A friend sent me the picture above of new average speed cameras that are being installed on the King Fahad highway. The cameras are being installed on the highway down south near the chalet areas in two spots, one near where the Fahaheel Expressway meets the King Fahad highway and the other further down near Hardees. I think that’s actually a pretty smart setup since there are currently no speed cameras on that stretch of highway and I’ve seen cars regularly over take me going over 160KM/h.
The way the average speed cameras work is when you pass the first camera it records your license plate number and then when you pass the second camera it calculates the time it took you to get there from the first one. Based on how quickly you got from one camera to another it will calculate your average speed and if it’s over the speed limit you get fined.
Thanks Musaed

Damn, can’t cheat this one than, so I hope more of these strategies.
Next stop might be microchiped license plates?
Add to that, a kind of radar which can see it, its like gps but on ground surveillance.
did anyone in Kuwait got an average speed ticket ?
I got an above average speed ticket once… just slightly better than the usual one
ROFL. HAHAHAHAHAHHA!
LMAO!
The second camera is kept at what distance from first one ?
good news
I saw those yesterday and slowed down. Oi tha bastahds.
These cameras are different than most because they measure your average speed for a longer distance then most cameras. I remember reading about them awhile back.
And yet those with wasta will walk away unchallenged.
First world thinking in the third world….
Doubt they are average, reason being both have flashes thus both take pictures … From a technical point of view you would need them connected and they aren’t and there is no visible connections between them, also it you require a large database to record and save all those plate numbers.
Guessing these are just new cameras that cover all 3 lanes.
My 2 cents 🙂
+1
I agree with Nasser – I have a hard time believing the tech for this is actually functional. And if it really was, it seems like there are tons of other more important traffic issues to think about than to be ticketing wasta-less drivers.
The tech is pretty simple. Take a picture, use OCR technology to decipher the numbers and dump them in the database along with relevant data such as date/time, location, etc.
Software does the rest.
what if you turn off before the next set of cameras?
I’ve tested these cameras a few times and they dont work. Especially if you pass the first camera and switch lanes with other cars around you.
Good!
There are four such cameras. One where the Fahaheel Expressway meets the King Fahad highway, the second near Hardees, the Third near Khairan exit while the Forth 10 Km short of the Nawaiseeb border. They are spaced about 5 to 10 Km apart.
I believe the cameras are not yet operational but since they are over head one can’t really tell.
In between this same stretch, they also have the fixed speed cameras, about four in numbers.
Talk about Overkill.
Guys something similar i came across at the Al – Taawen street (Salwa sea road) It was before the Amir’s house, but the camera was continuously flashing on all cars, i dunno if it was malfunction or was it active, as it flashed on first camera as well as the second one !!
Did any one else experience it ?
Those are not speed cameras, those are security cameras.
