A Kuwaiti inventor in WIRED Magazine

One of my goals in life is to one day end up in WIRED Magazine so I’m kinda jealous these guys got in before me. I guess my flavored banak idea isn’t WIRED worthy. Anyway back to the subject. WIRED has a feature in their latest print and online issue on the new Stars of Science Arab reality show. I haven’t watched the show but the article features the final 5 and includes local inventor Mohammed Al-Rifai who created a steam iron robot. You can read the article online on WIRED’s website [Here]

“Al-Rifai rigged up this 6-foot-tall contraption, a steam-ironing robot for the home. There’s pressure on Al-Rifai to succeed: The previous year’s winner, also a Kuwaiti, has already raised nearly $2 million in VC funding and is considered a national hero.”

What? National hero? Who are they talking about? Why can’t we hear about this stuff on Arab Times instead of normal gibberish of car accidents and “rape” attempts.

🙁 Mark, have you found out what banak means in English? I looked the banak post and I’ve done some research into some of the comments made there but nothing has come up. I would LOVE garlic flavored banak so your idea is pretty good. But I doubt it would benefit humanity 😛

Did you guys read the article ? Alrifai is a son of a martyr during the iraqi invasion his father was an imam the was shot by iraqi soldiers and dumped near his mosque. Mohammad’s mother was 5 months pregnant with him.
