit a update/renewal request in person.

Hope this helps.

After following the process for my kid, the e envelope site says that everything is processed and to check on the PACI website. Happily went there, paid the 5kd, and now when I put my kids Civil ID it says: –

We are unable to process your ID card printing request due to a lack of Passport/English Name information. You are kindly requested to either visit PACI website or choose “Card Renewal” service to update current information according to MOI, or personally visit the “Ministry of Interior” and submit your original passport for update.

I had already put all my kids passport details and other requirements in the e envelope site. Now what do they need and any idea what”s the next step??

Thanks all for the help.

My case is something similar. I got my son’s residence renewed couple of days back and i got the SMS saying they have renewed the residence. I went directly to the PACI website and paid the 5 KD for the new civil id. Checked yesterday the status and it tells me to go the MOI with the passport to update the latin name.

What do i do?? just go with the passport or do i have to make a form??and is it the Jawazaat or the PACI office i have to go to??

Hi, this is an update to my earlier query. I am hopeful it will be helpful to all who have to get their process done.

I renewed my wife’s residence today at the Hawalli passport office. In the application form, I put her correct name, English and Arabic. Once the process was over, they give you a printout to confirm the residence was renewed (No sticker in passport). I was happy to see that they corrected it without any fuss or special request. It was just the standard process for renewal. Again, please ensure you type the correct name (as per passport) in the application form in English and Arabic. Please note it does not have to match the old Civil ID. Also, insurance can be paid online in advance.

I will post an update once I receive the CID.

For those of you who do not have to renew your residence, but need to correct your name, you have to get this corrected first at the Passport Office (MOI). Proceed directly to the Computer Section for New Born and take your no. Unfortunately, I ran out of time to complete the same myself, but after being turned around a few times, I was directed to this counter where they verified it was the correct counter. Only after this is done, you can go to PACI

For all queries regarding PACI, you can call up the PACI call center on 1889988. They will advise you correctly. This way, you do not have to stand in an endless queue and get sent back.

A colleague of mine had a unique situation, where his name was correct in the residence page of his passport, but was incorrect only in the CID. For this he went to the PACI office to get only CID corrected. If you are an old timer in Kuwait, they will ask you to get your old (expired) passport also, just to verify that there has been no change in name in the passports.

All the best. And I will try my best to provide any further updates or requests.

Final note: If you have a problem with any details related to your residency, name, incorrect CID no, etc, you have to update this at the Passport office. Address and Photo Changes need to be done at PACI. Also, please do not take your family, dependents or friends to the Passport office. They are very strict on who enters and everyone else has to wait out (This happened to me in the Hawalli Passport Office located in Mishref)

I got my id today in which my name in arabic is correct but in english is wrong could you guide me what shall i do according to new laws a security guy told me to go to jawazat but i dont know wether to believe him or not please help me to go through process as i am already to tired of this

Hi Rosette, may i know the steps how you did to able to fix your passport number issue? In which passport office you went to get the information sheet? Thanks

Hi did u fix your passport number issues in your civil ID that doesn’t match your passport. Pls help MY Company mandoob collect only today my civil ID and I went collect it at work and my passport number not same in my passport

In my new civil ID – my first name & father name put in name place, missing my surname like my
passport. Its a problem?

Hi
Mainly they will check only given name of passport. Missing surname is not an issue. Still you need to change as per passport, it’s simple, Plz do the above step after taking new photo, it will be resolved. 🙂

Dear All,

First of all thanks for this post.
I was renewed my residency on mar 07 2019, I got my civil ID with my middle single letter and spell mistakes in my first name. My company Mandoob visited PACI and MOI to change the name, but couldn’t. Finally, without step away from home, successfully changed the name. I just followed above step, first time they rejected because of the photo is same as previous. Then I took new photo, upload into e-envelope next day they changed and I received message then before the payment checked Latin through e-services if everything is correct then we can pay amount of 5KD but still my name was some mistakes uploaded again front page of my passport in Latin name check link, then waited for one day, then received message accepted, again checked my Latin name through the same link before the payment, everything was fine so I paid 5kd, that’s all.

