House of Mirrors

Lidia al-Qattan explaining the Big Bang Room

I’ve being thinking about this post for the past few days trying to figure out what I was going to write exactly. The place turned out to be such a cool and surreal experience that I just couldn’t figure out where to start or how to say what I wanted to say. In the end I decided that I’ll be brief and not go into details so that you go there with no expectations other than having a good time.

Last week a friend asked me if I wanted to join them on a tour of the House of Mirrors and since I had never been I decided to join them. The House of Mirrors belongs to Lidia al-Qattan, the widow of Khalifa al-Qattan, a renowned Kuwaiti artist. She started decorating one small wall with mirrors and through time more and more walls were decorated until the whole house inside and out was covered with mirrors.

As I said, I’m not going to go into details because I don’t want to ruin the experience for you but simply put Lidia is such an amazing person. We were expecting the tour of the house to take around 30 minutes but it took us 3 hours and the 3 hours literally flew by. She was such an incredible host full of stories and the whole experience was seriously pretty trippy.

If you’ve never been to the House of Mirrors you should and when you do make sure you go with a bunch of friends since its an experience that should be shared. The cost of the tour is KD2 per person on weekdays and KD3 on weekends. The location of the house Street 94 Qadisiya, House 17 Block 9. You need to call ahead and make an appointed on this number 22518522.

Marky mark….a little off topic, but do you know what quinoa is? .Its this superfood which is supposed to be rich in protien and nutrients. Most UFC fighters eat it including diaz and carlos condit. Pls let me knw wer to get it

Al-Ra7a Stone Mill in Qadsiya. It’s not really a super food, most UFC fighters know jack shit about nutrition. It’s valuable for vegan athletes like Nick Diaz because it’s a complete protein and they can’t have animal protein. A piece of grass-fed steak is far more nutritious. But enjoy.

You can get it at TSC (Sultan Center) and any coop that carries Natureland products. Just restocked my own supply today. And it is indeed considered a kind of “superfood” in that it is packed with protein, magnesium, calcium, lots of folate or folic acid and is a very low glycemic whole grain, good carb food. I would stay away from the red meat someone recommended and go for plant based protein, of which there is in abundance in quinoa.

Arealthanku, i was hopin some1 wud say something like this as opposed to a hard to find mill. Also marky mark looks like the bink banther with clothes in the pic above

He’s 30 something. A man’s in his physical prime in his 30s. Only in Kuwait and neighboring countries are men expected to wrap things up and let themselves go beyond the 20s.

I’ve been meaning to go there for years but never got the chance. Did you take any of your muffins or pies to her coz I heard she appreciates it when guests bring some homemade stuff 🙂

Its quite ironic that a post about a house full of mirrors turned into a discussion about a persons physical appearance.

if you didnt post a pic I thought you’d be a short stocky guy with a french beard and a belly, wearing a UEFA jersey and aviator glasses, with GAP cargo shorts and colorful sneakers and you’d be found at every trendy burger restaurant in town 🙂 And you’d have very hairy legs and hands.

The house is amazing and so much fun to see up close. Lidia Al-Qattan always has been and always will be one ferociously rocking lady. I’m lucky enough to say I know her.

OMG!I was surprised to see this post.I mean i’ve been going to the same block for my tuitions back than, but i never took it so serious i thought it might be a kuwaiti’s house and he/she just wanted to decorate it with mirrors. But i just came to know the real story now lol i can’t believe the area i’ve been living since 9-10 years has this beautiful thing.I still remember i saw some americans coming out of the house when it was being decorated by mirrors. It was a pretty cool thing for me. 🙂
