The news segment is on the new speed cameras that have been installed all over Kuwait. I personally found the fact that KTV2 is still alive more interesting. [YouTube]

KTV2 the good ol’days
أيام الطيبين
I don’t know about the technology, but one of those ”high tech” cameras was flashing every single driver on the 6th ring road the other day… I slowed down to 100 km/h and it still flashed me…. WHAT THE F?
they will cancel the fines coming from that cam
Hope they do 🙂 Thanks for the info 🙂
At around 1:20 minutes into the video, the happiness in him when he says around 12,000 tickets haha, oh Ali lol!
And wow yeah KTV-2 has improved a lot, I hardly watch TV anymore these days!
I Was surprised that the ” General ” knew English !
and hamdillah he does ! his English is way better than all the police men i’v met so far.
Is KTV-2 the English news channel for Kuwait? Seriously asking, not being snarky.
Yes. When it was first introduced so long ago it was the bomb. If I recall correctly KTV2 used to start broadcasting at 7pm and close at 1am.
Those were the days, when you less choices t watch you watched more.
KTV2 started broadcasting at 6PM. I’m talking about back in the 80s.
It was the bomb, I agree with that 🙂
Correct. The broadcast would commence with cartoons (with a break in between for the call to prayer). News/The Roving Report (the latter of which had the Bladerunner theme as its intro music) would be right after. Fridays would feature an hour long episode of Knight Rider, the A-Team, Airwolf etc. at 10pm.
KTV2 was awesome back then!
The news commentator and the Lt.Gen are talking about completely different things. He’s referring mainly to the Surveillance cameras and their 1 mile range etc… She’s referring to speed cameras. Speed cameras have nothing new and I dont believe that they can calculate average speed. The small devices they installed in front and behind the old speed cameras are flash lights to enhance the quality of the picture.
you have not seen those cameras then on the 1st ring road and gulf road?
or ever wondered why there’s a camera in front of al-hadi clinic, (along road 30) one just after 4 ring road, and yet another after the #35 junction?
i have not measured it, but i won’t be surprised if it’s 1.6 km inbetween these three cameras 🙂
From what I heard from guys that work in the ministry of interior affairs is that the small cameras are digital video cameras that a private company controls. That said company sifts through footage and then reports violations. They also get a percentage cut from all violations from what I heard from a source at CBK. He said that their bank deals with that company’s accounts.
If all this is true. We are fucked. I already have to deal with people driving 20 km/h under the speed limit the past 3 month since they are afraid that ‘Big Brother’ is watching.
What I want to say here is… Welcome to the almost Police State of Kuwait.
that’s why they are called LIMITS and not TARGET. let’s say for example the sign says 80. that means everybody should drive BELOW 80 and leave the innermost lanes for OVERTAKING at 80.
AFTER overtaking, the driver should go back to the normal lane and drive below 80.
the minimum speed limit is usually posted at the right-hand side 9f the road. so anybody driving between these limits are well within the law.
but what happens is that most of the drivers interpret the speed marks as an objective, and overtake well above it.
THIS!! I feel like the calculating average speed is complete BS just to make drivers slow down…
I find myself going to KTV2 a little more often usually. They have some good content, especially on national and liberation day. They brought on a lot of influential and notable guest, had some good history of Kuwait videos, and aired footage from that year’s events. It was good.
They’ve got some ways to go in terms of quality, but they’re trying to get better and I appreciate it.
All Kuwait TV channels are available as free live streams; simply go to media.gov.kw/TVRadio/TV.aspx
The don’t need cameras, they just need a system of steep punishment. Ex. Pass in the left emergency lane, you’re stopped, strapped to light pole, and flogged 3 lashes. Then you’re sent on your merry way. If your friends or family object, they too get 3 lashes. Also, your driving like the fast and furious, 10 lashes. You kill someone while driving recklessly, you win the mother of all punishments and get a public beheading thats broadcast live on KTV1 and KTV2.
Thats how you get people to behave. Cameras and fines don’t affect the rich one bit or those who have wastas. Applying immediate severe punishments has been shown throughout history to control societies much better than whatever we have now.
I hope you’re not serious.
All “fine” as long as the person is notified about his/her violation and not limited to getting to know upon leaving the country!
it’s your duty to check :-p
1) Wow I never knew Sara Glubb was so HOT!!!
2) Thanks for the heads up on KTV2, I’ve been meaning to check it out for a while- I might have to go out and buy some rabbit ears…
His english is good, way better than Morsi the dude who has PHD from usa xD
so only good English speakers deserve to be PhD’s?
and since he speaks good English, can he be a PhD degree holder now?
Does this mean that all streets now have average speed calculated?
I thought that this was only on 1st ring road
What cartoons do they show on KTV2 now ? It used be very good back then. Now it might just be Barney and freinds or whatever s**T that is unwatchable.
