Dubai’s Garbage Bins

Compared to our flashy yellow plastic ones I think theirs look a lot nicer.

Just a couple of years back they were using oil drums for garbage bins. I’ll be grateful for what we have at the moment. It doesn’t really matter how they look like, what matters is how people use them.

what ???? i’ve been working in Dubai for 10 years now …. where the hell did u see oil drums used as garbage bins ???????
maybe u ve seen it in hassawy not Dubai!!!

You mean what matters is that most people should use them, right?

And it does matter how they look, they do contribute on how your city looks, and if you don’t care how your city looks, there’s a problem there. Where I live, there are lots of Greenery like trees and grass, so the bins that they place are kind of greyish/greenish in color to blend in with the environment.

BTW, I was at Al-Sabah hospital a few days ago, and they’ve also installed new blue waste bins similar to the yellow ones. They were a little further apart though and they didn’t look bad at all. Maybe the blue color was a little more subtle?

You are not getting the point :p

The government want’s the garbage bins to scream “I am here”, hoping people will notice it and start using them.

How come it is so difficult for this government to pick up the trash? Then they hire all these Bengladesh men to pick up the trash, which doesn’t seem to be working. I don’t see Bengladesh men all over Dubai picking up the trash and I also understand that they have litter laws. Since they just passed a huge budget yesterday, possibly the upkeep of the country is in the plans, but I suspect that they don’t understand how to keep the country clean and landscape the country, They need to bring in outside landscapers to landscape the entire country, at least that is what Sheikh Mohammed did, don’t they want their country to look nice? One wonders??

Sometimes I just want to storm the Parliament armed with a powerpoint presentation with pictures of Dubai and say see this is what your country should look like in the event they forgot what a country should look like. Even outside the palace there are uprooted palm trees and shabby landscaping with garbage all over the streets. Is questionable what the priorities of this government are but they need to look to Dubai, the template for the Middle-east for the solutions to their problems here. You should see how advanced the ministries are like getting a driver’s license or an iqama stamp is so organized and professional. Wake up Kuwait and demand the government pick up the trash, it is a disgrace.

I think there needs to be a Ministry of Sanitation and they are solely incharge of the picking up the trash, installing proper garbage bins and running the cleaning workers that seem to be all over the country picking up the trash which seem to be worthless. I once saw a cleaning worker dusting a road sign in the middle of the desert. Please explain to me the benefit of this? Or sweeping the streets in a country like this overrun with dust. This ministry would also run street cleaning trucks all over the nation.

Speaking of the yellow bins, a few have fallen a few days ago, they then placed them back the next day. Convenient.

Come on is it all over Dubai ? am sure it belongs to a Sidewalk on a Specific Area or a Mall :1

Same Idea is already Implemented Here But Nobody Notices, Take Souq Sharq as an Example :1

@boss Please don’t defend your incompetent authorities in charge of the cleaniness of this nation -this entire country looks like an ill-managed garbage dump. You will be compared to other GCC countries when outsiders view your nation. In addition I would have not only Mrs. Mohammed’s suggestion of a Recycling Department in the Ministry of Sanitation, but I would also have an huge modern Environmental Division that would deal with the overwhelming pollution problems in the nation, mainly caused by lack of enforcement by this government. If other ministries are handling this now, I would fire them and move it to this ministry. All ministries should be monitored like in Dubai and improvements made to organize them. They need to do a fact-finding tour of Dubai ministries to see how it is done.

Kuwait needs to bring in qualified EXTERNAL QUALIFIED companies to jumpstart the development process which they just voted billions yesterday to improve the status of this nation. From landscaping to environmental issues, all the present companies in this country have failed. Especially when it comes to road development. These people have done more to hinder businesses, gridlock the nation, and promote the accident levels than other incompetent authority. Let’s take the Avenues Mall. The entrance is at the bottom of a freeway offramp with a two lane driveway with no exit to join the main road to able drivers to easily embark on the 5th Ring. They have done a huge disservice to this mall.Take the 360 Mall. Miss the sign on the 6th Ring, Oh Well, you miss this mall entrance. There are a multitude of examples all over the country. The garbage all over the country is another example of authoritative failure. A manager at a local hospital told me that they had to bring in visiting western doctors with blackened windows in the car so they wouldn’t see all the trash, but when they did, of course, see the trash, they were flabergasted how an oil-rich nation could be so neglected by their government – it is their responsiblity. Maybe they need to grill the MP in charge of this matter in October and the person in charge of the airport. New topic!

