Flights to North Korea

The North Korean airline, Air Koryo now flies in and out of Kuwait once a week. Supposedly this new route was opened to cater to the increase of North Korean workers coming to Kuwait which makes sense since North Korea isn’t really a blossoming touristic destination. What’s also interesting is this route is the first nonstop link between North Korea and Middle East. Make sure you visit the Air Kroyo website since it’s as outdated as their plane above. [Link]

i wonder how much it costs to go there… and do kuwaitis need visas to go there??
i would love to go to there despite their “UN-displeasing” political views… but countries like New Zealand, Japan, South Korea & DPRK have such a beautiful countryside which resemble footage you see in David Attenborough documentaries… it’ll be incredible to be able to see that in real life -.-

to go to North Korea you need to get special permission from the government, and every year they only allow a handful of tourists in, and they’re only given government led tours which means you only get to see what the government wants you to see, and you will have an escort from the government with you 24/7 to keep an eye on everything you do and say, i dont see why anyone would want to go there ! i’d be too paranoid about doing something that might upset the Kim Jong-il lol!

I would be scared to fly their plane. I am surprised their planes make it to Zurich, or anywhere in Europe from N Korea. I wonder what their business class is like? Sponge on seats, unlike plastic seats in economy class?

Going there is quite difficult I think. Getting a tourist visa must be like hell. But if you do manage to go there, your mobiles/blackberries/iphones will be confiscated. If you want a cellular phone it costs $300 or so. It’s a very secretive state. If you’re taking photos and there’s an image of King Jong-Il, his full body must appear in the photo. There’s a lot of weird regulations regarding traveling to Pyongyang. I heard these from former tourists to NK.

*Kim Jong-Il. 😀
Oh well, he is like a king anyway. Did you know he imports cognac worth $200,000 a year?

North Korea is BEST KOREA!
Everyone should go there! The weather is amazing and there’s a lot to do there!!

oh man the website, priceless!

Air Koryo flies to a variety of interesting destinations from Pyongyang

haha i love how they spruce it up by saying interesting destinations, now im hooked…

I thought this was funny:

“Air Koryo has a very clever and highly trained staff for the long journey from Kuwait to Pyong Yang The fleet of Air Koryo includes new aircraft models (some of them 2008 model)”

Do the workers stay in Kuwait after they arrive and refuse to go back, or wait, scratch that, do the pilots and flight attendants seek political asylum when they arrive? We all know what happened to some of the N. Korean football players during the last world cup. 🙂

That plane in the picture above was put to storage a long time ago. Air Koryo now operates a modern fleet of Tupolev 204s.

It’s funny how they even have an international airline. From what I’ve read, they don’t allow non-nationals inside North Korea and they discourage their own countrymen from travelling abroad, thereby making it the “most isolated country” in the world. Read this on Wikipedia, I think. And saw it on Nat Geo too… Whenever the US Army has to announce something to North Korea, they go to the South Korea border and shout on a large speaker-sort-of-a-thing. So, the very idea of having an international airline seems redundant to me.

you guys have to check out air koryo’s safety video on youtube! the intro “Welcome to Air Koryo’s airplane of Juche oriented Korea vigorously advancing towards the Socialist powerful nation by the Songun politics of the Great Leader Kim Jong Il.”

I am planning a ski tour of the Axis of Evil. So far I have done Dizin ski resort in Iran, got back a week ago. I wonder if I can make a flight on this plane a part of the trip to North Korea.
