This isn’t an oil leak

notpolution

The image above has been making its rounds on instagram and whatsapp reportedly showing a large ship leaking oil into the Kuwaiti sea near the KPC building in Shuwaikh. Other than the fact that I think this is an old picture, according to a redditor who works with large ships this isn’t even a leak:

When it gets shallow the props brings the mud off the bottom, then it kid of sits there in a cloud while a tug boat is pushing it off to the side. The pollution regulations are huge when it comes to shipping, if it was a leak the last thing that would be happening is a tug boat spreading the oil with it’s props. [Source]

The guy on REDDIT is confused. Clearly this IS A LEAK. There are confirmed reports of this happening, authicated by major international bodies. Also, what power does this propeller possess to kick off that much sand and mud?!?! Also I have never heard of a BLACK sea bed…
And if the sea bed is BLACK, then it’s from the LEAKED OIL. And NO, not all oil floats to the top, that’s why it sometimes sticks to your feet when you are in the sea…obviously this is not olive oil, it is heavy tar oil….

Yes but it clearly states that it’s happening a lot. Anyways lets hope we are at rock bottom and the only way is up. One must be optimistic, although apparently the world bank has also listed Kuwait as the highest untreated stored waste per capita In the world with 15 huge landfills everywhere around us.

The tankers ship oil to the customers, then they fill their tanks with water.

When they reach the kuwaiti port , they have to empty out their water tanks for some balance and saftey reason.

That water is mixed with oil residue in the tank. ( when they sell 1 million barrels they’re actually selling 999,000 lets say and 1000 barrels are still in the tank and can’t be removed easily)

Some russian enviromentalist working on the russian ship cleaning the gulf once said that the pollution in the gulf was greater before and after the invasion oil spill because of the tankers.
