Organized Chaos

There is a parking lot I pass through every so often where all the cars park behind each other so no car can leave with a bunch of cars having to be moved first. What I found interesting is the unspoken understanding among those drivers. Even though everyone parks on closes on everyone else they all leave their phone numbers on top of the dash board. Some are scribbled on paper, other are typed out nicely and maybe even laminated while others are made into stickers and stuck on the front windshield. This parking lot which could only hold a certain number of cars comfortably can now hold a lot more and best of all it’s community driven.

What’s more startling is the guy who comes in to work last, probably spends most of his day going up and down shuffling his car around.

So then this is a novel way of getting people to work on time and punishing the late-comers.

We do this at work and it usually punishes the early comers because when you need to move your car you need to wait 10 minutes for the guy to come first

I hate this building because of the badly planned car park situation. When ever I have a visit to a client in this building I plan half hour for parking only. Just another day in kuwait.

I have to do that sometimes, but I have my number typed on an A3 in big bold frutiger font with a big “I’m Sorry :)” above it..

I wrote it on an A3 because one guy called the police on me the other day because he couldn’t read my number from the business card :S :S

I was going to comment about having a bunch of peoples personal numbers up on a public website, but looks like you’ve taken care of that already.

Amused by this, but also annoyed to think there isn’t a proper parking area for these people. Is this only in a specific area or common across Kuwait?

Think this would make a great photo series.

take those filthy, unreliable, jump-in-front-of-them-or-they-wont-stop-for-you buses -> problem solved.

fixed schedule buses are a distant dream here.

Ive never seen such a thing in Kuwait!!! i guess i never came across it. its stupid i think.

Even Thailand have a better system by leaving their can on neutral so that the person can push the car out and get his car out and push the other car back in

It happens in many places across Kuwait. My office is located in a 24 story building (Think Cafe building) that has no private parking area. We are forced to do the same thing – display our tel nos….a few other commercial buildings nearby also do not have their own parking space, it’s chaotic.

Why do they give licence to construct such building’s without parking?

I’ve always left such notes – it’s manners really 😛 hehe but you’ve helped me with the arabic! THANKS!!! :))))

Well, its not at just one or two places. This happens at many places in Kuwait.
I (and my colleagues) have stick our number on front windshield. And so do many people. This saves people from getting angry as they might not know whose car has been parked behind theirs, and that they might have to wait till office hours get over till someone moves their car for you to go out.
If you want to get another demo, try to go behind BMW showroom in Shuwaikh (during working hours).