Government has nothing to do with people throwing trash in streets and everywhere!!

it’s the mentality of people.. and that’s mostly blamed on expats unfortunately. I am including all arab and asian expats which at the end they speak for their country.. I have never seen a beautiful clean “country” in the middle east, india, pakistan..etc I’m not including American’s and most European countries because the majority care about the environment and their country.. but for us arabs? hell no ..

This disease is spreading to Kuwaitis as well. Kuwait was such a beautiful country before 1990.. before the 3+ million foreigners

Truth hurts, I know. Take Murgab & Farwaniya for example.. or, let’s not go too far! Take the Gulf road or the beach on the weekend! Many people leave their shit there after they finish BBQ and blaming that on the government is just stupid.. They can take their shit with them the same way they came with it.. saying that government doesn’t provide “cool” garbage bins or enough is not acceptable

Same argument goes to people saying Kuwaitis suck at driving.. well, guess why? Yes, I think you guessed right.
Everyone better speak for their country than offending Kuwait and the government

There is a deep rooted psychological state that is in this nation and this apathy that is viewed in the trash all over the country is a direct link to the government. These expats litter because they really don’t care about this country and are they wrong, yes, but it is the governments responsibility to enforce litter laws. They have litter laws in Kuwait and many of these expats come from filthy countries, overladden with trash, so until you enforce respect for your nation, they won’t respect it. And if the people see that the government doesn’t care about the country by not developing the nation they won’t respect it also. Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai mentors his nation and he commands the utmost respect from expats and his nationals. He has raised the bar in the GCC, leaders must now mentor their people beyond the traditional welfare state benefits. You should be sending teams of government officials to find out where they buy equipment used in ministries, the tarmak that they use on their roads, the cameras that they use on their highways, who built their airport, bridges, and analyze their customs, CID and police faciities. There is alot to learn there and you need help.

I agree with what you said. However, if the government and Kuwaiti’s took matters a little more seriously and stopped dumping their waste everywhere I’m pretty sure foreigners and expats would soon follow. Unfortunately though, kuwaiti’s are now a minority, so even if every Kuwaiti started to throw trash in the proper location and government implemented a better waste management system, I don’t think expats would do the same. Especially in areas like Jileeb, Farwaniya and Hawally where the overwhelming majority is foreign.

1. People here are forgetting one thing is that DUBAI too has expats and that too from all the Asian countries….. so why is that Dubai is clean think…

2. In areas like Jileeb, Farwaniya etc, the Kuwait doesn’t care about these areas, as it is been occupied by expats.. drainages in these areas are of pre Invasion era, still nobody cares and each day a old 2 stories building is demolished and a new 10 – 15 storie building plan is been approved by the muncipality, once the buidling is completed people occupy the flats as the rent is a bit cheaper and due to such growth of population in these areas the drainage starts to overflow in the roads…. in these conditions do you expect the EXPATS TO THROW THE GARBAGE IN GARBAGE BINS ???? by crossing the RIVER (drainage overflow)

Today in jeleeb all the old 2 – 3 storey buildings is been demolished and new 10-15 storey buildings is been built….. are we Expats responsible ??? as the drainage’s overflow, cars parked on the road, as nobody cares for parking facilities in these areas…. everyone just needs the RENTS

Dubai is a relatively small emirate in the UAE. Go out a little further to certain places in the UAE that compare to Kuwait’s Farwaniya, Jleeb and Hawally and you’ll see the same exact situation. Crappy roads, trash everywhere, etc etc etc. You cannot compare areas like Jleeb with Dubai.

Nobody is comparing Jeleeb or Farwaniya to Dubai, My response was to your comment, “I don’t think expats would do the same”…

my question was how should expats do the same, when the whole roads is turned into garbage bin due to the overflowing drainages, as nobody cares as the area is full of expat community..

why would an expat won’t follow if the country has some rules ?

Kuwait brings thousands of low level workers to collect the trash that should not be there in the first place . Instead they can bring only hundreds of higher quality individuals to actually act as enforcment officers of the law & collect fines , while continously educating the public.
Most trash is thrown out of cars ( as walking is not common ) , simply it should be collected in a small bag & dumped in the garbage can next to the house

We are looking at the problem in a point at the wrong angle, We should solve it from it’s root.
We don’t need to clean if there is no trash.

If we have a good law in forced, that anyone who letters will be fined a big fine that would make them not dare to throw anything again we wont see all that trash.

And I think that this fine should increase exponentially every time the offender repeats it.
3 times and you will see everyone picking the trash on their own.

i live in australia and its such a shame how we disrespect our country if only we had the same mentality and trust me australia isnt so advanced we can be so much better but a kuwaiti brain is a kuwaiti brain we have to live with it keep it clean people