Wrong civil ID: MohamAd A Shajahan
Corrected name: Mohamed Abuthahir Shajahan

Hi Thahir

You have mentioned that before the payment, you checked the Latin name through E-Services – can you please guide on how one does this?

bro i changed my name in iqama and then in evening i got payment option.. i went through that review latin name i reached step 2 i found my name was correct this time so i left inbetween and logged out without going further into step 3 and 4…was i correct or should have gone further.i now paid 5kd online and waiting for tomorrow …your suggestion

You said Before the payment you have checked and your name is correct. So your card also will be the same. Don’t worry, you will receive correct name.

You said Before the payment you have checked and your name is correct. So your card also will be the same. Don’t worry, you will receive correct name….

What will i do if my birth date is not match on my passport and civil id ..i already make a request but they don’t do anything

hello.
But in this link saying that Non – Kuwaiti renewal to update personal photo. is it only for photo update or can i update my name also.

I’ve been facing issues with this. So I had to get a new passport recently and therefore get the sticker moved from old passport to new passport. However I was informed by our admin team that no more tsickers, you’ll just get a new civil ID.

My old ID was printed as below and worked perfectly well for my travel.
(My First Name) + (My Surname) + (My Father’s First Name) + (My Father’s Surname)

My new civil ID however has printed it like this:
(My First Name) + (initial of my surname) + (Initial of my father’s first name) + (My father’s surname)

This is the most absurd representation I’ve ever seen of my name. My admin team was sweet enough to go and get this corrected at the Jawazat (which I believe is the new procedure) but I got a new civil ID today based on that change and they have still spelt the name the same way 🙁

When I tried the steps that Mark has listed, an error message reads ‘You can not update your latin name, because there is no issuance request for the Civil ID’

Logic dictates that my passport number is noted correctly in the Civil ID and therefore that should be the main identifier for consistency, but then again… :-!

Any advice?

Dear Tubby,
I have exactly the same issue and when i went to Jawazat, there mudeer told me that change is not required as father name is must in there system, if there are only two names in passport also PACI will take the same name what is in the Jawazat system but now Paci system is designed in such a way that it will take abbreviation of the middle names if the over all name is big including your father name.

@Pawan Sharma
Thanks Pawan – that’s a bit more comforting!

The unfortunate thing that isn’t understood is that not everyone has a middle name and this is when the surnames are also taken as middle names (on indian passports) and the father’s full name (on the last page) is also added to the name on the Civil ID. I hope I don’t face any issues in traveling next month although I do believe there is a fine to pay of 35KD if at all there is a mistake and you’d still be allowed to travel – can anyone confirm if this is true?

I have seen many questions here but no replies. Please those who have travelled can you reply if you have your name and surname as per the passport on one line and your father’s name on the second….were u able to travel?
My worry is my father’s name is on the second line of my renewed civil id. The first line is correct with my name and surname as per my passport.
Please those who have renewed civil id and traveled…can you pls reply

@Melanie The first Civil ID that was issued to me and one that I have used for the past three years in Kuwait (naturally including a renewal) had the same i.e. my First Name + Surname on the top line followed by my dad’s First Name + His Surname on the line beneath it. This was perfectly fine and I faced no hassles in traveling in and out of the country. I am not sure if this has changed after the implementation of the new laws but I traveled to Dubai in March this year with that same Civil ID and did not face any issues. Hope this helps.

@Tubby
Thank you for your reply. My concern is for civil ids renewed after the new law has come in which means new civil ids issued after April 2019. I am guessing you have not renewed your civil id post March 2019. Thanks once again

@Melanie
In all probability, if this was the case prior to the rules being changed, I doubt it would have changed – after all the names mentioned on both the lines all appear on your passport (?) It’s not as though there is an extra initial or a missing one which is what the majority of issues are around. Even so, I understand your concern over being sure about this and not taking chances from probable response – I’d be concerned too! 🙂 Probably best to visit the PACI office and check with someone there or I’ve heard there are MOI officials in the airport in a room accessible before the immigration counter – many of whom I know have been advised to check there as well.

