As most of you are aware by now, part of the old souq in Salmiya is being turned into a pedestrian-only area. The project was originally scheduled to be completed in February but due to delays, work is still going on right now.
The photos in this post were taken a couple of days back and they show the current progress. For more photos, click [Here]

Looks great to me, very modern. I wonder if some of the shops will be replaced by the usual Al-Shaya fare.
i like that you use imgur now
I really do hope that they wont use the same ugly aluminum sheets here, though from the looks of it, it seems like they will!
what are the buildings in the middle for?? Is there an underground parking lot?
They’re for coffee shops
I wish we had some before and after pics… I don’t remember the exact details at that angle
But just to make sure… so the two long U roads have now turned to what’s in the picture
Nope just one of the roads turned to the picture
Shouldnt those umbrella lamp posts be upside down or wider atleast?
Where are the trees? It’s going to be hot walking there.
Unless you have stores such as Pavane, Mustache, Wajeh, Mansourein, Al Amal Men’s Fashions, Al Ritaj and the such like return to this area there cannot be a true revival of this now desolate shopping precinct.
but then at the end after all those updates they are doing, the place still has the same shops, restaurants and malls.
still the same inner .. but they are just changing the outside… and what the hell Barayeh Salem !! sound like a grave yard name.
why dont they just start calling some modern names instead of those stuck at the back names.
why doesnt just call it The New Street, Fashion District, The Street .. any shit but not those creepy names :p
