They’re proud to be Kuwaiti

P2BK

Proud to be Kuwaiti is a foundation that was formed to recognize and encourage the youth of Kuwait to depend on themselves and establish their own business by giving their skills and talent a chance to shine. A ton of already established and new local businesses will be coming together in one place on April 30th at the Arraya Ballroom for a large exhibition including 6alabat.com, Q8Flowers.com, Burger Boutique, J’s Bakery, Slider Station, Munch, LoFat, Choowy Goowy, Thouq, Truth or Dare, Extreme Sports, Pink Moon and a lot more.

For more information on the event you can visit the Proud to be Kuwaiti website www.p2bk.com

Update: I was just informed that Burger Boutique, Slider Station and
Falafel & Co., are not participating in this event even though they are listed. It seems the organizers are placing companies without their consent. I also noticed LUSH on the list, I don’t know how that is the case since LUSH is not a local company, its an international franchise.

Dodo… your comment is typical of the defeatist thinking that is paralyzing this country. So what if it’s a copy of “Emarati whatever”?? The whole Emirates is a copy of somewhere else and I don’t see anyone complaining.

Why are they listing companies that have no Kuwaiti background? Questions their credibility to say the least; seems they are just listing the logos to attract eyeballs.

It is a BS website and thee organizer is one of the big companies in Kuwait, If I am not mistaken… small companies don’t even stand a chance at this type of event… they should have taken longer time to have this event!

Greatly appreciating all your comments, this whole idea was supported fully by volunteers and its been organized by the volunteers and not by a big company as mentioned. We are trying to do our best to help support the youth, and would like each and everyone of you to show their support by attending the event. Wishing you all the best. God Bless

As for Burger Boutique, slider station, and Falafel and co.; they were initially the first to join the forum, however, they had to pull out as a result of shortage in time to design their booth as they happen to be changing their whole corporate identity. But rest assured that the owner Basil Al Salim has sent us his original logos to be placed with his consent.

As for names that are internationally recognized such as “lush”, we would be supporting them for one main reason which happens to be that the person starting them fits the criteria of being an entrepreneur.

kudos to your efforts Dhari, you and your team. I have one comment though regarding the “lush” brand …

We clearly need to support the underdog (the small business) as opposed to the conglomerates with their foreign brand names. Your event could have focused on supporting this one guy/gal who came up with a local concept for a cafe house and is struggling to compete with his international counter part (Starbucks).

Your criteria should not only go for Kuwaiti Nationals, but to Kuwaiti-specific brand creations and local business ideas by young Kuwaitis and expats alike that dare to pit their creations against Big business.

I think you misunderstood me, the cafe owner is hypothetical. I wanted him/her to stand for any local & young entrepreneur with a brilliant concept or idea.

Personally, I think any organization trying to assist youth in Kuwait is a great idea; especially if it assists others who want to start their own business here.

There is no small business association to help people through the process (perhaps because larger companies don’t want the competition?).

Like-minded organizations (LOYAC, Jusoor Arabiya, Kuwait Economic Society) should, however, join forces to collaborate/ promote better opportunities for young Kuwaitis; instead of re-inventing the wheel every time someone has a great idea.

I agree to what Desert Girl said.

What is needed is a focused government backed small business association, and not just a financing package as provided by some private run government funds such as Shareeki and the Industrial Bank. It should provide the following:

-Business concept development workshops to direct young entrepreneurs towards lucrative sectors of the economy as well as development of original ideas and not bad copies of others.

-Business Plan assistance.

-Administrative assistance, this keeps the youth focused on the business and not the paperwork.

-Government procedures assistance. This is by far the most needed as it currently hinders most businesses.

-Government backed financing (which is available, but run by unqualified third parties)

These among many other services is what is currently needed and not some elitist youth organizations such YAL etc.

Define small businesses please? is it like The nail bar or the burger hub or Munch or like the two girls in Taw alalail program alwatan tv who makes gift items? plus why dont you have a list of all the Kuwaities which owns there own business regardless if they joint the P2bk or not , so we can support why do they have to pay and participate let the big companies pay and support them 🙂

#11 Marzouq enta el wa7eed ele fahem. your 100% right. small businesses don’t even have a chance. nothing really new here, if u have cash u can open up several projects whichever succeeds keep it, and if it doesn’t.. just sell it or something.. simple.