I had to renew my civil ID recently because I got a new passport and this meant I can’t get the sticker on it as per the rules. It’s come back with the wrong name twice and I just attempted what this post suggests, yesterday. Fingers crossed that I’m able to get it sorted like some others on this forum have!

@melanie u can travel without any doubt,3rd name will fathers name it will include automatically it’s in their system thank you

Hi I tried what Mark has mentioned above and got this response as below, anybody els gt like this befor?

“Your Transaction has been accepted , and we are trying to update your residence information from MOI , if the same message appeared tomorrow please renew it through PACI main website”

What does the above means plz help

Hang in there Ramanuj – I got the same response too but 1-2 days later, the status will change and you’ll get the link to pay the 5KD on your mobile.

Step 6) Upload the required documents
what documents are need for it?what type of file need it (eg.- png format, jpeg format, pdf format) ?

You need your Passport 1st and 2nd Page, Residency Sticker and photo would blueb ackground. Only .jpg, .jpg and .jpeg files are accepted.

Hi, I recently got my new Civl ID with the middle name missing(English). In arabic the full name is mentioned.
Has anyone travelled with the new Civil ID with their middle name missing.
I will be travelling in 2 weeks, so hoping there will be no issues at the airport.

Thank you.

Hi Gokul, Colleague of mine was detained at Kochi airport in Kerala because his middle name was abbreviated. He missed his flight and had to pay extra to take another flight on the next day (that too through wasta at the Kuwait Airport).

Given you have 2 weeks, its best to change it.

Hi Byj.. just for clarifications, your colleague was detained at Kochi airport but was able to fly the next day through his wasta at Kuwait airport? I’m astonished at the extent of vasta reaching Indian boundaries..! Asking to check if travel from Kuwait was an issue at all..

I seem to be facing a similar issue where my surname has been abbreviated but my father’s last name appears in full.. nothing wrong in the order though..

Contrary to what many people on this forum say, my company mandoup has confirmed that as long as the Arabic name is in place and these is no spelling mistake in your latin name (regardless of what has been abbreviated or not) or the order, all is fine and PACI/MOI aren’t going to entertain any change requests.

My colleague mentioned a wasta at the kuwait airport managed a “Ok to board” through Kuwait Airways here (he was flying Kuwait airways). And no, he didn’t face any issues travelling to India, and said he faced no issues upon landing here either.

Honestly, there doesnt seem to be a uniform response to issues we’re facing on account of spelling errors, jumbled order of names, abbreviations and so on. I know of at-least one person who traveled to Kuwait through Kochi with a spelling mistake and another with an abbreviated middle name, with no issues whatsoever. Given it was the airline counter (Kuwait Airways) and not immigration that made the issue at Kochi, perhaps not everyone will face similar issues for their civil id related concerns.

Thanks for that detailed response Byj – probably the first one to let us know of the after effects while the rest of us have only been pondering on the issue itself.

Certainly helpful and a bit comforting to know that the other two friends didn’t face issues but what does that tell us about the validity (rather the consistency) of our documents? 🙂 I am going to have to keep my fingers tightly crossed every time I am traveling to anywhere now (not just India) hoping that my photo and the same Passport Number on the civil ID are enough to satisfy the airline counter as well as the immigration officials.

Thanks for your response again – really helpful. Do let us know if you hear of other similar cases and I’ll be sure to update my experience when I travel early next month.

I’ve just fixed a spelling mistake in my Civil ID a few days back (my middle name Mathew was spelt Mathhew – 2 h’s), so if you’re someone who has the same issue, this is what you do:

1. Fill out a form for name change. You can get that done at most typing centres and i think the small caravans outside the passport offices.

2. Attachments to the form : Passport (front and back pages) and present Civil ID copies, and i was asked to also (by the typing centre) include the Ithma Thoukiya (company sponsor paper), although they never asked for this or even checked at the passport office. I wasn’t asked for any photos.

