Kuwait is fairly ‘liveable’

livability

The 2015 Global Liveability Ranking list came out a few days ago and Kuwait came 3rd amongst the most liveable GCC cities right after Dubai and Abu Dhabi. The liveability ranking is based on 30 different factors related to things like safety, healthcare, educational resources, infrastructure and environment. Kuwait scored high in most of the categories but fell through when it came to the Culture & Environment one. Below is Kuwait’s rankings compared to other GCC countries:

75 – Dubai, UAE
79 – Abu Dhabi, UAE
83 – Kuwait City, Kuwait
85 – Doha, Qatar
89 – Muscat, Oman
92 – Bahrain, Bahrain
107 – Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
111 – Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

*a ball of burning garbage rolls by this post and runs into the tangled net of wires that supplies the entire area’s electricity, all the generators turn on at once*

*a car drives by to inspect the fire and because it is a 2 way winding mountain road with no road barriers another car slams into it and they roll off the mountain together*

*police beat the burning ball of garbage with batons and take it to jail at the request of an MP whose house is in the area*

“But at least you have a nightlife” *Spends the entire month’s wages on one night in a club, tells everyone how Lebanon is the Paris of the East*

The biggest issue in Kuwait as far as livability is concerned is traffic. The infrastructure is old and it’s designed for 2 million max, yet we have double that and counting. Also, there is no efficient public transportation system, it’s just random buses and taxis which adds to the problem instead of solving it. The metro is a pipe dream that we just hear about.

I’m not complaining, I’m just calling things as I see them.

I keep hearing that buses make traffic worse. Take a bus carrying 50 people… that’s 10 cars at least, if they carpool. Without it’ll be anywhere from 20-50 cars. I’d rather one bus than 20 cars.

You make a valid point. However, the old infrastructure is not designed for public transportation to mingle with private ones.

In a highly populated metropolis, there would normally be a bus lane reserved just for them. In Kuwait, I detest the moment, like most of you do, when I’m behind a bus. They release obnoxious fumes and they stop almost at random. We really need a public transportation system completely divorced from the streets, like a metro.

+1 to both

Our bus system is bad, but it does help a bit. It can be improved a lot.

Yea something detached from the streets is what we need, unlike most people I would prefer an underground system, if feasible.

How is Riyadh more livable than Jeddah. They’re both shit but Riyadh is the one where we here the worst stories.