3. Show up early at your Jawazzat (passport office). I reached the Mishref Jawazzat on a Tuesday at 7am.

4. On the ground floor, proceed to the hall where you normally submit passports for residency renewals, and take a token from the machine. There was a guy helping with the tokens that day, and the token for name change was labelled ‘New Born’ (tokens started from A1000). There was also a button for ‘Name change’, but those numbers were not being called on that day (think it starts with M).

5. My token number was 117 (thats after reaching at 7am). My number was called at exactly 1:15pm (6+ hours). Maybe carry a powerbank if you’re going to be on your phone like i was.

6. The lady at the counter didn’t really check my form. She opened the passport and verified the spelling against whats in the system, corrected it and gave me a printout. The printout has the revised name and other details like the passport number, validity and so on. And returned my passport. Thats it. Took about 4 mins at the counter.

7. You may or may not receive an SMS saying you can now apply for your civil ID (i didnt).

8. The same evening, i checked the paci site (paci.gov.kw) and entered my civil id number in the ‘Civil ID Status’ section. If you details have changed in the system, you status will say theres a renewal request, and you need to pay the 5KD.

9. As a precautionary step, before you apply for the new Civil ID, head to the eEnvelope section (E-Services / Check Latin Name). Upon entering you Civil ID number and Serial Number, followed by your phone number, you’ll see the Name that appears in the system. This is what will be printed on the card.

10. My card was ready for collection (with the revised spelling) in one day. Collect your card at the Paci office in South Surra.

Although it didn’t appear to be a major issue, I’m travelling shortly and didn’t want to take any chances. My colleague was denied boarding on a Kuwait Airways flight (along with 2 others) from Kochi (Kerala/ India) after his Middle name was abbreviated and then appeard as a last name as well. His civil ID shows: Mohsin J Ibrahim Junaid. His passport shows: Mohsin Junaid Ibrahim. He had to pull strings to take the next day flight.

Hope this was of some help. All the best with your revisions!

Hi Dear Byj,

Your instructions are very clear and it will be very useful for the person who is having this issue. Further more I just want to clarify some issue,

1. Can you please explain me your 4th item again.

2. In your 6th item, you told that they give a print out, at the time if I find any spelling mistake can I inform to them at that moment and can I re correct it?

For some further information can you please send me your mobile number or email ID to me. my number is – 94795418

It is said that “before you apply for the new Civil ID, head to the eEnvelope section (E-Services / Check Latin Name). Upon entering you Civil ID number and Serial Number, followed by your phone number, you’ll see the Name that appears in the system. This is what will be printed on the card”

However, it is not a guarantee, My new civil ID was printed with old name, even though, my name was corrected during residency renewal print out and again before making online payment for Civil ID renewal.

Now I have to pay one more 5 KD, for correcting the mistakes done by some one

how can i follow up for the with them ??? is there any website to follow up??? i have received the tracking number and 5 days have passed but no updates yet…

Posting an update regarding my recent travel.

I was the one with the issue where my dad’s name was reduced to initials and my grandfather’s name appeared on my civil ID instead. Just to let everyone know, I traveled last week in and out of kuwait to India without any issues at all. I’m guessing that as long as your information is correct in the MOI system, the card doesn’t really matter. However wrong spelling mistakes need to be corrected.

Hi any one knows how to cancel e envelope request for latin name change service. I want to cancel the request. If any one knows or experience please share

Hello readers,

I just wanted to ask if we can change the old passport to the new one online? In my case, i got my new philippine passport already but i still have an existing visa which will expire on 26th of June 2020 and i am planning to leave the country by the end of the month? Can i just change the passport number for travel purposes without any cancellation or renewing the visa?

Visit the PACI Head Office office in Mishref and take along the Print out issued by Immigration during residency renewal (this is most important paper, without which no correction in Civil ID will be made). Take passport print out also .If you do not have, please get from immigration before you visit PACI office.
